  1. Actually, I've found Square 1's pricing to be much better...20% off on my new Curv H/C vs. 10% at Chuting Star...other containers at better prices too... Also, if anyone's looking for a Cypres, check out SSK.
  2. Not this manufacturer. This is maddness. Try this on for size. You are on a big way everybody has a CYPRES and each person has set their own altitude. Some could be as high as 1500 feet. The unit raises the firing altitude 100 feet for each advance, up to 1500 feet. I don't want to be there. I predicted this was going to happen. We did a poll about a year ago. The response was in favor of the rig manufacturers fixing their problem. They don't know how. This won't solve the problem. It will delay root cause definition for a few more years as the manufacturers who make rigs which will not deploy in 300 feet continue to sell defective products. If the pilot chute won't pull the bag out more altitude will not help. John - How about doing a seminar at the upcoming PIA Symposium on the trend of tiny, tight containers and reserve extraction problems? I enjoyed your discussion at the Skydive Expo in April.
  3. Looking to visit South Africa sometime between Mar-May for a couple of weeks. Any suggestions for places to jump? thanks..chris
  4. Who's going to the Irish Boogie later this month? http://www.skydive.ie/boogie2009.html I'll be there.
  5. You may be referring to me...I jump at MH...I'm a network engineer... :o)
  6. I wintered at Pole in 2005. Did the 300 Club several times, from the old sauna in the Dome, which was better than the one in the new station. We hit a low of around -108F. I go down south every austral summer. My picture is in the Mar 2009 issue of Parachutist, the "Around the World section". Fun times! :o)
  7. Do the real thing. Being in a tunnel is like being in a boat and saying you're swimming... :o) Mile Hi in Longmont is your best choice. They have a Twin Otter, King Air and C-206. The other place you're thinking about may be Brush. They closed a few years ago. Suggest staying with the 150 until you're comfortable with the field elevation here. Just be conservative and I'm sure you'll do fine. Have fun!
  8. Trying to decide between the Northwest Boogie 8/1-4 or the Westcoast Skyflyerz Last Dayz of Summer Boogie 8/29-9/1. Any opinions out there of one vs. the other? Both sound great. What about weather considerations?
  9. Has Michigan been affected much by the bad weather in the Midwest? Heard things could get bad in the Chicago area soon. Just wondering, before I make travel plans.......
  10. Yeah, keep laughing, I paid $17 a slot there 2 years ago. It was $22 when I was there over Memorial Day weekend. Delmarva was $25 and Cross Keys $24. So what. Save money elsewhere. Buy less cups of Starbuck's or cancel cable TV. Ala the new Harley mantra - "Screw it, let's skydive!"
  11. When did it go up? It was $25 in early May.
  12. I'm trying to decide between the Easter and Go Vertical boogies in 2008. Any comments are welcome.
  13. Does the tie-dye shirt say "Couch Freaks"? Sky Kat sold those. Not sure who made 'em.
  14. Great boogie, as always. Though, the Sat nite best dressed contest was pretty tame. What happened to "skin to win" and "show us your ..." (substitute for male or female)?? Even the "tits=altitude" sign was missing at the loading area. Though, plenty of women did take one for the team. Thank you for the altitude! I didn't see any tie-dye t-shirts for sale. I used to get one each year. Maybe since Sky Kat left, they aren't doing them anymore. Oh, and bring back the Army shower tent. The sink area by the shower van didn't cut it. No lighting.
  15. Either that or a couple of Cypres fires. That never happens there.....
  16. Yeah, and what's the *real* forecast for the boogie looking like? Not sure I trust weather.com.
  17. Hmm, I hadn't heard about this. Was it word-of-mouth? I'd be interested in the upcoming event. When?
  18. I humbly thank everyone for enlightening me. Guess I heard things one-sided. But, it was from numerous people. Again, I understand there are substantial costs to putting something like this on. However, the higher jump prices seemed odd, since I haven't seen that with other boogies. But, I guess every event's cost structure is different. I had a great time there, anyway. The AN-2 was especially a lot of fun.
  19. Cool! Looks like a great place, with a lot of skydiving history. Not having a DZO charging $3 over their regular price for jumps, i.e. $23 vs. their normal $20 will be nice, too. Claim I heard was for the aircraft ferry fee, etc. C'mon only one plane was ferried any great distance - SDAZ's Skyvan, and it may have been on the way to/from someplace else anyway. The others were in-state. Doesn't the boogie fee typically go towards to ferry fees anyway? This just makes me laugh. Wait and see what the jump tickets cost when they are trying to cover ferry fees for every aircraft, use of land/runway, any facilites that need to be paid for, etc. Seems to me, $23 is pretty near the industry average right now. And there were significant expenses to support skyfest, not just ferry fees. And you're complaining about paying industry average?? My guess is you'll be paying more than that at Skyfest next year. BTW, what do you think it costs to ferry 1 Skyvan from Arizona to Texas? My guess is you don't have any clue. How about an otter from Dallas? What about portable facilities rental costs? What about increased staff wages to prepare for and during the event? Before you trash a DZO for charging you the industry average, I suggest you actually know what you're talking about. I'm certainly ok with helping to cover costs. Yes, $23 is around the going rate. What seems a bit unreasonable is for a DZ to raise jump prices like this for a boogie. However, if the money is going to a good cause, that's a different story. Guess I'm just comparing things to other large boogies, where the jump price isn't raised just for the event. If fact, it's sometimes lower. You pay a separate fee to cover associated expenses, which I'm fine with. Based on conversations with several people at SkyFest it sounds like the increasing costs at the incumbent venue is part of the reason the event is being moved. I look forward to a new venue.

  21. How much are jump tickets for the regular aircraft? How about the specialty aircraft? Same prices for cash or CC?
  22. On the south island, Skydive Abel Tasman is probably your best bet for a place that is accommodating to fun jumpers and has a dependable schedule. It's west of Nelson, in Motueka. I was there back in Jan. http://www.skydive.co.nz/ The Nzone places on the north and south island will do everything they can to discourage you from jumping there, but will charge you mucho $$$ if you really want to. Glenorchy and a place near Franz Josef & Fox glaciers are other places to check out on the south island. Oh, Dunedin too. North island - Auckland area.
  23. Hint, land waaaaaay down past the far end of the runway, and you'll be in NH..........
