According to your website the "Putting in the free bag" up to "Paperwork" part is done twice.
    That's absolutely much work for 40, ehm 50$ :D

    (edit - spelling)

    I'm thorough - what can I tell ya! :P

Heh... Reviving this thread 5 years later...

Is the free web-based guide still available online? I can't find it on your site anymore.

    Thanks!

5 fucking years! Really? Damn I'm getting so old.... okay it's back http://www.sidsrigging.com/ this is the old packing parachutes website, a couple of the external links may not work, but the general study guide does. I'm going to go through it, make a few revisions and then upload an updated version in a few weeks.........

How about publishing on youtube or google-video?

it's an html document no videos but lots of pictures. It'll probably be available by the end of the day, I just needed a prod to start the project.... I'll put up the old packingparachutes site as a download, then next week I'll go through it to make sure any broken links are corrected and reload it.........

When I wrote that I wasn't very good at optimizing things and my bandwidth was getting eaten up. Since then I've had a few people ask me about it and I've sent the old site out to them burned on a cd rom, but since this is the 4th inquiry in about 2 weeks I guess it's time to resurrect it. :)
I plan on zipping the entire old packing parachutes site and making it available as a download early next week, I'll post a link to it here when it's done........ keep'em peeled it'll be available as a stand alone download soon........

  6. Just after I first started jumping a Tandem I went in after a single riser broke on a tandem rig. The single sided RSL deployed the reserve into the malfunctioning main causing the fatality. I cut the rsl off of my first (POS) rig right then.

That scenario was addressed by the manufacturer with the addition of a loop to the other breakaway cable, but I never reconnected the single sided RSL to my rig. Bill Booth (at the PIA symposium where he introduced the Skyhook) said "A single sided RSL is a stupid idea" and for once I agree with him
    ;)

On my tandem rig (Racer Tandem System) I keep the RSL connected until I'm happy with the main, then disconnect one side.

I have done several intentional cutaways with the RSL (it is easier to time the reserve deployment when you only pull one handle - of course I pull them both but you only time from the breakaway). They work fine - I just never got around to hooking one up to my sport rig again........

  7. they look okay to me, as long as they trap both sections of the line (the part inside and the outer sleeve) they should be fine........

Can you post the article? Some of us don't get skydiving mag.

Following the recent clusterf$#% meeting in Orlando, I subscribed to Skydiving magazine. Parachutist gets a quick scan then thrown on the pile, SKYDIVING gets read cover to cover... the article is really good, Truffer's editorial is really good too (and the article I wrote ain't half bad either :) ) it's worth subscribing for the $16??? I think. Hell it's not even the cost of a lift ticket.

  9. That just looks like some nylon (maybe Type 4) sewn loosely around the links (usually around rapide links) to protect both the grommet from the link and vice versa. Less bulky than plastic tubing links and demanding less space against the riser covers when the rig is packed.

Yeah, but his new rig before this one, the reserve pack job looked better.:):P;)

Hope life is treating you well Peter.

As for the brain-dead, red-neck riggers - who stuffed Reflex pilot chute mesh and fabric between the composite cap and the cosmetic cloth cap - they had to be truly clueless to pack a reserve pilot chute substantially differently than every other manufacturer recommends!
Hint, all the other manufacturers say to stuff, fold, roll, etc. pilot chute mesh and fabric near the spring.

No, on the Racer the hat is sewn to the top of the reserve pilot chute. The mesh and fabric is gathered into the coils of the spring as it's compressed. There's no chance of putting it between the hat and the pilot chute.

That'd be the guy I bought my Reflex from! He had one catapult save, and at least one more improperly packed reserve pilot chute found after the first incident. I didn't know why he was such a big fan of the catapult system until I found the true story on rec.skydiving.

Are racer reserve pilot chutes packed the same way?

    Dave

    many many thanks...

public meetings need to be public (to the members at min)

anyone citing security/privacy concerns for a recreational activity and the membership organization that governs it only further illustrates that something is indeed rotten in 'denmark'

Here's my final impression of the meeting. This was my first time (don't start with the freakin' beer jibes, I'm not in the mood :P) to attend a USPA meeting and it will be my last. I was asked to attend by Jan to "offer moral support" and after 4 minutes of hearing Glenn Bangs exhort "DILATORY!" and "POINT OF ORDER!" I was reminded of one of my favorite lines from Blazing Saddles

"God darnit, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore"

then we were thrown out. I stood outside the meeting hall (apart from a 45 minute trip to Denny's) until 2:00 pm and watched several BOD members walk by to go to the restroom and even watch "Mr. Lamarr :P" himself walk by me several times and offer no explanation as to what was happening inside.

At 2:00 pm I gave up.

I found out afterwards that I would have been allowed back in at 4:30pm and STILL would not have known what happened regarding the 2 items that I was interested in hearing about (Jan's removal and the Skyride settlement).

I left with this impression of "My Organization" - it can kiss my ass. No more articles for Parachutist from me, I'll pay my dues reluctantly, and my notice to quit as an S&TA will be emailed to the RD on Monday.

I'm off to Epcot B| I hope they have a wonderful weekend at the Metropolitan Resort - DILATORY! POINT OF ORDER! DILATORY Y'ALL!

Oh, and it was nice to finally meet DiabloPilot:)

Just asking for a point of information

DILITARY! POINT OF ORDER! (I guess you had to have been there :S) - I copied and pasted this from the other thread

"AFAIK, Kip is resigning because he took a 12 year old on a tandem without a waiver and then tried to file a waiver after the fact to cover his ass and he got busted doing it.

    Discussion here:

    http://www.dropzone.com/...tring=worst;#2995711 "

and for clarification I'm mad at Bangs and the USPA, not Kip:P

considering how long they're leaving a bunch of skydivers to wander around the hotel and get bored, I hope USPA doesn't have to pay the damages.:)

I tried giving this cheesy, greek god torso statue a titty twister and almost broke it, so I decided to call it quits. I gave up a full day of work for this shit and was locked out of the meeting for 5 hours, which is exactly 4 hours and 55 mins. past my patience level.

I hope that somebody added "special Sauce" to Bangs pizza and that he chokes on it! - I'M GONE.....

Terry, you know it's only cheating IF you get caught!
BTW if you want to make it easy when your doing the 20 under supervision, take the PC out. They can be packed without a PC and they're much easier to close.

I think this is cheating:P but that's what Dave DeWolf does to make it easy on his candidates.
