  1. When flying at freefly speeds in wind tunnels, I prefer wearing under armour to prevent rashes. In warm weather (or a recirculator) I wear either the Heat Gear Long Sleeve or the Heat Gear T. For cold weather in an open air tunnel (AZ, Orlando) I wear the Cold Gear. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with under armour and I have 1000+ hours of tunnel time so I may not know what I am talking about. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  4. Get a good coach. Tell the coach your experience and what you're looking to learn. Listen to the coach. I'd recommend doing two (or more), 15 minute sessions. You'll get more out of more, shorter sessions since you'll be able to watch the video, debrief, and get back in the tunnel to apply what you've learned. Have fun! 10. I disagree with a lot of the advice in this thread. Get your legs wide with your heels turned out to use the inner surfaces of your legs to catch air - your inner thighs and calves. Keep your hips back and lean your back into the wind. Keep your head back to get the back of the your head and shoulders into the wind. Get your arms wide and out to the sides. Keep pressure on the wind with with your arms, but don't press them down past being straight out or you will just lose surface area. Do you live close to a tunnel? Watch a good coach/instructor sit fly at low wind speeds. http://www.liquidskysports.com/images/stories/photo_gallery/030.jpg Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  13. I can't believe there's no thread for it. Congrats to Travis, Andy and Matt for winning open freefly at Nationals again. That makes 3 years in a row! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  14. Also talk to the tunnel. Some tunnels have harnesses specifically for this. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  15. It really depends on your goals. If your goal is to get a good, solid foundation for head down in a short period of time, then go to the tunnel and get a good coach. If you want to learn head down at a leisurely pace and have fun relaxing and hanging out as well as learning, then jump (with a good coach). The bottom line is you will learn more in shorter period of time at the tunnel and spend more money in that period of time. The price per minute of coached flight time is way less than skydiving, but you spend more in a short period of time. I think the best way to learn head down is to do both. For every hour you fly in the tunnel, do about 10 jumps, preferably with the same coach. This way you can apply what you learned in the tunnel to skydiving. Also be sure to put some uncoached tunnel time/jumps in there so you can just relax and play around. Whichever way you go, ask around and find yourself a good coach. You're already spending a lot of money jumping/tunneling. It's worth it to spend a little bit more and get a lot more value out of it all. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  16. Awesome Amy. I'd love to finally make it out there for the next one. Are the 2way rules going to be the same? Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  17. nope. There's a Flyaway which is called Vegas Indoor Skydiving. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  18. Possble without tunnels? Yes. Would it have happened this year without tunnels? Probably not. You don't need to fly in a wind tunnel to be good, but it's a much faster and more efficient way to get good. Especially with a good coach. Look at the medal winners from the Open freefly events from Nationals: 1st place VFS AZ Arsenal - lots of tunnel time 2nd place VFS SDC Standard XP - lots of tunnel time 1st place freefly SoCal Converge - lots of tunnel time 2nd place freefly Orlando XP - lots of tunnel (both tunnel instructors) Good thought Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  19. From zero tunnel time to flying off the net head down in 1 hour? You must have some amazingly talented flyers. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  20. Whether the tunnel is 56 feet tall like XP or not, there are going to be huge problems if there is a deployment. First, you are going to shoot up and slam into the top. That will probably cause a fatality. Then the canopy is going to get sucked up through the turning vanes or directly into the fan blades depending on the type of tunnel. While this is happening, you'll be getting slammed around. I imagine the tunnel would probably stop working since the fans will be tangled with material and lines. When that happens, you'll either fall back down or be stuck up there. I don't see any part of that process being survivable. Your response didn't come across to me like you were posting your thoughts, I thought it sounded like you were shooting down what Kirk posted. That's just my interpretation though. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  21. People have gotten hurt in wind tunnels by going up to the top too fast in just a suit and hitting the top of the tunnel hard. I don't think anyone would be able to survive the impact if a canopy came out. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  22. I have a link to full meet results including score sheets at http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ Thanks again for the great meet everyone! Hope to see you all next time
  23. First off, HUGE thanks to Rob and Laurie for hosting the meet and for doing so many big and little things to make the meet happen. The staff also did an amazing job of keeping everything running smoothly. Thanks to all the competitors for coming out to support each other and representing the North East! Intermediate 1) Chasse/Perelman 2) McNaughton/LaWare 3) Bolotin/Lafond Advanced 1) Antelocy/Tucker 2) LaWare/Rouillard 3) Sarkisyan/Gagne Pro 1) Perelman/Shelton 2) Gagne/Fresia Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

  25. Registration is now closed with 15 teams! Really important - I've made a lot of changes to the dive pool so please go to the website http://www.gottunnel.com/nhtunnelmeet/ and review them. Most of the changes are just wording intended to clarify things. If you practiced in 100% accordance with the old dive pool, you will not have to make any changes. This is just to settle a lot of confusion and questions I've been getting. If you do see something that stands out as being different, let me know because it's probably my mistake. I'm looking forward to a great meet this weekend! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
