  1. Basically I agree more training, make it EASY to take someone's guns but a blanket deal making a lot harder for me to get a gun is backwards. You want to really lower gun deaths - legalize drugs. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  2. I think this is a good point. "Why remove any gun deaths" Because when you separate the deaths you can see that a thug killing a thug is a large percentage. That a cop killing a thug, a person legitimently defending themselves is a percentage and other use of firearms that is a legitiment use then number of accidental killings, mass shootings becomes much smaller. "30,0000 killed by guns" just sounds better for gun control. Suicide by gun is terrible, untrained gun owners, people that don't secure their weapons - all need addressing. 3. Here's something that could be done, make the use of a gun in any crime a mandatory 20 year no probation crime. Of course we won't do it....to expensive.....to unfair to minorities.... But if we want to be arm to the teeth and cut down on SOME gun violence it would help. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  4. Of the seven mass shooting last week how many were gang related/drug related? At some point you have to break the shootings down - by type. A thug kills another thug with a gun. That is a death by gun but I refuse to accept that my right to have a weapon should be impacted by drug deals killing each other. That's not going to stop. I am FOR background checks, for proper and certified training being required. I have no problem with careless gun owners being prosecuted when a child get's hold of their gun an hurts someone. Having said the above the right to bare arms comes at a cost to society. I think we should minimalize that cost as much as possible but I think there is a cost that is worth paying for the rights of law abiding people to be able to carry a gun. 5. Bill under any consideration do you seriously think that after the attack on Pearl Harbor there REALLY was - other than some academic word play on this board - there was a serious position to not declare war? One that really would have made sense given the public reaction? I'm guess your putting that out here as an abstract straw man. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  6. The American people or Government didn't "sign up" for the war it was forced on them. Say unlike Iraq which was our fault - we "signed up" for that one.... I thought I wrote - "It wasn't a question if we would have won" certainly we would have won without dropping the bombs but also just as certainly at a great cost of American life. I think that straighten it out? Be safe buddy. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  7. Mark I don't understand you comment. Absolutely we were....and certainly with a little loss of American life as possible. For whatever side benefits (impress the Russians, PR) the bombs ended the war. The question isn't if we would have won (with our allies help of course) we certainly would have. 8. You had me till the end Bill. The American public was not "signing up" to get in the war. The attack on Pearl harbor forced America in the war. I also believe that the American public was tired of the war - with good reason but certainly other allied countries had a right to be even more weary. 9. Why was she addressing the city council this time - I thought there had to be a reason? Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  10. I think in general we can still agree that the bombs ended the war quicker than any supposed peace talks that were going on somewhere..... If you believe that there were serious and possible peace talks going on then the question becomes would it be worth the life's of allied soldiers deaths for that to come to pass. I'd easily say no. That's just not the way that game is played. Thanks to Qaude for the links. If anyone can pull this trip off and not apologize but make a statement I think it is Obama. I believe he might even LIKE to apologize which is probably why he will even go while other American presidents would not even remotely consider apologizing and wouldn't "risk" the trip for fear of looking like they might be. 11. Yeah she did Mark.....but when the $$ start being awarded to other people then a lot of "supports" RUN Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  12. Quade that's great - I hadn't read that, can you link it for me? The article I read said that it was expected that Obama would apologize. Thanks Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  13. Obama will not come remotely close to the: Bill Clinton - 68% Ronald Regan -63% He may climb a bit more before he leaves but to be impressed (even if you are a big supporter) at a 51% approval rating.....well it's just sad. Not at you Jerry, but at the idea that 49% of the country doesn't. Somehow we have to elected people that achieve more of what the entire country wants. 14. (LOL DanG) I'm NOT an "America is always right guy" way to many times history has proven that wrong but dropping the bomb(s) IMO was correct for reasons stated...... But the idea that we need to apologize is beyond me. Having that position should we expect the Japanese people to apologize to China, Korea ect? I've also found it strange that the firebombing raids that killed so many people get's very little press. What's the difference in being burned alive in a fire storm or vaporized in a nuclear bomb? Nothing - dead's, dead. It did require a lot less planes to kill so many with single bombs..... If Obama DOESN'T straight out apologize but pays his respects he'll get dinged by the nutty far right but may do some good. If he apologizes he will do a LOT of harm because it will validate the victimization of the Japanese people. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  15. I believe this could actually be a good thing, but it will be a fine balancing act. If anyone can pull this off it could be Obama. You can cut throw all the debate about America using the bomb by answering one simple question: Did America dropping the bomb save American life's? The answer is certainly. Generally, in war you wish to minimize the deaths on your side and maximize the death of your enemy. There is absolutely no doubt that had Germany or Japan had the bomb they would have used it. Japan needs to formally apologize to the people of China for many, many war time atrocity's. By Obama acknowledging the deaths of so many people - but not apologizing - perhaps this will happen. 17. I hate Trump. I hate Clinton. Clinton will kill Trump, most of the people in this thread will cheer. The American people will be just as screwed. But "our team" won will be the most important thing. Both parties had such better people to put up..... But we got Trump and Clinton. 18. All I know is that my rates are still going way up. I know that my insurance has become "car wreck or cancer" insurance because the deductible is so high. We still pay 100% of the cost for our employees and we are a small 29 employee company. I know I didn't get the tax break for providing health care at 100% for my employee because - GET THIS - my company was to big. I agree that the country needs health care reform but Obama care has not been what it was promised to be. The only good I can think is that it will get better - one day. 19. It does seem the cooler heads are listening. I wonder how much tax payer money has been spent on this issue? Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  20. Trump is doing nothing more than taping into the anger of people - the mistake I hear here is common - anyone that is angry is a bigot....a racist.....low educated.....ect, ect. This in some cases is true - but not in total. Just because people support Trump doesn't mean they are these things.....but they are for one thing certain - they are pissed. Some are mad because nothing seems to get done in Washington. Simple problems to the layman can't be fixed. A layman knows if he's spending to much he cuts back his spending and maybe gets a second job - Washington elite can't figure that one out. Immigration is the same, close the boarders and come up with a reasonable path to citizenship. School debt....something..... So they are frustrated. Many aren't racist....or any of the derogatory terms used here and in the press. Trump is terrible IMO but he is tapping into the frustration of a LOT of people and not all of them deserve the labels being thrown around. 22. I do agree.....if you take a look at our recent history in Iraq and Afghanistan you have to agree that people with NOTHING compared to what we have thrown at them have done a pretty good job of fighting. I understand that these fighters have weapons that the average American doesn't have (and I'm glad they don't) but with what they do have and the soldiers that would bring what they have..... we have the makings of a good little war. It won't come to that because in the end we will give up our guns. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  23. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/tears-hugs-and-cameras-help-sell-obamas-gun-talk/ar-AAgppA7?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=iehp There's something to be said for Obama taking a stand even if it is real late in the game, even if he could have done a lot more earlier (when he had the house and the senate) - having said that......this seems to be more to feed his base than to really do much. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  24. That could be taken as a number that supports that most of the cops are doing a good job. But of course not in the current climate. 42 LEO died this year by gun fire.....some of these were shooting when they died. 776 people were killed by LEO in 2015. Of these 161 were unarmed. I get it can be better, it just isn't as bad as comments like the above are designed to make it look. Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little
  25. In another post you mention (I think it was you) that all LEO shooting need to be investigated by a neutral third party. That really is a great answer, if "we the people" would pay for it. Also when they issue a fire arm to a LEO they should also issue a body cam. Again if " we the people" would pay for it. I've thought a lot about all this....I have a slanted view - my younger brother is a detective - but truthfully some of the people here seem to have never had a good experience at all with anyone in LE. OTOH I've never been treated poorly - even would I could have been. I know there are bad cops, that will never change but this position that it's just an out of control they are all doing it thing just doesn't add up. Yes - one is to many but what about the good ones? Most IMO by far are good. I replied to SkyDekker simply because occasionally we have two different views with some logic to both.....
