I'm not a TI so i could be talking out of my ass here but surely since there are different tandem systems and ratings: sigma, strong, etc it would be largely manufacturer dependent? In other words the emergency procedures manual would be different across various brands and thus no such thing as a "one size fits all" handbook? Here is the link to the Sigma manual, maybe that helps? http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=71&Itemid=66 And here is the link to the Strong owners manual: http://www.strongparachutes.com/pages/tandem_main.php Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

DOH! Oh you're good :) The surprising thing is, instructors have beers rules too! Call a mask "googles" and that's a beer Call fins "flippers" and that's a beer Leave your cylinder standing up un-attended and that's a case, i was laughing the whole time Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

I made my first ws jump at Perris in 2004 with VectorBoy, did a couple there and went on to jump more at WFFC with Chuckie and the crew. Came back to SA, bought a suit and made some more, only to start getting in CP then sold it and haven't jumped one since. I've been getting the urge to lately but would have to borrow gear as i don't own a canopy suitable for it. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

Hey Kristen, Welcome to DZ.com! Unfortunately i live in South Africa so i can't speak to exact prices in the USA but here is Skydive Elsinore's Price List so you get some idea of what an A license will cost you in the long run: http://www.skydiveelsinore.com/Tandem-Skydive/Package-prices.html I'm pretty sure that other DZ's will be in the same region, your best bet is to call them up and ask, or better yet swing by and chat to some people at the school, you'll find the staff at DZ's very accomodating and more than happy to answer any questions you might have. As far as being comfortable in the sky, it varies for different people, a girlfriend of mine refused on 3 levels of her AFF course and rode the aircraft down in tears all 3 times yet went on to make hundreds of jumps and become a competent BASE jumper. Just remember that what you are doing is not a natural thing for a human being to do and there is no shame in being scared and letting your instructors know that. It is one of the most rewarding sports in the world though. Hope this post helped a bit, good luck with your training Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

You're most welcome and it sounds like you have thought things out fairly well. Kudos to you for wanting to lose some weight, i promise after you have experienced that first freefall you'll realise just why skydiving was such a good motivation
