I recommend you personally asses the student and let them know you will need to seek guidance and assistance in the jump. Once you have assessed them then you will have a better idea of their limitations and needs are. Then you can seek the best solution for their jump. Pivot pad double with gopro4 blacks video on top stills every second on bottom. I have shot more than 5000 handy cams and this is the best set up I have found. It works its not in the way and easy to operate. After several years and thousands of jumps with gopro 2s last year I upgraded to 4+blacks and I can tell you the difference in color and The superwide changes the game on handycam. I used Chris warnick s swivel glove and love it. Evendors at $1000 for the new setup it payed for itself in shot order aND the eND product was well wOrth the expense. Sounds like 2 different issues if I'm reading correctly. The first being the drogue release bunji has broken maybe prior but atleast during this deployment. This might have been caught in a good pre jump inspection. The main bag and drogue departing on deployment is the second and hard to catch prior to deployment al though is sounds like the general condition of the gear might have been a clue. What in your opinion is the purpose of the student wearing a helmet? Im just curious... I personally dont like them on the student. We use soft helmets to protect the instructor and not the student... no real protection for either in my opinion. I have a few tandems and have yet to have an issue with my students head, They can hear me better with no softie under canopy and I can hear them better as well. I guess there are instances where helmets have protected instructors from head injuries maybe from a wing or hand rail or something but not from the students Ive just never had an issue.... so far... knock on wood. Hog Wash. Seems to me you want the USPA to hold only tandem instructors to this high level of moral conduct and not the rest of the instructor community. That is total Bullshoot. As it stands all other instructors can do all the drinking and and drugging and having as many dui's and drug convictions as they want with no opposition from USPA. USPA is operating under Selective and discriminatory practices where this is concerned. Also by mandating the medical they are moving into a regulatory position which they firmly state they are not. I only know of one Tandem fatality where the TI may have been less than sober and he was not drinking. Seems to me Pot is acceptable on many dz's around the country and no one has determined a legal limit or time frame for THC use in instructors.
