  1. You are right Brian Fry, I just reviewed FAR-Part 105 and did not see an opening altitude listed, my mistake. As for the USPAs rules about pack opening, they vary with the jumper's license, with D License holders being the lowest. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  2. Blue Skies "GooManChew", Glad you had a nice balloon jump, I enjoy them and do not think they are lame. Regarding the NPS, doubtful you could use wind drift as a way to avoid prosecution. As for the legalities of balloon jumping in general, licensed balloons have N numbers, are considered aircraft, and hence the FARs apply for intential jumping: TSO'd harness, certified reserve, both main and reserve packed within 120 days, and a pack opening of 1,800 feet. Just curious, were you using BASE rigs or Sky? Of course officer friendly responding would not know the difference. Lastly, I took a balloon flight 3 weeks ago and the pilot landed us in a guy's front yard with not a second of hesitation. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  3. I have mixed feelings about this... As an economist I like the idea of selling these rich guys gear. However, I doubt they will ever be used, and if actually used during a real emergency the user fairing better than staying put. Imagine someone with zero jumps of any kind properly donning the rig, executing a decent exit, deploying, and flying the wing safely to the ground in the midst of an attack with plenty of emergency vehicles on the ground. FYI: My assumptions of middle age & wealthy comes from the usual amount of time and lenght of resume to get a window office with enough altitude to jump from in a high profile building. But what the hell, you gotta like the never give up atitude. "Rage Against the Dying of the Light!" Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  4. Hey Calvin, Thanks for the photo, a master rigger is loaning me a sewing machine so I can practice sewing patches for my rigger's test so maybe I will try to make one. Sorry for the late reply, but the wife and I were on an Alaskan cruise. Nope, not the one that ran aground The fjords up there are beautiful, some are quite tall but it looked like almost nowhere to land except the drink, which is damn cold. 5. Stopped while on vacation and was blown away with a great experience. Check in was quick & easy with the nicest DZO I have ever met. There twin otter got us up fast, the landing area is large, big indoor packing, and the view from the air is amazing. Most of all the jumpers and staff were super cool and real friendly. I was there 5 minutes and already on load 2 doing a 3-way freefly.
  6. Had everything lined up for a sweet chopper ride over some glaciers with the wife and an experienced pilot who was gonna let me hop out at the end. However, today the weather is sh*t!! Wet, cold, cloudy, rainy Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  7. I got a FALCON 300 you can buy for cheap, like $320. It is F-111, Square, has Dacron Lines, and is huge -- but has 9 cells. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  8. Dude, I am disappointed Such an intense tattoo and you drink Coca-Cola... I would have figured battery acid or blood Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  9. I have a spatula tattooed on my arm Hmm, maybe you should try to get Abbie to sponsor you Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  10. Civilian labor unions that work on military bases have a long list of duties that provide a bump in pay. Once such type is "High Pay" which goes up with altitude. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  11. Thanks Bolas & Selbbub78, I appreciate the replys...guess I should have better explained the situation. The wife and I are taking a cruise and two of our ports of call are Juneau & Skagway. Hence different cities or different time periods won't work. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  12. Blue Skies Guys, Looking for a pilot to take me up for a jump so I can put Alaska in my log book. Don't care what type of aircraft or how high, as long as it is above 1,500 feet Thanks for any help or leads. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  13. Thanks Tom. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  14. ...just confirming what I recall from my FJC. Slider up jumps do not use a tailgate because when we pack the slider up, a rubber band is used to keep the slider up until the force of inflation starts to push the slider --- this helps to stage the deployment and reduce the chance of a lineover. Is this basic understanding of slider-up correct? (I pussied out before doing a slider-up jump). Oh, and both the tailgate and rubber banding the slider up are both types of "reefing" right? 15. ...is really fun for the eyes, thanks!! Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  16. i like the way my blackjack flys without a bridal All canopies fly better without extra things attached to top of them. Most pro swoopers actually REMOVE their sliders, d-bags, and pilot chutes for less drag & more speed. When ground launching with my Dagger 266 of course I removed my shrivel flap & pc. 17. I also enjoy that feeling but do not really get it from jumping. Instead of just my stomach, my whole abdomen reports the acceleration downward. The intensity of this sensation varies with each jump. For example, on BASE, balloon, chopper, & ultralight jumps it can be strong. On low altitude cessna jumps I feel it a little bit and solo exits from a turbine not at all. However, occasionally when I have a really heavy tandem passenger I feel it then Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

  19. I tracked 220m in 9sec Don't know anything about rocket pants... but that seems quite a distance for that time. As for track dives in skydiving, I agree, those are not even close to optimal tracks. I know cause I frequently lead them on my back and sometimes have to slow down. When I want to really max track I race this kid who is 22, 6' 3", and weighs like 180 LBs. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  20. If you were the last person on Earth would you still jump?? Yes, without a doubt, cause then I could float my balloon anywhere I wanted, whenever I wanted. It would also be cool to fly a plane, hop out at alttiude, and just let the fucker crash Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  21. Hey Stein, thank you for the video clip. That exit looked better than I thought it would. Nonetheless, the guy I worked with was still a liar Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
  22. Taking a virgin tandem from 8,000 feet can be scary enough for both parties but doing it from 486' just seems plain wrong!! However, I did work with a guy at my last job who said he did a tandem BASE jump years ago on a family vacation in Switzerland. Normally I would have called "bullshit" on the spot but instead my buddy (a Ranger) and I just smiled and let him be a liar. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM

    lowpull

exit speed? If I had to guess I would say 40 knots -------->edited to add: I just did a quick search and found out that 49 knots is a cessna's stall speed so I guess the speed was probably more like 70 knots. Rigger, Skydiver, BASE Jumper, Retired TM
