I looked through the calender of events for Skydive Chicago, Chicagoland Skydiving Center and Sky Knights and put together what seemed to be the best schedule for people from all dropzones. Saturday, May 17th Saturday, June 21st Saturday, July 12th Saturday, August 9th As most of you already know, you have to compete in at least three meets to qualify for the CPC Nationals at Mile Hi. I thought it would be a good idea to schedule four meets so that everyone has a chance to qualify if they can't make one of the comps. If we are weathered out on the scheduled day of competition we can make it up the next day (Sunday). If anyone would like the schedule changed for whatever reason, now is the time to speak up. If everbody is fine with the schedule I'll give it to Rook next week so that he can update SDC's calender of events. John Z

To those wanting to compete in the CPC in Illinois this year: Scott "Drew" Hickok, our district organizer for the last several years, has decided to step down. If anyone else would like to take over the position we could really use your help. In the event nobody steps up to the job, I am willing to organize a CPC schedule in which all meets will be held over the pond at Skydive Chicago. I have a busy year organizing Swoppp Club, flying camera and running another business otherwise I'd gladly offer to hold meets at other area dropzones. We've only got about 6 weeks until what should be the start of our season, so we need to get this figured out. Also, if you plan on competing please respond to this thread so that I can get an idea as to who will be competing this season... Peace... John Z

Did PD release the new competition Velocity? I heard that it was supposed to be introduced at the PIA this year.

Although it's not as much fun, I tend to do better in competition than most when the winds are high or difficult to negotiate. Into the wind, cross wind, down wind... whatever. It doesn't bother me too much. I've competed in winds that were much higher than 14 knots, and things got kind of dangerous for many of the competitors. 14 knots seems to be a good number in my opinion.

Why doesn't dropzone.com just delete this guy's account so he can't try to rip us off? Or do you just figure that he's too stupid to look at the forums to figure out that we're on to him? -

I've been on to this as a scammer for a few weeks and I just wanted to see if a check actually showed up in the mail... So far nothing yet. Here's a copy of our e-mail conversation: Phillip, I have another buyer. Besides all that, I just noticed that you are on the "Security and Scams Alerts" forum on dropzone.com and quite frankly, I think that you might be full of shit. If you are in the business of scamming people, you might want to get your shit together and move things along a lot quicker to get it over with before people catch on to your bullshit. If a check from you does finally show up, I will authenticate it through my bank and if it is fraudulant I will forward it to the proper authorities. Thank you very much for wasting my time in selling this canopy... FUCK OFF ASSHOLE! Sincerely, John Zagoda P.S. If you are actually are a skydiver, I hope that you bounce while jumping gear that you stole from somebody. philip sidney wrote: Good day Am very sorry for all the delay and the inconvenience i may have caused you since the beginning of this transaction.....I really appreciate your effort by holding on to it ... The only flaws on the canopy are two very small pin holes on the center cell of the tail. They have been there for over 200 jumps and haven't gotten any worse, so I haven't seen a need to repair them. Besides that the canopy is perfect. The only reason I'm selling it is to buy a slightly smaller one. I will send a picture of the two pin holes I mentioned later this week. The canopy is in my rig that is an hour away from me and I won't have a chance to get it for a couple days. The RDS is the best that you can get. If you really want performance I strongly recommend using an RDS with the JVX... It flies like a completely different canopy. I am fine with certified bank check or money order. I would have to get an estimated cost for shipping before you would send payment. I have several others interested in the canopy, but nobody committed. A friend of mine here at Skydive Chicago went through out AFP program last year. He's at least 6'4" and definitely over 250 lbs. His brother is a tandem and AFP instructor here and took him on his tandems and first few AFP jumps and everything was cool. Unfortunately the "big guy" I'm talking about had some serious heart problems that required open heart surgery and is not likely going to be able to continue skydiving. He has a really nice big boy Vector rig with canopies for sale that are all less than a year old. If you do decide to get into the sport I can put you in contact with him. You'd probably save big money by buying the rig from him.

USPA Nationals - Canopy Piloting Question...

Thanks... That answered the events and rules part of my question... Can anyone tell me if it's all one class at the USPA Nationals, or is there "Intermediate" and "Open" classes or whatever? -
USPA Nationals - Canopy Piloting Question...
JohnnyZ replied to JohnnyZ's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've never been to nationals before and I was wondering where I could find info on the classes, rules and events included in the canopy piloting comp. I looked on both the 2007 Nationals page and the USPA page and I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Can someone help me out here? -
I went with the HC5. I got one for $703 delivered on E-Bay. That was an unusually cheap deal, but you can get them all day long for just over $800.

Shameless plug for Joe B. & MEL.
JohnnyZ replied to diablopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
If you guys are looking for an alternative, Kirk at Para-Concepts (Skydive Chicago's gear store) did a great job installing HMA's on my JVX and my Velocity... And it took him only 2 or 3 days on both occasions. He's making RDS's too. I wouldn't deal with the b.s. that it sounds like you guys are going through. Do what you say you're gonna do... That is, if you want to stay in business very long! -
Round two of the Illinois CPC is Saturday, May 12th at Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Hinkley, IL. We're gonna try to start at 9:00 am, so get there early enough to register and sign your waivers and all that good stuff. Let's hope that the winds are better than they were for the first comp at SDC!

I just picked up a new HC5. I've got a Liquid .29 lens on it and I'm just wondering what you guys recommend for the camera's settings...
-
Why are you so opposed to a top mount? I just got a brand new HC5 on E-Bay for $703 delivered (They're $1099 at all of the big electronics stores). 1080I video on mini DV tape and 4.0 megapixil stills.... And its small and lightweight. In my opinion, top mounting a camera the size of an HC5 is safer than side mounting a PC1000 in regards to snagging a riser or other potential what-ifs.
-
I used to have a Diamond .30 lens and it was great. I just got a Liquid .29 which seems very similar to the Diamond and is considerably cheaper. The workmanship of the Liquid looks to be as good or better than the Diamond. Look at the following link to see how the different lens sizes compare... http://www.cookiecomposites.com/shop/Accessories/8/index.htm I recommend the .29 (or .30) for starting out. You'll get better footage of the jumps where you're "in the skydive", but you'll have to learn to be close when you're doing outside video.

The first Illinois CPC meet is Saturday, April 28th at Skydive Chicago. The course will be set up by 8:00 am and first round will take off at 9:00 am. The more competitors we have the better it will be... So come out and swoop!
-
I know that Para Concepts (The gear store/rigging loft at Skydive Chicago) is the Icarus service center. They did the reline on my JVX (with comp HMA) and it was perfect. They know their stuff. They're also making a very nice RDS that a lot of swoopers are buying.
-
If I were you, I'd strongly consider getting a top mount. Sony isn't making anything really suited to side-mount anymore, and who knows if they will again. You'd be stuck buying a used PC and if you ever decide to upgrade & go top mount you will be stuck with a nice helmet with holes poked in the side of it.
-
I've got one of those boxes on order. There's not too many Cookie dealers in the U.S. I was able to get Para Concepts (the gear store at Skydive Chicago) to become a new dealer. (They were mostly interested because Cookie makes the Liquid lenses. The Diamond lenses have become a pain in the ass to get these days, and the Liquid lenses are just as good.)
-
It seems that side-mount cameras are becoming a thing of the past. Sony, to my knowledge, doesn't produce anything that is suited for side mount anymore. I'm in the process of putting together a new setup with a Sony HC5. It's a high definition camera that records on Mini DV tape. You can find them online for about $800, but they're usually $1099 in most of the big electronic stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.)

Sony PC330... What's one worth these days?
JohnnyZ replied to JohnnyZ's topic in Photography and Video
Screw it... I was just out bid by someone and I don't really need it, so if anyone is interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:ONA:US:11&Item=200090410211 It's at $306 right now, and the austion ends today. -
Sony PC330... What's one worth these days?
JohnnyZ replied to JohnnyZ's topic in Photography and Video
I've got an opportunity to buy a "like new" PC330. I don't really need it, but I know it's a really nice camera that I can resell... So, are they still in demand? -
I'm putting together a new camera helmet. I'm going to have a Sony HC5 in a Cookie HC5/7 Black Box. I'd like to get a Cookie MXV, but I'm wondering if I'd have to get the Liquid Flatlock with the adaptor plate for the MXV to make it work. I don't need the box to have a quick release and I'd rather not have to spend over $130 extra for stuff I don't need... So I'm wondering if anyone out there knows if the MXV is suitable for direct mounting the HC5/7 box, or would I be better off just getting the Bonehead Optik because of its long & flat top surface?
