  1. Not in the least, no radios at this DZ’s. He landed over a gentle roll in the horizon, where I knew were some pretty good size rocks and boulders. I started walking out about 10 minutes with not seeing any sign from him. I found him sitting down and smarting over a broken humerous. I called the DZ and asked for a car that made its way out a bout an hour later. The AFFI gave a very demeaning speech to all of us before the jump on Sky Van procedures, the fact that we had been jumping it for the three previous days didn’t seem to matter much. This was the first and last time I saw him, a short, cocky, dark haired Australian. Later, when I asked him why he didn’t follow thru with his student, he was all apologies and had his hat in his hands. Knowing then what I know now, I would have made more of an issue. I can go to Walmart right now and buy a few sets of handheld radios for under $100. Sure the radio could die, batteries could die, the instructor holding the radio could have a heart attack and die but it gives the students whose never seen the dropzone from that angle before the best chance of making it back uninjured. With the amount of adrenaline they have after their first skydive they may be directly above the dropzone and not see it because they forgot what it looked like when they saw the map in class. Seasonal changes can make it look completely different as well. I've only been to a few dropzones so far but each one had students on radio whether they were aff or iad student so this to me seems odd.
  2. I haven't had any slammers on this. The pocket slider seems to work well and I roll the nose when I pack as well. It is also lined with vectran so no shrinking line to screw up my opening. With that said its not as comfortable of an opening as say a pilot or a sabre 2.
  3. I have a fully inflated canopy in 3-4 seconds after I pull. 170 sabre 1 with pocket slider loaded at 1.2. Usually I'm open within 4-500 feet. As far as the time beforehand, that's all dependent on who I jump with, how many, agreed break off altitude, and altitude itself.
  4. Look up "wingsuit double malfunction" in YouTube duel sided rsl choked out reserve after a pilot chute in tow let loose after reserve deployment
  5. I have been a trigger pull away due to depression. mine was more of a self hate sort of thing, not a this world sucks and there's no point to live thing. Im not going to say anything towards what works and helps because everyone is different and what works for me may not work for your them. I will tell you things I have experienced that makes it worse though. 1)Lack of sleep. After a few days of no sleep your not thinking straight at all which makes it easier for your mind to justify things like suicide. Don't confuse this with having a task to work on and running with it. If they are constantly working on something without sleep it may be that they are doing it to keep their mind busy. Still not healthy but better than letting your mind wander. 2)doing nothing. letting your mind wander remembering all the bad things that happen in your life and how much happier you would have been if you did this instead of that. (My case was how things would have turned out better for others) winter does make things like this worse since there is less activities out of the house. 3) not eating much. depression can kill your appetite which also makes your depression worse. I had to force myself to eat, not because I was hungry but because I knew I wasn't getting enough. With that said you have to want to be better to do this. 4) the environment your in. At the time I had stress at work and where I lived. I could get out of the the house for a little bit but everything around me I found boring so it was kinda pointless but I did try. All of these combined is what put me at the edge. The first thing I did was get out of the environment. I joined a gym and went 3 times a week. I didn't really enjoy it but it did a least make me tired so I would sleep more. It also made me hungry so I was eating more as well. I understand that a lot of people would say exercise is the answer but in my opinion its not. Like a pill it is treating the symptoms not the cause. It is however a very good temporary fix until you get your life sorted out and if it does eventually become your hobby, good for you. I just found it boring but kept at until I improved myself. I changed positions at my job, I changed where I lived, I got into woodworking for a few years to keep my mind busy since I can't change my past. (If you think skydiving is expensive try pricing out good woodworking tools/equipment) my disposition toward others is not as friendly as it use to be though. Well more the general public but with skydivers it's different All of that above was before I took the first leap. while I would say skydiving has helped me the most, not everyone wants to do that or has that option.
  6. The way it's been explained to me is that the pressure on the reserve container is the problem. Will it work after a malfunctioning main? Sure. terminal opening with the main still in? Likely. Emergency bailout at 1000 feet? Your reserve may not open in time.
  7. I am not going to do a barrel roll in the middle of my track. I will however look everywhere I can and keep track of where everyone else is the best I can. I have pitched high before and I've pitched below the planned pull altitude before. I do have a very strong sense of spatial awareness due to where I work. With that said my opinion is you should be looking down for arms waving below you. Your eyes are drawn to movement but you need to be looking in the right direction to see it.
  8. I didn't realize it was in two different places in the sim. I was looking at the one on page 29-30 but the one you pointed out looks to be more in depth.
  9. Section 4 in the SIM. As said above prevention is better
  10. Usually I want to be open before I hit the ground. I've only had to take it down to 2,500 twice and I wasn't to happy about it but I am still a new jumper. I would consider anything below 2000 low for myself but for others it depends on what I know about them. If it's a student, 2500 is low but if its an 80+ year old man I know that has been in the sport for 60 years I wouldn't flinch if he blew through 2000. Edit: missed the "planned" part. My normal planned is 3500
  11. There is no right answer to this. It all depends on how the canopy flys with you in the harness. What might be slow and smooth for me might be hard and fast for you. The only way to figure it out is to try it out several different ways until you find what works best. One other thing if I remember correctly, navigators are f-111 and depending on how many jumps it might not have much flare power left to begin with. also the different in the flare between that and a zp canopy is huge. I could stall a 210 nav but I could never get it to plane out. My sabre 170 on the other hand I can give it a quick half brake to plane it out and then slowly shut it down. The only way to really figure this out is to try different things up high before you enter your landing pattern. See what feels like more lift
  12. Yes your weight makes a difference in what they set the wind speed. What may barely float you off the net will blast a 4 year old to the top. One hour should be sufficient
  13. Probably have the wind speed set to barely enough to float you. its a little harder but not much. Until you have complete control, they're not likely to turn the wind up. More wind equals higher speed mistakes/collisions with walls
  14. My dz runs door closed during takeoff to 1500. The door doesn't open until all seatbelts are off. At about 6000 feet it gets closed again so the video guys can do midflight interview of the tandem and doesn't open again until we get the red light. When it's cold out it just stays closed until jumprun
  15. Of all the things to wear a seatbelt in, I would think this would be one you'll make sure was good. Unless of course you planned on jumping
  16. Definitely sounds fishy, I hope you got info on the seller. They definitely didn't know the cost of what they had. Yes it's old gear but it may have been in someone's closet during a burglary. Was the dz somewhat nearby? I would want to get a hold of the po before I do anything with it
  17. While funny, I won't waste that much of my time for them. I was thinking of sending them a pic of my nut sack though.
  18. Punctuation matters. Missed an apostrophe
  19. I burned a some money there last year when they had a 4min for $50 deal going. I went there for the same reason but if you're just looking for help with turns, 10 minutes is probably all you need and any instructor/coach there should be able to help. In the tunnel they want you flat as a board with your hands close to your head to keep the wind speed down. While this does work in the sky, if you're tall and skinny like me, you outfloat everyone including some AFF Instuctors. That's the main difference I noticed anyway its been a while since I went. turning in the tunnel was no different than in the sky for me. Looking over your shoulder still turns you in that direction and leg turns still work The same just keep in mind they'll likely be faster in the sky One other thing for you to do while you're in there is work on your wave off and pull. Try to remain in the the same spot without turning through the whole sequence. You should be able to fly the pull position. Yes again it'll be a little different in the sky but if you can remain stable while going slower, deployment are more likely to be softer.
  20. From mairan07 in a private message on this site Hello! My name is Mairan Abuk. I'm the only child/daughter of late engineer Martin Abuk. My late father was an Ivorian businessman and entrepreneur philanthropist involved in the oil & gas industries. He also had extensive investments in real estate and the agricultural sectors. It is disheartening to say that my father was poisoned to death by his business associates during one of their business meeting. My mother died when I was barely 4 years old and since then my father took me so special and he loved me so dearly. Before the death of my father in a private hospital here in Abidjan, he secretly called me on his bed side and told me that he has the sum of (USD$ 7,500,000.00) seven million, five hundred thousand united states dollar in a fixed deposit account with a bank here in Abidjan and he used my name as his heir. He also explained to me that it was because of his enormous wealth that he was poisoned by his business associates out of envy and wickedness. He advised me to search for a foreign partner in a country of my choice where I will transfer this money and use it for investments such as real estate / hotels or food processing plant. Please I am honorably seeking your assistance in the following ways: (1) To provide a bank account into which this money would be transferred to. (2) To serve as the investment manager of this money (3) To make arrangement for me to come over to your country and continue my education (4) To secure a resident permit for me in your country. Moreover, I'm willing to offer you 25% of the total sum as compensation for your effort/ input after the successful transfer of this fund into your bank account. Please indicate your options towards assisting me as I believe that this transaction would be concluded within few days you signify your interest to assist me. Dear contact me in my Email box ([email protected]) With Kind Regards Mairan Abuk
  21. Weekends are always busy at delmarva but a signature only takes a few seconds. If they are working with another student or flaking/bagging their canopy, I'll wait until they're done and ask before they move to the next task. You can get a signature after every jump but you may have to wait a minute or two for them to finish debriefing a student or getting the line stows on the bag. They're all friendly there you just have to ask. Ray
  22. If you know anything about rabies and it's transmission you will know that this is false news. Think gamg rape with one or two getting bit while holding it still. Those two go to the hospital later with problems, confess what happened and the rest get treated just in case. Could still be fake but this is a possible scenario.
  23. Here is another story of someone buying a street: http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/matier-ross/article/Rich-SF-residents-get-a-shock-Someone-bought-11738236.php put up meters and charge for parking
  24. Videos are both the same slow mo canopy deployment for me
