South Florida is super hot and muggy for most of the year. The rest of FL is just hot and muggy. You can jump all year long, the hurricanes aren't that bad. We went about ten years in between really bad hurricanes. The summers are pretty dreadful when you have all of your gear on, not gonna lie. Most people tend to get up early to get a few jumps in, and then stop in the afternoon to go do water sports or to just go inside. You'll get afternoon storms on most summer days, but sometimes they only last for about 20 minutes before they pass. As others have said, you'll get more bang for your buck if you stay in Central FL because there are so many dropzones within a few hours drive. Check out the area that I-4 goes across the state, and focus on the towns that fan out from there. The east coast is more old school, the west coast a little more upper crust. Buy a rig. There's so much more to the sport than the freefall. IMO, learning to fly your canopy is most important for you right now. If you're spending money at the tunnel and on rental fees, you're taking money away from being able to jump and learning to fly. In addition, just spending time hanging out at the dz will allow you to make better friendships, find people to jump with and you'll be able to absorb information from your elders in the sport. He may be cool in person, but he has a real disrespect for fellow jumpers who volunteer their free time to the skydiving community on this website. Instead of being able to joke around with fellow jumpers, welcome them to the sport, offer gear and safety advice, and discuss incidents, the Mods have to spend their time cleaning up his childish and ridiculous pranks. If you had ever met Hal, you met a friend. He had an easy smile, laid-back personality, treated everyone with respect and wore the rattiest hat you've ever seen! He was one of the good guys, and will be sorely missed by all. Hal fought an exceptional fight after experiencing injuries from a hard landing while jumping in Eloy a few weeks ago, but has passed on.
