AFF level 3 goes wrong! Rate this instructor!
ghostdog replied to ghostdog's topic in Safety and Training
He couldn't find the pilot chute handle -
Got this video from a friend and it was his AFF level 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHU20nCXdiU What do you think about his instructor?! I told him to never jump with this instructor again

I have a related question. I keep having cross landing. I try my best to adjust my direction but most of times I land towards my right hand. Could it be an issue with my lines or leg strap?
-
Same here with my Sabre 2 never had hard opening when a rigger packed for me. has some semi-hard openings when packed by myself. I assume it's just a packing issue not Sabre 2

Why not paragliding?

Jump #37 - Hop’nPop Double Malfunction *No Cutaway*
ghostdog replied to raphaelistics's topic in Safety and Training
Just a note from me, you mentioned that you checked your altitude only one time when you cleared the line twist right? Others can correct me but since I have line twists in half of my jumps(due to bad packing), the first thing that I do when I see a malfunction (and every 5 sec after that) is checking my altitude not to miss my decision altitude. -
I started practicing, it's all good at home because I have more time, less stress and I'm not tired. But after a jump at DZ, it's more difficult to pack due to lack of energy and time and ... Not an issue, I think it'll be okay after a while. My current issue is about my packing technique. I have line twists almost in every single opening. Never have a twist when a rigger packs it, so parachute is good, it's me. Is it dangerous? Should I stop packing until I fix the problem or I can pack and jump until I found what's wrong with my packing?

You're talking about Roll packing technique right?

No opportunity to learn to pack
ghostdog replied to Anonymous4697's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i'm in the same boat AND I have a brand new sabre 170 which is a big headache to pack. I'm practicing at home, at least pack 2 times every week at home and watching tons of videos. Just bought Monkey Packer from Amazon. Not sure how it helps but will try it this weekend to see the result. -
I took the pack training and learned how to pack and jumped with it. Next week, I forgot everything and needed some help to pack and happened again. What's the best way to practice packing? Should I unpack my chute and keep packing over and over at home without someone to tell me my mistakes? Should I just pack and jump under supervision for a while? Any useful source (not youtube videos, those are confusing) that I learn the theories better? my issue is mostly recognizing Ds, Cs, Bs, .... from each other.

I mean definition of danger is different for people. If you ride a motorbike, specifically superbike, skydiving is a safe sport for you. -- but tbh, life is just a numbers game. There's a chance of fatality in every single activity you can imagine. It's just trying to reduce the chance of it by following the safety instructions. Same scenario in driving, riding, swimming in a pool, walking to the shopping mall, etc. At the end of the day, skydiving is slightly more dangerous!!

Isn't it what you were waiting the entire winter? Just remember those beautiful seconds flying and relax

How long should it take to get on a load?
ghostdog replied to ColoradoJones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
wow! I think students have the highest priority to use rental rigs and get into loads at least in my home dz! and we have only one 182! Although I remember I waited 6h to jump in my AFF and it was bcs of the wind! and I was happy that my instructor really cares about my safety. "(I paid for all my A license courses in full with cash)" > It could be the reason they don't care about you! you already paid. Talk to DZO and explain the situation. Ask for a refund if it didn't go well. -
I have insurance(Aetna) through my job benefits and I couldn't find anything that excludes skydiving in any document. So I assume they cover it.

completing my AFF in May where to go?
ghostdog replied to Mickey Dee's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Keep cost down? California? Wrong place dude. I just moved from California to Texas and I'm enjoying my low cost life like never before now! -
How fit/strong do I need to be for skydiving?
ghostdog replied to zifkid773's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nope, Skydive Hogwarts -
I just bought a jumpsuit from a nice jumper in France and he shipped it to Texas for me by La Poste and USPS. It was a nightmare for me. La Poste lost the package and we were looking for it for 20 days. It arrived after 35 days at the end but we were hopeless. USPS does a great job in tracking when it arrived in US, but I'm not gonna buy anything from out of US anymore

ghostdog replied to zifkid773's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
80% of the jumpers in my dz are nerds. you should be mentally ready. you don't need muscle -
I switched to 170 in my 15th jump and I did so much better than before. It was just easier to handle and land. Used to jump with 210 and 200 I'm 152lb(69kg) PS: My instructor recommended 170.

I'm a few jumps away from my A license. Why should I go and try other drop zones and what should I do there in the first jump in a new drop zone?
-
Let me tell you something I work for a big IT company. We hire non-US residents regularly. We have a team of 10 Visa/HR specialists who are in charge of Visa stuff for the non-US residents. How many DZ you know that can afford 1 full time HR staff?

Thanks buddy, I graduated AFF last week and tomorrow will do my first solo jump, on the road to Licence A! Kinda learned how to fly with minimum arch

New heavy jumper wing loading and when to buy gear
ghostdog replied to psykx's topic in Safety and Training
I'm thinking to buy gear too. The argument about buying new vs old is if I buy new gear I can sell it and get back at least half of the cost too right? So let's say paying 7k for brand new gear, sell it after 200 jumps and get back 3.5k-4k vs paying 4k for used gear, jump 200 times and then can I re-sell it to someone again? for like 1k? if so, I pay extra 0.5k~1k for buying new gear. kinda worth it right? -
Thanks guys for responses. yea as you guys said the goal is to be stable, it's gonna be harder with a bad arch and f*cked up back but possible for sure. I've done my level 4 and 5 successfully and believe me or not even with a bad arch I can fly and have the situation in control. I think the problem that I have right now is my legs that I keep forgetting about. but passed anyways! extremely happy about it and ready to get this aff done next week. you can see it clearly in my jumps I guess level 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dezgQME068 level 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJuxQ2VPgjE one more thing, more I jump more my back hurts and less I can arch. level 5 is after level 4 and you can see I'm not able to arch even as much as level 4
