  1. I figure the main difference is one is rated to 550 lbs and the other is rated to 825lbs...This leads me to believe one is thicker than the other. But how much force does someone who weighs 190lbs exert on his lines?? Am I safe buying 550lb lines?? --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 2. Hello anyone from SD Monroe. I'm going to be jumping with you on my visit to Athens and Atl at the end of this month. Hopefully the one day I can jump will have some sun for me. Look forward to seeing all ya'll. I'll be trying to jump Saturday April 24th as early as I can get out there till the sun goes down. As many jumps as I can get in. I'm pretty new to the sport with only 50+ jumps but I always look forward to jumping new places. Can't wait to meet you all. --smiley --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 3. You're right. I could totally be taking a lax position on the whole thing. I'm generally a conservative when it comes to downsizing. I'm actually getting rid of the 150 that came with this rig because of that fact (it was elliptical). And, you guys' opinions here mean a lot to me. I don't just take it at face value I really do take into consideration what everyone on these forums has to say. Thanks for your input everybody. joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 4. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I started jumping less than a year ago and LORD, Its addictive. Now a year later I'm broke and still scrounging for enough nickels dimes and pennies (used all my quarters) for "ONE MORE JUMP". Happy jumping. --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 5. Thanks skymedic. I guess I'm going to trust the opinion of the people who jump with me regularly and see what they say about getting rid of my reserve or keeping it. I think I'll be fine...but that may be clouded judgement on my behalf. The guy at my DZ that kinda mentored me through my student jumps thinks I'll be fine off with the 143, so I'll go with that for now. My rigger also thinks it shouldn't be a problem. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  6. This is exactly why I was asking this question. I guess I can give a bit of background. I Just bought a new rig with a 150 vengeance and pd143 reserve because the price the guy was asking was too good to pass up. SO now I'm currently piecing out the gear to try to upsize the main and haven't decided on the reserve yet. I feel comfortable landing the 143 in the worst conditions but I just don't know if its smart in case of a 2 out situation. I plan on downsizing to a 150 soon just not quite yet. (50 or so jumps) and definitely not going ot downsize to an elliptical. And please don't feel like your yelling at me...I take this all as constructive discussion on a topic i have less experience in. --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 7. Does anyone see a problem with flying a 143 Reserve with a 170 main? --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  8. I've decided to sell the canopy and buy a sabre2 170...Anyone need a vengeance 150 with 20 jumps on it? --joe I Have an ad up in the classifieds if you do. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  9. Great advice. I agree it only takes one poor jump to get you hurt/. Judgement time. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  10. Thank you all for your input it really is invaluable for me to learn what others out there think. Being new to the sport I always try to find the opinion of the more experienced divers before making a decision such as this. I never planned on jumping the 150 vengeance I just wanted to see where people jumped their first elliptical to get a judgement of whether or not I should keep the 150 or sell it and buy a spectre 170...OR...keep it AND buy a spectre 170. From what I'm hearing...the vengeance is a fun canopy and they are no longer going to be produced and it's not gaining value as nothing is nowadays. So the dilema was just whether or not I would benefit from keeping it. But looking back at it all this is how I see it. I probably won't be jumping this canopy at least for another year....and by then I may have changed my direction of concentration in the sport and won't even want an elliptical...With that being said, and ya'll personal opinions, i'm PROBABLY going to sell it rather than keep it around waiting to jump it. My final question is this. Some people have said I should take one jump on it and see how I like it. No low turns just a high opening, straigh pattern landing, and see how I like it. What do you guys think? Is that a big risk? --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  11. Lets see its a 150 and my exit weight is 190. 1.27:1 --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  12. OH i didn't buy this because I thought I'd be jumping a 150 vengeance in 100 jumps. I bought it because the deal was amazing. This doctor bought a customized rig and put 20 jumps on it and then left the sport after that. So he's selling this rig for dirt cheap just to get rid of it and cut his losses. I didn't even think that I would fly the 150 my only thought was whether or not i should sell it or keep it for later use. But i agree with you. Can't predict the future, and you don't want to hurt yourself trying to. --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  13. Trust me...I'm don't down size unless I'm not afraid to. If I feel a small twinge of fear I know I'm not ready. That's my best judgement. I understand what you're saying though. At this point it's looking like I'm going to sell it. I'll ask my riggers at my home DZ for the final words. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 14. I'll be getting in touch with you soon about this 170. I'm Bogged down with work today. Thanks though. --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  15. I'm only at 52 jumps now...I just realized I didn't even put the kind of elliptical it was. It's a vengeance 150. I agree with what everyone is saying...I know also that every case is different. I've been asking around my DZ the rigger mostly asking about the flight characteristics and openings etc...just trying to get a feel for how this canopy flies. I've also asked the opinion of the people who know how I fly under canopy for recommendations. Everyone pretty much says the same thing...wait wait wait until you're 1000% sure you can fly the spectre 170 like a pro and then downsize from there. And to be honest with you I 100% agree with them. I'm a little chicken$hit when it comes to my life...which I think keeps me in the shape I'm in. My dilema will be now...to sell or not to sell...this particular main only has 20 jumps on it so it's pretty spanking brand new. So i'd be hard pressed to NOT get rid of it at this point considering It may be a few months/years before I can even fly this canopy. We'll see what they say when I get the new rig in. I trust the people who have flown with me most, because they know how I progressed over the time in my jumping life when my learning curve is at it's steapest. So I'm definitely not jumping this canopy for a while...Now "To sell or not to sell." Thank you all for your opinions. I consider the forums to be my personal Gurus. Thanks, joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  16. I hardly think it's stupid unless you can't land what you have now safely and repeatedly and are going to attempt to downsize. I'm only at 50ish jumps I weigh 180 and jump a spectre 170 on rental gear. But I don't doubt myself under that wingload or my canopy skills. It WOULD be stupid of me now to jump to a 150 high performance elliptical canopy on my next jump however...and I wouldn't do it. By the way...I'm looking to piece a rig together...if you don't make use of that 170 pass it along. :) Remember Safety First, Prayers Second, Curse Words last. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 17. I'm in the negotiation process of purchasing a new complete rig. The rig comes with an elliptical and I'm no where near ready to try to fly it. (BTWI'm still looking for a spectre 170) My dilema is do I keep the elliptical and jump until I feel comfortable to downsize to a 150 and do I leap to the elliptical canopy at the same time. Or Do i downsize to a 150 spectre...see how I like flying that...and then try out a larger sized elliptical canopy??? I know things like this are on a per person basis...but any feedback that may or may not sway me from selling this canopy or keeping it for later use would be greatly appreciated. --joekwon --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! 18. I'd have to say I like rockstar the best. :) Nothing like jumping out of a plane though lemme tell you. I can't wait to get my recurrency though....I've never been nervous skydiving...I'm more nervous of what everyone is going to say to me when I set foot at the DZ....I'm sure I'll get quite a bit of ridicule. Always happens. :) I love those guys though. I'm ready though. I'm getting a loan from the bank to freaking fund my habit and get gear and recurrent and a bagillion jumps. What is wrong with me. Anyways, ya'll have a great time out there this weekend. I unfortunately have to wait yet another week before I can dive. Freaking OBLIGATIONS. You're my boy blue, joe OH hey...here are some haikus that i wrote in my boredom at work. Suicide pack job Who packed this rig....Wasn't ME. I hope it opens. I love to sky dive. Flying so high in the sky. Buy my next jump bitch. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  19. After countless hours in Network Closets and Command Centers THIS classical musician turned computer scientist turned rockstar has strapped himself back into the sky. It's been a while and I've missed the sport too much...so...now, time to get recurrent. AHHHH coach jumps. Hopefully my bud alicat will do the jump with me since she is now a certifiable coach. Glad to be back, hope to jump with ya'll again soon. In the meantime look for me in this band www.bpandrr.com we may be hitting up your home town sooner than you think. 21. If my DZ isn't having an event I'd love to come visit the Raeford DZ. A good friend of mine's family is from Raeford, and I would love to visit them. Maybe you know them :). --joekwon --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  22. Sorry about the rain...if it makes you feel any better, I've been rained out the past three days. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  23. Oh I've been off student status for about a month now. :) I've been busy. I have 35 jumps so far and HOPE to get my fifty by the end of this month. Sad I didn't start sooner. Happy I started when I actually had money to support my new habit. --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! The new full length album "See What You Can Find"
  24. Hey you guys just started jumping March 28th and so far have been jumping as many times as I can. I knew the second i dropped out of the plane on my tandem 1 that i was hooked, and since then i've gone to my DZ rain or shine. Look forward to talking to you guys soon. Outside of skydiving i'm a network consultant, so this definitely breaks up the monotony of my weeks. Thanks. --joe --joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!!
