  1. What's the deadline for pre-registration? I was there in 2017 and had a great time!
  2. Because his view was he was certifying the rig is airworthy for 120 days. He took the conservative approach on things, which I can't fault. No need to debate this. As well, from my view, there's no guarantee a person is going to come back for the AAD maintenance. See above on conservative approach. No need to debate this. It's just a lot easier to not make deviations for sake of jumper convenience. Marking the data card with a special notation that the AAD is out of date prior to the repack cycle means little. Is a DZ going to notice that? Which date are they going to put on the waiver, the pack date, the date the AAD expires or both? DZ jumper mgmt software calculates rig service time based on repack date. It could make things confusing. Simpler to just do things one way. Rig comes in for repack. Will the AAD expire within the repack cycle? If yes, then AAD is serviced accordingly. Upon completion of service, repack rig and give back to customer. Easy peasy. I would allow for one deviation, though. If the AAD service will take an inordinate amount of time, etc, offer the option to repack the rig without it, then install it when it comes back. If you do everything you can to put yourself beyond reproach, even if you would <technically> be in the clear, then you can sleep easier, not just because of fear of lawsuits. As well, you earn the respect of others that you do things by the book, like my rigger did of me. “I will be sure – always.” http://www.fortcampbellcourier.com/news/article_ca747ab4-665b-11e2-989c-0019bb2963f4.html
  3. You're putting yourself at risk... I recall asking my rigger about this before I became a rigger, and he said he wouldn't pack a rig if the battery or unit was going to go out of date (4-yr check) during a repack cycle, at that time 120 days. I wouldn't either. It's not worth it. You can try and justify it to yourself all day long. It makes no difference. All it will take is for an incident to happen, an attorney to do some digging and a sympathetic jury to convict...
  4. Any update on this? I have another free ad that just expired, but I can't renew it without paying...?
  5. I agree...I've witnessed and heard about hard landings and one that blew up on deployment. There was a service bulletin in the 2000ish timeframe concerning bar tack failures. There was also a lawsuit with another incident. I had two MR150s many years ago. Glad I never had to use them. I replaced them with PD-143Rs. Don't go cheap on your last chance. Get a PDR or Optimum...you'll be ecstatic if you have to use it...
  6. I just found the same thing and asked the same question...
  7. Ok...so I went to renew it, and see the following...we have to pay for ads now...?? Renewal: 30 days more Renewal price: $6.00
  8. According to what shows up on my ad, it will expire on the 19th. How do I renew it? My Renewals still shows nothing. Time Left 6 days and 6 hours - February 19, 2019
  9. +1 on the WinX-170...that's what I jump and I love it!
  10. How do you renew an ad now? I looked all around on my ad page, but didn't find anything. This link is broken: To renew your ad, go to http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/modify.cgi I also went under 'My Renewals', but it says "There's nothing here yet." I received an email that an ad will expire soon, which is also shown on the ad.
  11. Here's the event schedule: http://piasymposium.com/Schedule of Events.pdf
  12. Very informative and very handy! I downloaded it yesterday. Glad to see PIA is keeping up with technology. http://piasymposium.com/Hello Crowd.pdf The seminar schedule is on the website now. I like to print it out and mark it up ahead of time so I can plan my week. http://piasymposium.com/Speaker Schedule.pdf
  13. While on the topic of MiniDV tapes...I Firewired all mine to my PC a while back, and don't have a need for the camera any longer. If anyone has tapes lying around but nothing to play them on, I'm looking to sell the camera. It's a Sony PC1. Great condition. All the original accessories included, plus a bunch of batteries and tapes. PM me if interested. I also still have a Hawkeye camera helmet with a side-mount box, listed in the classifieds.
  14. I bought one of these a few weeks ago and have been digitizing all my old VHS tapes...works great...creates .mp4 video... https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/625264-REG/Elgato_Systems_10020840_Video_Capture_USB_Analog.html Now I have Couch Freaks 2001, WFFC 1998, among others, on my iPhone...those were the days... ;o) If you want different formats, use AVC to choose from a plethora of options: https://www.any-video-converter.com/
  15. Suggest checking the website daily. Usually by the end of the week prior they have a PDF doc of the seminar schedule posted. Looking forward to it. I'll be there for the week. Who else from here is heading down??
  16. LOL...I just spewed water all over my screen...
  17. Skydive Balaton in Siofok, Hungary. Mi-8 helos!! Fly out over the lake. Fun times!
  18. It's a Lenovo T520 laptop, 64-bit, 8 GB, Win7 Pro, IE 11. I also frequently see something like 'googleads.doubleclick.net' in the status bar at the bottom when things are stuck. I can't scroll up/down the page or navigate within the window. I often have to force close it via Task Mgr. I've been trying Firefox 64.0 the last couple of days and it doesn't seem to exhibit the problems.
  19. I also get this msg often: 'dropzone.com is not responding due to a long-running script.'
  20. I frequently have problems navigating the site because there's so many ads on each page and my browser seems to get wedged. How about reducing the ad count and frequency of updates, or something. At times I find it almost unusable.
  21. Nothing, but some DZ's may require a "C" for certain jumps. I knew one DZ that required a "C" for balloon jumps and another that required it for beach jumps (The only reason I got a "C", I skipped A and B). Jumping at Moab, for example, requires a B, C or even a D license for some of the off-site jumps...for reasons other than formation jump numbers...namely, the expectation that you can land in a tight/rough area in potentially sketchy wind conditions...oh, and without killing others on the load or non-jumpers on the ground...
  22. Old-school is cool! Gimme WinXP and the original look of iOS. I still have 4.x on a iPhone 3GS, just because. I also have a laptop with XP. Albums, cassettes and 8-tracks are cool too, along with Betamax! And CDs! New isn't always better. Mostly it's just marketing to convince people to spend their money chasing the latest and greatest...
