  1. The one inbound to Biden was flagged as too little postage at a sort facility before being identified as a potential bomb, and the one in FL was returned to sender due to postage and the incorrect address for Holden. The one to CNN was via messenger that is being looked into. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  2. A few site are reporting John Brennan (addressed to him at CNN) and Maxine Waters (intercepted at the congressional mail sort facility) also got similar packages today. Return addresses listed as Debbie Wasserman Schultz. False flag claims by Rush Limbaugh, John Cardillo, Frank Gaffney, Candace Owens, Flynn Jr and a few others I have seen so far. 3. Stabilizer replacement. That entire panel gets replaced. You might want to have it inspected really good to see if there is other damage also prior to replacing it. PD's pricing puts that at $220-280 for repairs: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/PMDPriceList.pdf Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  4. It looks like in the last few days there have been multiple cases of suspicious packages being found at some high profile locations. Secret Service found a few and it looks like the rest were found by someone checking the mail. It looks like Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, George Soros, and CNN's NY office all received packages. Three of the four were mailed to their NY addresses and then Obama's was mailed to his DC address. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/24/660161491/u-s-intercepts-suspicious-packages-addressed-to-clinton-and-obama How long until this is being presented as a false flag operation via Infowars? 5. In that photo the grommets are not exposed, they just did not cocoon it as tight as some jumpers do for the photos. The reason that in the reserve manual they are shown that way is since you need to stack the grommets on top of each other for each side while creating an and at no point are you wrapping the tail all the way around the canopy. Reserve openings from terminal are rarely described as "Soft and gentle" - the method we use to pack reserves is to give the canopy the best chances of opening on heading in the fastest possible way while consuming the least amount of altitude while not causing openings that are excessively hard. We leave the nose exposed and don't wrap anything. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  6. Its electronic music but Daft Punk - Discovery is great. They did an entire hour long animated cartoon set to the music for its music video that you can find online. I'll second Green Day's American Idiot as one of the most recent rock opera releases that was actually good Its 90' and you have to like some of the neo-soul tones like reggae and rap but The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is a great concept album. Beach Boys Pet Sounds is a great example of Concept album if there is one. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  7. In what might be the first case that I can recall it seems that the Soyuz rocket that was taking off to the ISS today with two people on board failed shortly after launch and the capsule was sent on a balastic recovery course instead of into space. It looks like everyone landed safely and the abort during launch procedures actually worked as designed. https://www.space.com/42097-soyuz-rocket-launch-failure-expedition-57-crew.html Thats sure to make what should have been an exciting event even more so. 8. The one that requires jumpers from an airplane to use a two parachute system. The jumper was using a BASE rig with a single FLIK BASE canopy in it. I know a local pilot here that got busted for that after a fatality and ended up losing his commercial license. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  10. I've been out of the loop for a while on the museum but if I remember right the plans were looking to also include an onsite wind tunnel so that "visitors could experience freefall" while onsite and serve as a revenue generator for the facility. This was what was driving up the cost of the building so much - getting a big building and the exhibits in it was not going to be that much but once the tunnel was added the costs jumped but 10-12 million. Is that still being proposed? Issue is that there are now a lot of tunnels popping up and in that region of the country I count the Louden, the Baltimore, the Gathersburg and Kind of Prussia are all up and running today and are within 90 minutes of the proposed build site. Edit - I see the proposed location is now north Orlando. There is already a double tunnel that is in Orlando and then one in Tampa and one in Fort Lauderdale. Question is if the museum even could get the money is the demand there to support the tunnel and use its profits to run the rest of the property? 11. https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Employer=U.S._Postal_Service_(USPS)/Salary Average mail carrier is at about $53,000 a year. That includes starting wages at $33000 to the average retirement wage at 78,000 a year after 35 years of service. Counterparts at UPS report an average of 65000 a year for delivery drivers and that has a pay range of 32k-80k reported. That looks pretty close in line between them with UPS getting paid more but USPS getting better benefits at retirement. Lets look at something different like an admin assistant - I see ads around here all day long for $17-20 an hour. That puts the yearly rates at 34-40k. US State Department admins report an average pay of 15.50 an hour. That is about 30k a year. Here is a good breakdown from the CBO on this: https://www.cbo.gov/publication/52637 In fiscal year 2016, the government spent roughly $215 billion to compensate federal civilian employees. About two-thirds of that total was spent on civilian personnel working in the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or the Department of Homeland Security. Federal civilian workers whose highest level of education was a bachelor’s degree earned 5 percent more, on average, in the federal government than in the private sector (see figure below). Federal civilian workers with no more than a high school education earned 34 percent more, on average, than similar workers in the private sector. By contrast, federal workers with a professional degree or doctorate earned 24 percent less, on average, than their private-sector counterparts. If you have no education you can get hired in at higher wage but as your skills and knowledge go up the civilian side tends to offer more pay. 13. The majority of the cost of a canopy or wingsuit goes into two different areas - the labor and the materials. The material alone will run you $300-500 for the materials for a wingsuit and that is not getting anything exotic like rubber soles or stiffeners. The amount of labor depends on how skilled the person is and how many times have they done similar work in the past. Ask a rigger to put a simple patch on a canopy and it might be an hours work and $5 of scrap material and they charge you $50. Ask a rigger to replace a rib of a canopy and your bill might be $300 or so despite the material only cost them $50. Riggers rates tend to be about $30-50 an hour depending on the task. Average wingsuit is I am guessing 20-30 hours of time for the first couple and then you might get it down to 15-20 within 10 or so copies. At $50 an hour you are looking at $1000-1500 of labor cost and then add materials on top of it. For me to copy your existing suit would be at least $1500 to 2000 of my effort and materials. The manufacturers are making them using labor at a fraction of the cost of a rigger and can knock out a lot more of them since they know all the little secrets and order of assembly. Plus they can get you the latest designs with all the new updates. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  14. Not sure on that - you can always sign up for a free student certificate and get one that way. The thing is for things like Ultralights and other things you don't even need a pilots license and those flyers are in AOPA too so you might want to call them and ask about what it takes to get into their life insurance options. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  15. Another option to look at is insurance via AOPA - they have a much larger pool of pilots and their carrier actually understands everything about general aviation more than most insurance carriers do. You will need to sign up as a member and remain in good standing (like $100 a year) to get the benefits I think. AOPA is awesome for the lobbying side of things also for general aviation. Simple numbers for me were about $143 a month for 1 Million in coverage or $1716 a year. Here are their rates for group term insurance MONTHLY RATES PER $1,000 BENEFIT. There are no general aviation exclusions under this plan. Your aviation activities are covered, unlike some life insurance plans that exclude flying in recreational or commercial aircraft. 16. There is no such thing as an independent instructor - most work for a dropzone indirectly and therefor only jump when a DZ is open. Doing student jumps in the winter sucks for the student. The lack of students means that DZ's don't have work so they shut down. They may stay open a few weeks longer if the weather is good but usually at Thanksgiving everything north of the Ohio River is shut down for most meaningful student operations until March or so. You will find some still doing jumps here and there but its more of on an appointment thing only. If the two DZ's near you are not fitting your needs then you will need to go to the next DZ that works. The AFF course is long, its boring, but they are there to make sure you actually understand the book and to cover them that they actually taught you those parts so that if you screw up and die on your first jump they are covered more on the liability side that since they followed their standard procedures they are better protected. Average ground course when I taught it was 6+ hours and 80% of it was material in the SIM. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
  17. I have a customer that has a Racer and uses their cardstock type card, after the opening and folding of it for the last 10 years at only 1-2 repacks per year the card is basically in 2-3 pieces along its fold seams. We extended the life of it by putting clear tape on one side over the rips but its in desperate need of a replacement. The issue is that the card contains all the work done on the container along its life so we can not just transfer the data to a new tyvek card that easy since all the signatures would need replaced. Tyvek offers the option to sew cards together if you need to carry over data for reserve repacks with the canopy from one rig to the next. 19. A counter argument to the concept of loss of jobs is the issue of "replacement birth rate". Right now in developing countries the birth rate is still growing but in developed countries the birth rate is falling to levels under that of a sustained population limit. I was seeing that over all world wide population is expected to peak around 12 billion in another 50 years and then should start declining back to our current 9 billion in another 25 years after that. The situation is that for a population to remain stable (replacement worker for everyone retiring) you need a live birth rate of around 2100 per 1000 women. This allows for a direct replacement per person with the expected mortality rates until adulthood. The issue is in some countries the birthrate has dropped to less than 1500 per 1000. Two countries where this is really noticeable right now are Japan and South Korea. Japan is at 1400 and South Korea is at about 1250. This means that for every person that dies/retires and leaves a job opening there is only .5 persons available to replace them. People are literately going to have to do two jobs to keep everything at the same levels of production or those jobs will need to be replaced via technology. This is actually a great situation where automation and AI can help to replace that gap. South Korea is really interesting when you look at the information on their birth rate and the impact on their median age: http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/south-korea-population/ When you see the birth rate drop below about 1.8 the median age starts to climb fairly shortly after that. With a rapidly aging population while also having a time of extended life spans they are facing a situation where workers are going to have to work longer in their life to maintain their overall productivity levels as well as the need to defer the time that the population is able to access their social services. They just do not have enough replacement workers entering into the work force funding their pensions to cover the mass amount of money being withdrawn from it so it questions the entire stability of the pension system in the country in the next 15-20 years. The US birthrate has dropped to about 1800 per 1000 women and is continuing to drop with every year so we will start to see some of the effects of this in the next 20 years or so when the current worker force that is the last of the baby boomers retires and there is no one to replace each of them in the workforce. Population can either grow organically - get out there and have more children or it can be sustained by immigrants entering into a country and being added to the population. 21. I know multiple third parties that receive classified content via personal email on an hourly basis and there is nothing illegal or even against practice about it. When you send an email from say State.gov to NGA.gov it passes through dozens of middle layer servers. For the most part agencies are working on turning on basic encryption for external mail but most still do not have it turned on yet. The Cyber Scorecard is showing red across the board for most agencies and that is for the most basic security configurations. The government as a whole is basically the worst possible option if you want to secure information - there is a reason that they are shutting down the infrastructure and are moving it to third parties (Office365), its well known that the agencies don't have the tools, man power or expertise to be able to run IT as well as a lot of their commercial peers. Unless you are actually dealing with the policies and procedures of the .gov's and the .mil's all you are doing is repeating a worn out talking point that has little basis in actual fact. 23. Word was that the driver lost his transmission and it only worked in reverse so he wanted to get out of traffic. I know that intersection and ramp very well, that's a typical morning rush hour there, another 100 yards up and he would have needed to park right there in the right lane since the shoulder goes to nothing. I am honestly surprised that ODOT did not have a sheriff there since there is a substation only about a mile away. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

  25. That I would maybe agree with. There are plenty of other EV's and hybrids emerging. Average income in the US is $59,000.00. If you take out the over-inflated coastal wages I'm sure it's even less. At a tax rate of 30% that works out to just under $800 per week. A $30K auto loan works out to ~$500 per month. Not something the average person can do or something the banks would let them do without gold plated credit. Sorry...the EV market in general in still for the upper crust. FUnny how many here don't realize how much better they have it than your average Joe. And yet the average cost of the most popular truck in America is $42,373 right now. That is a $850 per month loan payment for a 5 year loan or $625 per month for a 72 month loan. Ford sold 896,764 F-150's last year (2 per seconds every minute of the day) and have sold 287,295 in the first four month of 2018. They sold 81,866 (10 per hour) Mustangs last year with an average market paid price of $32,862. 238,056 Explorers (1 every 2 minutes 24/7) were sold at an average market price of $36,539. Right there are 1,265,925 new cars sold in the US that have similar prices. At that point you might as well say that owning a car is still for the upper crust only. We get it - you have an massive hate for all those "left coast liberals" and resent anyone that makes the decision to do anything different than you think they should. This is clear in terms of how much you complain about your family that is living in the bay area and your swipes at "over inflated coastal wages". Issue is that the wages are inflated in any city over living in smaller towns. As a manager in Grand Forks ND you will not get the same money as in Denver - thats just a function of the size of the city driving the wages Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
