  1. Teams and schedule as well a whole lot of information has been posted to http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  2. Bryan!! Come on out and fly with us next weekend! I'll be sure to put you on my email list and send you information about any upcoming meets. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  3. I've posted a few updates at http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ Everyone who is registered should have received the same updates by email, but you can check that site as well. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  4. Erin, I just send you a personal email about this, but will post the information here as well. First off, I apologize for not getting information out. I haven't received any requests for more information so I didn't realize anyone was this bothered. I wish someone had let me know people were getting worked up and wanted more information or had concerns. I will be sending out an email to all registered competitors with more detailed information tomorrow including times, answers to common questions I have been asked and general tips. The general schedule is: We're going to meet at 9:30am for the briefing, practice flights will start around 10:15, final briefing and draw will be at 11:00. The meet will start at noon and end around 3:30 with the awards ceremony at 4:00 (or maybe later if the judges need more time.) We're going to have everyone go through round 1, then everyone go through 2, etc. instead of having each class go through all their rounds and then move on to the next class. If anyone has any VFS specific questions, please contact me directly. If I don't personally receive your questions, chances are you will not receive an answer. Again, I apologize for any confusion and hope everyone is still going to participate. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  5. When have you ever done a hop n pop to land next to hear??? I agree with Ron completely. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  6. Just a reminding that today is the last day to register and get a free t-shirt. If you are thinking of registering, please let me know and I'll hold a spot for your team. It's going to be a great time up there
  7. There are discounted registration fees for people who want to do multiple events: For VFS competiors: $75 for the first VFS event $60 for additional freefly class For FS competitors: $60 reg for the freefly (no extra shirt) if they want to participate in a VFS event, too $40 if they want to do multiple FS events in one day (Rookie and Int. or Int and Open) Only one t-shirt per competitor if they register for both disciplines Check out the Google spreadsheet if you want to compete, but need a teammate: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApFFDKFiX0PedHctZnRiUzRwVEtNLTR1cUJVYVB2bEE&hl=en I've also added a link to a dive generator at http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ so you can generate sample draws to practice. It will generate dives for FS and VFS. Registration is picking up and there are only a few days left before the November 20th free t-shirt deadline. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  8. A couple updates: The discounted tunnel time rates are November 30th - December 4th, they do not start November 27th. I've had several people express concern about block HD-14 - Grip Front Flip Grip. There are people who want to compete head down, but are backloopers and don't do head down front flips. We're going to change that block so you can do either a front flip or a back flip. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  10. Members of Dallas Rogue and SkyVenture New Hampshire will be hosting our first vertical formation skydiving tunnel competition on Sunday December 6, 2009. Our goal is to have a fun meet and give freeflyers something to hold them over until the snow melts – this meet will also be a great opportunity for folks interested in forming teams for next year to meet potential teammates and for people considering competing to learn what it's all about. There will not be any cash purses, but prizes will include tunnel time and donated prizes from manufacturers. There will also be a 4-way FS meet on Sautrday December 5th. More details about that meet can be found here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3716634;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Registration prices this year (for the Sunday VFS events) will be $75 per competitor regardless of her/his competition class. Price includes a pizza lunch, bottled water, a DVD of your team’s flights, your meet flights and warm up time, and if you register before the November 20 deadline, a free t-shirt for each team member. Full rules and dive pool are attached and can also be found at http://www.gottunnel.com/NHTunnelMeet Below is a brief summary. The competition will include three classes: Intermediate, Advanced and Pro. All classes will complete 6 competition rounds with rounds 1 and 2 being drawn from the belly/back dive pool. Everyone will have to fly on their belly and back for two rounds! For Intermediate, rounds 3-6 will be drawn from the head-up dive pool excluding grip front flip grip (HU-12). The Intermediate class will have 3-4 points drawn per round. Advanced will have rounds 3-6 drawn from the vertical dive pool excluding points marked as PRO. These points can have both people head-up or one person head-up and one person head-down. Only one person will ever have to be head-down for Advanced. The Advanced class will have 4-5 points drawn per round. Pro will have rounds 3-6 drawn from the entire vertical dive pool - both people head-up, one head-up on head-down, both people head-down. The Pro class will have 4-5 points drawn per round. The registration fee will include the 2, 1 minute warm-up flights. These flights should be used to determine your wind speeds - one speed for belly/back points, one speed for vertical points. You can have a different wind speed for every round if you want, but you'll want a minumum of two wind speeds. Everyone entering the VFS competition must be checked off with the IBA (http://www.tunnelflight.com) at the appropriate level. If you are not checked off, please due so before the meet or during the practice rounds otherwise you will not be elibile. Each round has 35 seconds of working time. You will be given 60 seconds to have your wind speed set, enter the tunnel, complete your 35 seconds of working time and exit the chamber. Working time for Intermediate will begin from within the tunnel when both of either competitor's feet leave the net. You will be allowed to walk into the tunnel and set up on the net if you want to launch a formation. Advanced and Pro teams must do door entrances. Working time will begin when both of either competitor's feet leave the floor of the antechamber. You will be allowed to have one foot in the wind and be leaning into the chamber as long as one foot is in the antechamber. To register for the meet, all you need to do is email Ari at NHTunnelMeetVFS"at"gmail"dot"com with the team name, the competition class you will be competing in, the full names of both team members, each team member's email address, and each team member's t-shirt size. All payments will be made on site at SkyVenture New Hampshire on the day of the meet. Remember, teams that register before November 20 get free t-shirts. If you want to compete but don't have a teammate, go to the following google spread sheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApFFDKFiX0PedHctZnRiUzRwVEtNLTR1cUJVYVB2bEE&hl=en This spreadsheet was made for the 4-way FS meet, but we can still use it for VFS. Under "Preferred Class", make sure you write "VFS" and the class. Please be careful not to change or delete any fields besides your own as the changes will get saved automatically. REGISTRATION IS ALREADY FILLING QUICKLY - PLEASE CONTACT ME SOON TO RESERVE YOUR TEAM'S SLOT! Registered teams will be able to purchase discounted training time from Friday November 27th through Friday December 4th at a rate of $360 per half hour or $660 for hour blocks. If you are flying practice time with your team, it would be good to have the tunnel driver note your airspeed and communicate it to me. Lastly, discounted rates at the Radisson hotel are available for registered teams. Price is just $52 plus tax per night. To book a room you should contact SkyVenture New Hampshire at (888)SKY-VENTURE and leave a message for Laurie Greer with your check in date, your check out date, how many beds (double or king), your name and phone number, and your credit card number. She’ll book the room and call you back with a confirmation number. The Radisson has a pool, sauna, hot-tub, health club, free internet in the room / wifi in the lobby, full restaurant, bar and more. We look forward to your participation! Please feel free to forward this on to folks (and DZ list serves) and contact me by email if you have any questions about the event. - NHTunnelMeetVFS"at"gmail"dot"com Blues, Ari Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  11. A very small part of it is there were several who were competing in the FS events and would have competed in the VFS events if the weather had been better. Due to the bad weather, the schedule was compressed. There was no realistic way to compete in 8way FS and 4way VFS since we had 40 minute calls for 8way FS. If I was doing 4way VFS at the same time, I would have had to do 1 round of 8way FS, back up that load with 1 round of 4way VFS and then have 20 minutes to prep the next round of each. The scheduling of 8way FS and 4way VFS right on top of each other prevented at least 2 4way VFS teams from competing and prevents a few of us from being able to commit to training both teams. This only affects a few people. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  12. I disagree Ron. I don't see everyone on Airspeed loading up on lead to go faster... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  13. I love the Sansa Clip http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Black/dp/B001H9O6QW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252670151&sr=8-2 It's better sound quality than the Shuffle, supports more formats and has a small lcd and more features. It's also less expensive. The 1GB one is less than $30 which is great if you loose it, or if it decides it needs some solo tunnel time. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  14. ER6i by Etymotic Research are fantastic. I use them just as ear plugs at times when I don't want music. When I want music, the sound quality is fantastic. http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-Isolator-Earphones-Black/dp/B000BQSGMM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252638270&sr=8-1 Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  15. There are lots of great suits out there. Look through this forum and the gear reviews to read up on them. My personal favorite freefly suit is LiquidSky (http://www.liquidskysports.com/) They make a very high quality suit that looks fantastic and flies great. It is custom fit and they can do just about anything you want with the suit. I have a few hundred jumps and easily 100 hours of tunnel time on my suit and it still is in perfect condition. Their customer service is also top notch. If you do have any problems, they are extremely responsive and will make sure you are happy with your suit. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  16. I'm going to agree with the recommendation for LiquidSky. They are some of the nicest looking suits out there and mine have held out great through a lot of jumps and tons of tunnel time. Check out the Post Your Liquid Sky Suit thread to see some of them. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  17. As others have said, the fit of the harness will affect you much more than the size of the rig. The size of the rig definitely does make a difference, but that difference is negligible at this point in your progression. Since you are smaller, go with a rig that offers cut in laterals. This will keep the rig more snug against your body. The less the rig moves around on you the better. The cut ins will also prevent any gap between the bottom of the container and your butt. The rental gear almost certainly has a gap here and that has a pretty big affect on freeflying. There are tons of great rigs out there that will fit you properly. I personally jump Vector 3s and love them. Look around. Your priorities for buying a rig should be: 1) Fits an appropriately sized main/reserve combo for your experience 2) Properly fitting harness 3) Comfort / cool factor Get yourself some good coaching and you'll find that the thing most affecting your freeflying is you, not the container. 18. If you live close enough to the tunnel to use it often, it's probably the best deal in tunnel time there is. You can pretty easily fly 2+ hours per month. You can also talk to other members and share time with each other to fly a whole lot more. Just be sure to talk to the staff or coach ahead of time if you want coaching. That's not included in the membership so if the staff there helps you out, be sure to tip! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  19. I'm not sure why it's a 16 year old kid, but other than that, I'm fine with it. If someone did lots of simulator time and passed the evaluations in a real airplane, then why not? I don't think tunnel time is freefall time, but I also think the freefall time requirement doesn't mean a whole lot. Say someone does 200 jumps and then 80 wingsuit jumps. That's plenty to get 6 hours of freefall time. Now say someone has 280 jumps and 20 hours of wind tunnel time specifically training for the AFF rating. One has 6 hours of freefall time, one doesn't. Who do you think is more qualified and going to do better on the evaluation jumps? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  20. As others have said, that's a standard disclaimer you will find with all helmets to prevent a law suit if something goes wrong. I use a Factory Diver and it is a great helmet that has protected me from being crushed into the back of the airplane, smashing into tunnel walls and countless kicks to the face. There is no question that it has saved me from some broken bones. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

    Freefly suit

Which is why I would not buy one. It's such a trendy thing right now, it's almost comical. I don't get it. It's a high quality, great looking suit. The company has fantastic service. Lots of people like these traits in a suit/company so they buy the suit (trendy). Because of all these good traits, you *don't* want one? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  22. 2-way Freefly/VFS Open 1) Ari + Plamer 2) Melody + Selwyn 3) Thomas + Kay 2-way Feefly/VFS Intermediate 1) Plamer + Emma 2) Angela + Jairo 3) Pali + Julia (I think 2 + 3 are right, but I could be mistaken) 4-way VFS 1) NorCal (with Travis from SoCal) 2) XP (Dalton, Derek, Selwyn, Earl) 3) Thomas, Kyle, Ari, Kay/Plamer 4-way RW 1) Fury 2) Airspeed (with Thomas and John E filling in for Craig and Eliana) 3) Knights 8-way RW 1) XP 2) Knights Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  25. Wendy, is VFS still one class, winner take all? Is it really 1 minute of working time? Not 35 seconds? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
