Man, what a busy body you are. The thread is about the holding area. You move it down to the pattern. Then you talk about stuff at 300-100 feet. Then you talk about people coming out of their hooks, which could be 50-5 feet. Would you like to divert the discussion to talk about turbulence in the stratosphere too? Winds on Mars? There is another concern about spiraling in the pattern, even when your alone. You are more susceptible to wind shear and those other unseen turbulence hazards. Not only does turbulence exist downstream from ground objects and buildings, it also exists above these same structures. And of course thermals as well. While most reasonable DZ's BAN Hooking in, many of these types like to do a flash hook at a slightly highr than landing altitude, more than a few have paid the price for a flashy hook at or about 100 to 300 feet. As their canopy comes out of the hook it looses pressurization, you get whacked by a bit of turbulence at this point with reduced pressurization, your going in. Just sayin,... Like myself and others have said, most skydivers don't care. Or using a site such as this one, as a perfect example, perhaps the "membershit" numbers are "slightly" exaggerated???? Or perhaps many Tandem passengers are still being "requested" to join the USPA for their one ride? Do a little math and like Fox Mulder you too can see what others chose NOT to see. That there are even less active jumpers than memberships? That's obvious. It doesn't change the fact that most people do not care, they only join USPA because it is required. I disagree, a big percentage join because they are supporting the USPA, which is all we got, BTW. Many of us want the USPA to be accountable to the membership as compared with the idea that the USPA supports business interests. I'd Imagine there is some kind of balance somewhere. But considering the tenuous regulatory position between skydiving and the fact that literarily the FAA has appointed the USPA as a kind of "Straw Boss," many feel the USPA spends more time buttressing it's faux position at the expense of the membership. You should always be purchasing equipment to use for the task at hand. You should NOT, nor should you ever be purchasing equipment for the future. Parachute equipment needs to be properly sized for the 2 parachutes contained within. This is a "fixed" ratio size issue. History has shown that this idea of purchasing a too small container fo the day someone "downsizes" is just absolutely the wrong thing to do. The fit of the equipment needs to match your experience level, your particular body size, and then the 2 parachutes need to be matched to the particular container size. There is no such thing as one size fits all. And your right this causes severe and dangerous gear issues when too small of a body frame , (think girls,) when they use too large gear at the majority of DZs' around the world. Here's sumthing that makes more sense. Seek out and find any leftover rig or make it mandatory to have those cables your speaking about be in hard housings. It really should be a mandated FAA and PIA effort to ground, until any leftovers have been modified to include hard housings for the cutaway cables. Not a debatable point IMO.
