  3. I gained my A licence in New Zealand earlier this year and notched up about 35 jumps, however, lack of money has seen things put on hold a bit! I'm now in Victoria, Australia, and should have the dollars to get current again soon. I was wondering what sort of reception I'll get, not having jumped for about 3-4 months? I assume I'll have to be assessed by an instructor? should I book this with the DZ or just turn up? and what sort of cost does this usually incur? I'd be grateful if anyone could help. Also, what does the assessment usually involve? Thanks again! I may be gullible but at least I have a magic fish

  9. Yoyr post definitely rings true with me. For as long as I can remember, I've dreamt of flying...I know everyone has 'the falling dream' but mine was a much more plesant experience than I've heard others describe. People talk about hitting the ground with a jolt and waking up with a jump, wheras my dreams always involved slowing down from falling and gently landing. I always knew I'd enjoy skydiving, and not just for the adrenaline side but the sheer enjoyment of the flying feeling. As soon as I completed my first jump it honestly felt that I'd finally found the life for me! I may be gullible but at least I have a magic fish
  10. I landed crosswind on purpose after about 10 jumps after hearing about, and unfortunately seeing first hand the consequences of low-timers desperately trying to face upwind by making hard turns far too low. I've always taken my AFF instructor's advice that the most important thing is to have a square canopy above your head, and don't panic too much if the wind direction isn't perfect for your landing...also its better to have a down/crosswind landing with a clear safe area in front of you than try to force an upwind landing in a tight landing area. I really believe these points should be stressed more during AFF I may be gullible but at least I have a magic fish

  12. Alright. Alright calm down etc! Originally I come from daaarn Saaaarf, but will be moving up North when I get back (early next year) so any info on good/bad dropzones at home would be much appreciated...I have heard many a good word spoken about Peterlee so its definitely on my list to check out asap. 13. Thought I'd say hello to y'all! I'm a scummy english backpacker who did a tandem in Taupo (NZ) a few weeks ago, signed up for AFF the next day and haven't looked back! I've notched up a paltry 34 jumps which have so far given me pretty much the best 24minutes of my entire life! I've just arrived in Melbourne where I'm planning on living for the next year or so and was wondering whether everyone agrees that Barwon Heads is the best place for someone of my standard to head for? Thanks for all the excellent info...who knows I might just have some experience to pass on myself one day! Keep on keeping on! Matt.
