  1. Hey guys I'm a full time cameraman at boston providence skydiving center, i use tv 500, 350 if it cloudy with 100 speed film, i have a sigma 24mm and set it at 4 ft, i get really nice pics this way. hope this helps Gary Harbird
  2. do you have a copy of the manual, is there anyway you can email it to me
  3. Does anyone know what type of battery a timeout evolution uses and where i could get one? Thanks Gary Harbird
  4. Hey guys Well since it was me who had the chop i will tell you my version. Rolled over from a tandem video and throw out at about 3500, canopy started to open and the went to the left, the spin started and the g's stopped me from being able to get my arm up to the toggle, the line twists were under the slider with the risers rapped around my neck pinning my head back. (not to comfortable) So cutaway which took two hands and yes i do have the anti twist housing from javelin, and deployed my reserve. i cutway at 1800 and was sitting under my reserve by 1500 ft. I have had break fires before, but this one just went faster than i could catch it. Gary Harbird
  5. Actually there were 34 competitors in the open division
  6. Anyone know the results from the Red bull swoop contest in maine??
  7. I would have to disagree with you on the live of the vectran lines, it all depends on the conditions of the dropzone, in florida my vectran lines last a little over 300 jumps and up north they last about another 100 jumps, i took vectran a little over 400 jumps and have a steering line break just below the cascade on opening, so after that i reline at about 300-400 jumps now. 8. Sorry to here that. PD ALL THE WAY, i ordered 2 velocities and pd told me 12 weeks, 12 weeks to the day the ups man gave me a box full of goodies including 2 velocities, their service was awesome. Back to icarus, before i was jumping a fx104, sent that to icarus and it took 4 months just to get the thing relined, I did get a letter explaining about how they were backed up, it was at the time they were having problems with the original crossfire. But still after that i vowed that i would always go with PD. They have the best customer service. Hope you enjoy you crossfire, and good luck with icarus. Blueskies Gary Harbird
  9. Hi Alun After looking at your profile i would recommend accumulating a few more jumps before doing a balloon jump. I have several balloon jumps and the problem with them is that the landing area can be anywhere, due to the balloon not having a engine you are subject to the wind, I have 4 balloon jumps and have never landing on an airfield always in some field in the countryside, this brings up the problem of terrain and that judging hills and slopes from under canopy can be difficult, also the are other obstacles such as wires and fences which you can't really see until you are right on top of them. Heres my advise, wait get a couple hundred jumps and then go make a balloon jump, they are always gonna be around. Safe jumps and blue skies if you have anymore questions pm me Gary Harbird
  10. Started 4 years ago in england when i was 16, Jump in the states now. have 1900 jumps
  11. Thanks everyone The cypres's will be staying in then Gary Harbird
  12. I have a velocity 84 loaded @ 2.3 This was first brought up by a friend and i was wanting some advise. A cypres fires at 78mph and a pro ditter goes of at 70mph, My friend Ian told me that he could set his ditter off under canopy and he jumps a 96 loaded at 2.0. So i borrowed a friends pro ditter and jumped it, i was surpised how easierly i could set it off. So what i want to know is who jumps with a cypres and what canopy and wing loading are you flying? Because 8mph isn't much of a buffer, and hell i don't want 2 canopies out. Also does anyone know of any instances of cypres's fire because of small canopies decending to fast? Thanks Gary Harbird
  13. I Used to pack for a 4 way team who did back to backs out of a super otter so i guess 3-4 minutes Gary Harbird
  14. Hey guys PD have updated there website, they now have some team swoops (4ways) 1 Outstanding video called flight 1 splitter. Check it out www.performancedesigns.com/pdzone/videosf1.asp Just shows how much we still have to learn Gary Harbird
  15. I have 2 velocity 84s which i ordered last winter. When i ordered them i weighed 145 giving me a wing loading of 2.0, during the winter i joined the gym and gained 20 lbs and now fly with a wing loading of 2.3. I work fulltime as a cameraman, and i am really enjoying the canopies, getting back from long spots has not been a problem. I was wondering what wing loading people are flying? And at what wing loading you start to sacrifice distance for speed ? Thanks guys Gary Harbird
  16. About a year ago i went on a couple of tracking jumps by myself with just a protrack. I did 1 jump in shorts and tshirt, and 1 in a freefly suit. My results where, Shorts and tshirt 1st half average 106mph, 2nd half average 99mph. Freefly suit 1st half average 98mph 2nd half average 92mph. I'm 5'11 and weigh 165lb So to answer your question yes a flat track does slow your vertical speed. Gary Harbird
  17. Who hooked the canopy up? Was it a rigger? Who Packed it? some one f*^ked up Am interested to know what went wrong? Gary Harbird
  18. Hi I don't know much about Stong reserves or canopies. I am a PD man I have 2 106R and 2 velocity 84s. I go for PD because the put the most research and testing in to there canopies. Go to deland and there are multiple people test jumping for PD, all of the time. So I would recommend a PD reserve, if you can't afford a new one, there are plenty of second hand ones going around. 19. My mums boyfriend nearly lost his ear after a riser almost ripped it off on opening. The doctors were able to stich it back up, and he was ok. So yes I think helmets are a good idea Gary Harbird
  20. I didn't take a canopy control class, when I was learning too swoop, high performance canopy flight schools where almost unheard of. I was lucky when I was learning, scared myself a few times but never hit the ground. But I recommend it too anyone who is wanting to learn high performance landings. I have several friends who have attended Scott Millers class and they highly recommend it. Remember knowledge is are friend in this sport, don't be afraid to ask. Gary Harbird
