  1. this is my non digital set up. I used a canon A-2 with an of the shoe cord to a 540EZ. I can synch up to 1/200th a second with this. The downfall is it's friggin heavy...for me anyway. And a lot more snag points. My next big spend will be all digital for sure. my pics & stuff!
  2. First, I apologize for flying off the handle. It's one of biggest turn off's about rigging for me, i.e. other riggers basically bashing others work, quoting mistakes made by others. Mostly little things, like no bumpers on reserve links, or no nail polish on the barrels. I agree that the forum should be and is a place to learn from others mistakes, but to automatically "assume" that every little thing is a mistake by another rigger is what annoys me. Pretty much to the point where if I had an "iffy" issue to bring up, I probably wouldn't due to not wanting to hear others negative comments. We are not "all knowing" just because we received a ticket from the FAA. I think some of us need to be a little more humble. As for the pilot chute spring and the fabric? Good question....I have no clue. my pics & stuff!
  3. Really.....and how would you know that this was the problem? Once the pin is popped, and spring is released, there is really no way of telling where the hell the fabric/mesh was. Nothing chaps my ass more than other riggers being so quick to point out that others have screwed up. my pics & stuff!

  6. As long as the camera has a tri-pod mounting hole (the screw hole at the bottom of the camera), then yes, you can. It should work great. You can get cheaper, but I wouldn't. my pics & stuff!
  7. in addition to that, the stabalizers were ram air too. I think they inflated with cross ports from the end cells. But, I could be wrong. my pics & stuff!

  10. My ex-wife made this one outa cardboard, and used probably a whole role of tape to strengthen it. It worked out awesome. I think the key was the exit so she wouldn't tumble, and lose the sign, or get beat to shit by it. Her sign did come apart on opening. She let go with one hand and pulled, and the sign disappeared. By the way, we won a trip to Mexico with this from a radio station. TOTALLY agree on facing the sun, and try to keep from back sliding. my pics & stuff!
  11. This helped me. There is a video called "pack like a pro", and it's on Pro packing. I was able to throw my canopy over my shoulder in front of the TV, and watch the video. Rewind when it looked odd, and then go from there. It TOTALLY helped me understand what I was supposed to be looking at. Now, good luck finding the video. It's about 7 years old. my pics & stuff!
  12. still think it's a grey area. Not too mention a scam on how much you are paying for batteries. no point in quoting this and trying to be-little. This is how I see it, and I'm entitled to that. my pics & stuff!
  13. I don't see how you could say "there is no leeway". It says nothing cut and dry that once the batteries are past the date, that the rig must be grounded, and taken care of. I'm not advocating that this is what I do, but it is a good debate. We stock cypres batteries here, and basically change them every repack due to the rigs generally having almost 500 jumps in a cycle. But, the batteries we have are sitting on a shelf, and are well into the 2 years from DOM. I know that this is a little different, but just a thought. It says the 2 years is from last battery change. What if the batteries were on the shelf for a year? Where does this fit in? Sorta a grey area. my pics & stuff!
  14. if it's the straboframe, I highly recommend it. And you "should" be able to get it for cheaper than 65 bucks. I think I got mine for around 50, and I thought I got it through the B&Hphoto website. But yes, it's plenty strong. my pics & stuff!
  15. You can also get 1,000lb vectran, that's what we use on the tandem rigs. As for you, I'd call Icarus and ask them. I'm sure you can get whatever you want, just like Spectra. my pics & stuff!
  16. I tend to agree, but not soo sure of the battery issue. I was under the impression that there is some leeway with the dates on them too. my pics & stuff!

  18. Pretty sure the vectran will just cut through the softer metal of brass and aluminum. The grommets and lines won't last very long. I agree with the pocket deal. I had one put on a sabre a few years back, and it was like a light switch. Much better openings. my pics & stuff!
  19. I just ordered a line set for my stiletto from PD, and they didn't ask if I was a Master Rigger, or even a rigger. my pics & stuff!

  21. Ok, here's one that I've sorta questioned about packing a racer that is small and has a cypres. A rigger who has packed quite a few racers in his time was telling me that if the bottom flap has roughly less than 1.5" from the side of the reserve container to the grommet, and it has a cypres, then he would run that closing loop around the outside of the canopy. Meaning, he would use a soft bodkin on the deeper grommet of the bag, put the canopy in the bag, and then run the other bodkin around the end of the folded canopy. Does any of this make sense? I've never tried it or seen it. He said it helped with the cypres unit, and made for an easier and tighter pack. I don't like the idea of the closing loop being pulled across the canopy that way. I have a racer, and I know I'm just gonna have to take more time to do it. I don't do them that often. Anyone? my pics & stuff!
  22. It's a brazilian Bandaranti(?). Twin turbine low wing, with no cockpit doors. The pilot would have to be pretty lucky to be able to get to the back of the plane and leave before impact. My biggest concern was the thickness of the rig. The pilots (right now anyway) are fairly tall, and if the rig is over 3" thick, there may be issues of the guys feeling like they are being pushed off the end of the seat. I'm pretty sure we are going to stick with getting another round. But thanx for the ideas on the squares. my pics & stuff!
