  1. Very good article, would love to see the comparison with the GoPro3 added!
  2. Nice! No big changes planned for now, but feels like coming home anyway! Ramon Rainman
  3. Looks like a book I'd love to read! Any chance of a digital version so that I can read it on my Kindle (epub, mobi, pretty much anything except pdf)? Rainman
  4. :3:0 Finally got around to taking the test for my B license on Friday, and made three very nice FS-3 jumps on Sunday!
  5. I used to have a (foreign) 'magazine only' subscription for about five years until the USPA discontinued that type of subscription last year. The only way to keep receiving Parachutist was to become a full USPA member. Ramon Rainman
  6. You don't see many chinchilla's here in The Netherlands , but according to Wikipedia: HTH, Ramon
  7. FYI: The cartoon you attached is in Dutch Ramon Rainman
  8. I only know Tonto from his direct, no-nonsense, kind and insightful postings on dropzone.com, but he will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Ramon
  9. I am pretty sure that he did not do those jumps with any kind of record in mind, he might have his logbook or something but I'm not sure *I* would count a logbook as backed evidence!.... I'll let him know about this thread and he might 'jump' in! Ramon Rainman
  10. A colleague of mine was a volunteer in the British Armed Forces in the eighties(?). He told me that their group was given a couple of hundred freshly packed parachutes and a tethered balloon to train with for a day. A lot of them didn't really fancy the jumps from 300 ft. and they were 'left' with many many packed rigs begging to be jumped. According to his story, he did over 50 jumps from a balloon in a day. I wasn't there, but the guy is trustworthy and he showed me some pictures (that I currently can't find). Ramon PS: I may have posted something along those lines in January as well... Rainman
  11. Just thought I'd put the link in here, since noone mentioned it yet: Wikipedia on Fulton Recovery System Ramon Rainman
  12. I am very much a newbie here, but on our DZ in the Netherlands we had the opportunity to jump from a 1944 DC3 (Fifi Kate, N47FK). Because the runway at the DZ is not long enough, we took off from a nearby military base, and flew a long climb to arrive over the DZ at about 10000 ft. This long climb gave us a good view of the area where these heroes jumped all those years ago to save our little country. I spent most of the time gazing out of the hole where the door was supposed to be and thinking what it must be like at night, round parachutes, lots of equipment, low altitude and people trying their best to kill you before you land... Your photograph reminds me very much of those jumps. On one of the two jumps I made from Fifi Kate we had an actual veteran accompanying us as an observer. Ramon
  13. From the Ryanair website: [NSFW?] http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/notices.php?notice=060822-ASP-EN I couldn't resist....they posted it, I just link to it Ramon
  14. I second that! Great footage, great quality, great editing and fast delivery. The subtitling and PAL/NTSC dual side DVD are good ideas as well! Thanks!

I'm not a BASE jumper, and not a hardcore gamer, but that's DAMN impressive!! Rainman
  16. You did it again: made coffee come out of my nose, ruined a perfectly good keyboard ;-) This one definitely belongs in the 'Scary stories from the old days' thread with all the other great stories you shared there!!! Ramon Rainman
  17. I *so* second that, even though I was still liquid when most of it happened! Ramon Rainman
  18. That is (as usual for you) a GREAT story! I am so glad you did all that stuff so we don't have to do that anymore!! Blue skies, fishy landings, Ramon Rainman
  19. Definitely Metallica! I saw two of their shows in Holland and both were awesome! btw: that's both 'old' and 'new' Metallica, and the stuff inbetween as well! Ramon Rainman

  22. I spent quite some time reading the Elsinore community forums. The 'Waldo' thing is hilarious, I am thinking of clever ways of introducing this at my home DZ! Rainman

    Base DVD?

Disclaimer: I'm not a BASE jumper. I highly recommend getting Second BASE any way you can, in my opinion walking to Norway would still get you great value for your time! (I live in the Netherlands.) I transferred money to Terje just using the bank account numbers from the Oslo BASE website and got GREAT service, I even got sent a second copy when the first one got lost in the mail! No doubt some mailman is now enjoying this DVD! The DVD itself is *great*, the menus, the music, the editing but most importantly the footage is breathtaking!! Rainman
