  1. Jack the Hammer is dead...it's just difficult to believe...he taught me to skydive and he helped me to get my AFF rating and my Pro Rating...he may have lived in his own world at times....but he had a lot of good ways about him. After he broke his back in a tandem accident (that was not his fault...his body building student put the brakes on early and held it down until the canopy collapsed) he was just not the same person....but now he's dead...it's over... 2. I miss Lee so much...He was always picking on me (not like no one else picks on me) but he did it in a way that made me laugh. I thought it was so cool how he said my name "Kerry". After I got slammed to the ground by the wind and busted up my back a bit, he told everyone, "Ha! Karries teaching everyone how to land a canopy!" *smile* I sure hope they can nail the real perpetrator of this tragic and terrible crime!!! 3. Hmmmm or is it...how about we talk about the issues at hand here like setting up a pattern for accuracy, learning to make flat turns to avoid objects I'm just happy to see someone actually talking about learning to do flat turns. I talk to students all the time that have a number of jumps off AFF student status and they know nothing about breaked turns or flat turns. This can save your life! ------------ We take risk not to escape life, but to keep life from escaping._______________________ It is noble to teach oneself; it is still nobler to teach others. 5. Be careful Randy you'll upset Mike to the G. Don't you realize that this is skydiving and you can't joke around about other dropzones!! Man! What were you thinking??!! -------- We take risk not to escape life, but to keep life from escaping._______________________ It is noble to teach oneself; it is still nobler to teach others. 6. Damn Christians, is right. Thought has created the technology that we have in this sport, along with a long list of other things. The fact is that thought has created, invented all the religions throughout the world. This withstands any argument. It's not the cats that are evil, it is the orthodox religions. This energy behind all life is the cosmos, and has nothing to do with religion. ---------------------- We take risk not to escape life, but to keep life from escaping._______________________ It is noble to teach oneself; it is still nobler to teach others. 8. I think Ted went off the deep end a little with his statements, but I tend to agree with the essence of what he is saying. Fox News is a Christian based news network and is based on belief in this concept of religion. I'm a simple man and I base my beliefs in things of reality. Fox News definitely propagates a lot of nonsense and Ted is right about the fact that bigger does not mean better. I never cared much for CNN either really. 9. are you out of your rabbit ass fucking mind we skydive because we very much have a life wish ---------- First of all let me simply point out that all religions are created and invented by thought. Has it ever occurred to you that your belief system is nothing more, in truth, than a bunch of thought created nonsense? I will tell you that if it works for you and makes you happy, then that is your affair. I had a chance to do a skydive in 1980, but I chose not to because, being of an engineering background, I felt that the technology would get safer as time went on. I had done several other extreme sports, like cliff diving, snow skiing, repelling, racing motorcycles, and jumping the ramp on water skies, and rock climbing. I did not want to do a skydive until I felt confident in the technology and I then felt that I would have control over my destiny. The fact is I am a sober individual and I always wanted to fly and have had many dreams about flying. I was finally asked if I wanted to do a skydive by a friend of mine that happens to believe in these Christian beliefs, and, by the way, was afraid of heights. In fact he would not even jump off a 25 foot cliff into the water after many attempts to try to get him to do so (by his own wish). I finally got to fly (skydive) in September of 2001 and I have done over 2100 skydives since. My friend did one tandem skydive and never returned, mainly because of money. I am now an Accelerated Freefall Instructor and have a PRO Demonstration rating. Skydiving is in fact one of the safest sports that I have ever done, and all other extreme sports tend to make me nervous. You should consider the possibility that it is possible to exit a plane and fly through the air like a bird without a single movement of thought, and to go beyond "self" while doing it. This simple means that there is no ego functioning on the skydive. Therefore "you" are gone. This is the true joy of a skydive...

    ISIA

Uncle Don has a great concept going here. It is ridiculous to have this thing going the way it is set up. There is so little difference in the teaching criteria in this sport in the different countries that this needs and should be addressed. What little differences there are could be dealt with specifically, such as cloud clearance rules for example. I think something also needs to be addressed in the area of licenses. I had the experience of helping a girl from another country that had a D license and over 600 skydives, yet she was having to start over and go though the A license for the USPA and get everything signed off again. This does not make much sense to me. Why not just deal with the specific differences in information and have them learn this, with maybe a review of what they already have learned and know. ISIA makes nothing but good common sense, where the other scenario has many things to question. 15. Somehow the pain of the injuries has not exceeded the rush of the dive. There's also the fact that I don't have health insurance. Probably in the Spring. I'm in no hurry. Plus I get all that time to learn so much from everyone else's mistakes. Heidi-Ho www.skydivethefarm.com That is a good plan. You can learn from the mistakes of others and from what others do right. The Spring will be a good time to jump--Blue skies and warm weather. I don't think you will need your health insurance though...cause you aren't going to get hurt. --------------------- We take risk not to escape life, but to keep life from escaping._______________________ It is noble to teach oneself; it is still nobler to teach others.
