  1. The New York Times had a “neediest case” fund or something like that. I remember reading about it and how they would report out on it every year. I figured the caller decided that there would be no way to really get the money if it was a trap. To Fly’s point I think LeClair said that he just did it to get Gunther’s attention. You raise a good point about how much $ Gunther made on the book or sales. Gunther definitely came from money, and lived in a very well to do town. Generational wealth is a huge head start for many. I’m speculating, but I’m guessing he did not need the money. From all I’ve heard, he was disappointed at the feedback from the book and how Cooper was not a high time in his life. There are missing notes for sure. And we don’t know what he changed and kept to himself. He may not have wanted to send Himm’s everything until he got it in the book. In terms of parts that don’t seem realistic, I’ve heard the cabin and the disappearance. Are there others? When I read it I was all set to fly out to Washington and explore lakes. Luckily Martin and Google Maps set me straight. There are just not many lakes in that area.
  2. The book says Detroit, which may not be the exact city. That’s not unusual. So you’re saying she had no connection to Michigan? Not born there? What is your source? Does your source read the DZ or are they getting things second hand from you? So I’m just seeing things that aren’t there, like all the other “coincidences” from the book? If she was family, did she spend Thanksgiving 1971 with them?
  3. Convo on FB on the air stairs and that it indicates Cooper was from Boeing or had some Top Secret info. I had a chat with Eric on it. We disagree for the most part. To me the transcripts create a contradiction with testimony. Three times it is mentioned that he wanted the stairs lowered in flight. What I wonder is if Cooper wanted the door open (plane was not pressurized), stairs open, but not locked. That’s what I lean towards. Having bomb bay or air doors open in flight is not uncommon. The skydivers have seen it, I’ve had it skydiving and in helicopters, but of course not a 727. Fly had shown some good info a while back on 727 flight testing, R99 too showed a magazine, I had found a few things in Jane’s and other resources. Chris B posted some good info too. The super secret operation of the aft stairs is one of those “primacy” effects and to me not very logical. It sounds fun to say Cooper was CIA in Nam, but is it realistic?
  4. A 55 minute video is a bit of a non starter for me, unless it’s an exciting subject. I watched a total of about 30 seconds and fast forwarded to the part where I saw Truman Capote’s book next to Gunther’s. I don’t see the resemblance in the books. The art is different, the fonts, the colors, the writing, the plot, etc. OP has a history of making fantastic statements. I get a kick out of a modern day “author” who is mainly self published on Amazon critiquing a man who was a novelist and author in the 60s, 70s, and 80s when there were actually barriers to entry to being published. Today you can literally fire up MS Word, and upload a copy of a “book” and Amazon will print and distribute it. I can’t see comparing books on psych issues to those written by a novelist who was also an editor and contributor to many magazines. Not to downplay any disability, but this is not justification to bash Gunther by comparing genres. He might be better suited to what he knows best. What I really get a kick out of are the discussions on other sites about Gunther’s credibility. This coming from people whose academic and intellectual credentials don’t really warrant their criticism of man who went to Princeton and wrote maybe 10 books and was routinely published in legit magazines, not just True and Playboy. One post I read was questioning whether Clara contacted anyone else. Gunther made it clear that Mark Penzer and Ed Kuhn were contacted. Why would Gunther lie about that in his book? It’s not like they were beer drinking buddies in Connecticut. No good author is going to let someone use their name like that. And of course Clara is going to get things wrong. She got it second hand. Also, why tell the whole story and get caught? I give it about a 1% chance that Gunther made this up. And that’s more that he made up parts and not the whole thing. When people just post in an echo chamber, they are never checked on their theories. That’s why they don’t post on DZ, because here you actually might get pushback from people who have been on the case a long time like Fly, R99, Martin, or Georger.
  5. One way Max Gunther’s book has been criticized is that Gunther got a couple of things wrong. One of the main ones is that Clara claimed the Captain came back to talk to Cooper. We know this did not happen, but we do know that Cooper did talk to the cockpit. Clara was clearly a female and talked to Gunther for the first time in 1982, and was relaying the story secondhand. It is not a big leap to think she got a few things wrong, some maybe on purpose, and certainly made up enough to throw people off about her true identity, but keeping enough to keep the story real. I have four possible hypotheses on who Clara and Dan were. 1. Max made it up. 2. It was Dan Clair and his wife. 3. It was William Smith and his wife. 4. It was Dan and William together. This little blurb about Detroit, Michigan could possibly be connected to a woman named Valeria who was buried with William and his wife. A non relative buried in the family plot would indicate a close connection.
  6. The tie bar had gold in it right? What other elements?
  7. Unfortunately we are back where we started on the tie. The issue is that now the evidentiary value of it has been questioned so much that it is really a rabbit hole. I guess you could make it be anything you want. Assuming it was Cooper’s or someone close to him, we can still assume that he was a blue collar worker or in a metals type plant. The FBI called him high school educated. He was clearly bright. In the end it may be that the DNA is the only thing of true value. When we have very little evidence in the case, the tie becomes a family heirloom and is held onto as a reminder.
  8. We have open and extended, two different things. I guess locked too. I’d want them open but not necessarily locked. Flying at 10,000 feet would still make it possible to extend and lock in flight.
  9. If you’re going off what is in the record, then I 100% agree this is what was in there. Three times.
  10. I’m guessing they never did a side view or standing? Or got comments on the top of his head? Only thing I heard was that recently Alice said he had good hair on top.
  11. This conversation from a couple of weeks ago indicates that a number of witnesses had issues with the A sketch. Farrell may have made a mistake. But I feel like it is a jump to say there would have been no B sketch because of it. Also, some sketch artists if not all are trained to help witnesses remember details and to tease out little tidbits and build the sketch piece by piece. I have to assume the FBI knew that memories fade, and figured that into things. They believed the B sketch was the better representation. Whether Farrell made a mistake or not does not change that in my mind. If someone likes A, they are going against what the FBI truly believed. Do we know something the FBI doesn’t know? I don’t think so.
  12. Let’s go to the A sketch. Bing. Prior to the B sketch starting to be made, how many witnesses do we have commenting on the A sketch? Witnesses/passengers/stews. Not getting into who is a better witness. What do we have? Even a Nancy House who could not help would have some input I hope. If I showed her a pic of OJ Simpson she would at least say it’s not him. I hope.
  13. Weird that she goes from KK5-1 to Bing. Very different people. Maybe she was just all out of sorts from the hijacking. That's the Vortex. One thing we can agree on is that wwe may never all agree. I'd love to see some DNA come back and see how everyone argues about that. :) I hope I'm still alive.
  14. But in May of 1972 the A sketch was readily available. I'm not seeing this the same way as you are, so I guess I'm the same as Flyjack. I don't see the checkmate. Can you comment on the pictures I posted? If Flo liked KK5-1, then why stick with the A sketch and not do the B sketch? Wouldn't her picking out KK5-1 lead them to do a new sketch and not necessarily her not liking the initial? In Flyjack's defense, there has been some shady stuff going on the past year, mainly with Vordahl. So to think there is an agenda is not some off the wall thought. I've stated that I think you've distanced yourself from the Vordhal stuff, but to be blunt, you were kind of Nicky's handler for a long time, and what he did reflected on you. You'll break out of that with your non-fiction book, but it is what it is. There are still fake FB accounts out there, and people joining groups twice. I'm finding it best to be careful about who I team up with.
  15. Good info. What has added to my interest is the introduction of some of the pictures and ID kit. The KK that Flo picked out..did any other witnesses like that one? If Flo didn't like the initial, but liked Bing, yet she picked out the ID kit picture, wouldn't that in itself discount the A sketch? The kit pic looks nothing like the A, granted it does not look like B either. But B at least looks like a person.
  16. What is the timeline on this latest sketch discussion? Initial sketch done. I call it the Cliff Robertson or Bruce Greenwood for my own memory. Flo doesn’t like it and others. Flo asks to do a ID kit. She likes the pic made from the kit. When is Rose doing the Bing A? While Flo and Farrell are working together on the kit? Rose does the Cary Grant/James Bond/Dean Martin when? Why not just age and darken the initial? Why not do the same with Bing? The initial and the A were within days of eachother. When was B started? We know the finish date. Was A going on concurrently with B? I don’t think so. So why doesn’t Rose know that his A was ok supposedly? Wouldn’t he have asked that? I understand that memories close to the event are usually better, but even that discussion has its faults in that people love to say that people in crimes don’t remember. But some do. And there are a number of times we’ve used recent testimony as more gospel than old (Mitchell saying that he looked old and it was not really a skin anomaly). Yet in his 302 he indicates it was more than just an old guy. I don’t see sketches as the same thing as “what color was his hat” “what type of gun” etc. The sketches were a constantly adapting process. OleMiss you have been doing good research and I like talking sketches more than flight path. My rub with a number of folks to include EU and Colbert (not you) is that they use the sketch they like that looks like a random pic of their guy cropped and in black and white or poor quality and then put those side by side. I can do that with anyone. I can show people my old IDs like military or concealed carry and no one would recognize me, even I don’t. There is just so much going on with the witness testimony to get anything perfect. There is a lot going on with people trying to muddy the waters on the flight path, and I’d rather not see that happenwith the sketches if possible. Some of it is going on already with the green eyes of Jude to make it seem that Cooper did not have dark eyes. The FBI liked the B and it is 50 years later. Seems like the burden of proof is on those to disprove B and if B is put in question, then prove A or initial. I’m not buying that one mistake by one agent on a huge case would lead down the path that the main sketch was all wrong. Bing looks nothing like the KK. Bing looks like an alien or AI.
  17. Are these pics of Catalano, Cooper, and Murphy in the 302s or are these scraped from the web? Are all of these 302s in one Vault release?
  18. What are your thoughts on the Spreckel sketch? It seems very close to the Bing Crosby. Did he just agree with the others or independently come up with that? I don't think I ever saw this one. Good find.
  19. Olemiss. Do you have the names for these redactions starting on page 24? All the talk about narrow or wider etc gets confusing in that they don’t say “make it wider by 2 centimeters” etc. It would be quite an undertaking, but it would be interesting to see a pictorial of what witness said what off of what sketch and if we knew what they meant by narrow wider etc or had the actual ID kit or Nat Geo pics as reference too. One could argue many points on these sketches given the lack of agreement. Some say Mitchell’s does not count or Flo’s because she was stressed or Tina’s because she claims she only saw him head on, and only with sunglasses. I can say that the other day playing poker, this guy took off his sunglasses and looked totally different. He was middle aged. This seems like a good undertaking to pursue. https://dbcooperhijack.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Various-Witness-Descriptions-2.pdf
  20. I was referring to a news article about a bed sheet that was DB Cooper’s that he used as a batwing to fly to Tina Bar and then bury the money with it.
  21. What if something else was wrapped around the bag, acting as a double filter, say something like a bed sheet?
  22. What is the chemical makeup of silt? Silt is a term we’ve probably all used, but diatoms not so much until a year or two ago.
  23. Interesting, I'll have to see the presentation. Do you know if it was filmed? I may email Tom for the PowerPoint. Didn't the Ingrams use dish soap to wash the bills? Please don't tell me this will perpetuate the "buried the night of the jump" theory.
  24. If they say it was underwater the week before then that is huge. That Leonard Nimoy show happening a few weeks before is unusual.
