  1. There was a Beech 18 at Eustis in the late 70s or early 80s> I know that because I did some drop tests for Pioneer using it. It Had to be in a dive to get the airspeed we needed to achieve the load on the canopy we wanted. Silly was helping me but my memory doesn't provide me any more details at the moment. I don't remember ever jumping it there, however....just the C-180. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  2. Funny...I don't recall Ted Kennedy resigning from the Senate or Barney (the banking queen) Frank resigning from the House. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  3. Jim Bates had one IIRC...back in the day! "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  4. "They are either entitled to the protections of our constitution or the protections of the Geneva Convention, which also requires the advising of certain rights, and the right to representation in the event of a prosecution. " What do you base this upon? Can you cite some legal statutes for me. Is there something in the Geneva Convention that specifically cites this? Why have we never done this before? Or, if we have, can you cite examples? "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  5. You might like to take a closer look at what the Allies did at the end of WWII with German and Japanese military leaders. Many were tried, some were imprisoned, some were executed. And, many POWs were held for a number of years at the end of hostilities...especially by the Soviets but by other Allied powers as well. 6. Does this mean that Ted Kaczynski, the Uni-Bomber was a left-wing extremist that the "Demo-holes" should run for Congress? What about these radical lefties running around burning down housing tracts, ski resorts, etc because of their radical environmental agenda? Get real, there are nuts on both extremes and they don't reflect the mainstream right or left. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  7. In US custody but in a foreign, sovereign country with an elected government. Whose law are they breaking by their acts against the coalition forces in Afghanistan? Did Harry Truman order the US military to "mirandize" North Korean and Chinese soldiers captured during the Korean War...ooops, I mean "police action"? Did Clinton order the Somalis captured in the ill-fated Somali adventure during the 90s to be "mirandized"? Perhaps what should have happened is that Bush should have asked Congress for a declaration of war for the Afghanistan effort. That might have settled the matter of whether they are "enemy combatants" or just lawbreakers or, since they don't wear uniforms, they could be considered spys and simply tried and executed. 8. Please explain how do these "terrorists" who are foreign nationals, not US citizens, not captured in the United States, not committed a crime in the United States get rights that apply to only US citizens in the US? Does this mean that a Kenyan has to receive Miranda warnings if they rob a bank in Kenya? I'm not sure that the Kenyan authorities would agree with you on that. 9. You'd think with 400 hp, that with only 5 jumpers and a pilot on board, it would be a decent climbing A/C. I flew a recip Porter years ago (once belonged to Steve Snyder) which had a 350hp engine (I think) that didn't exactly rocket to altitude but would climb like about like a C-182 if you kept the IAS within plus/minus 3kts of best rate of climb...and that was with 8 jumpers and pilot. 10. ...and after the B-26 Marauder was phased out, the A-26 Invader was re-designated as B-26. During the early stages of the Vietnam war, for PC reasons, it was re-designated again back to A-26. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  11. well, I'm well aware that they certainly play a role...Medicare, etc but states really muck up the market each with their own specific regulations, etc. If you think it is bad now, wait until "O" gets done with it....or as P.J. O'Rourke said "If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it's free" "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  12. Well, under the First Amendment, I think he has a right to an opinion and to express it. After all, he was there. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  13. "General government incompetence?" Gee, aren't these the people that are going to be running our health care in the near future? That should really be fun! "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  14. It seems to me that it was the Europeans that created the state of Israel, not the United States. If you don't like what the Israelis are doing, then let Europe do something about it. Stop complaining to the U.S. "The modern state of Israel has its religious roots in the Biblical Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael), a concept central to Judaism since ancient times,[8][9] and the heartland of the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah.[10] Following the birth of political Zionism in 1897 and the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations granted Britain the British Mandate of Palestine after World War I, with responsibility for establishing "...such political, administrative and economic conditions as will secure the establishment of the Jewish national home, as laid down in the preamble, and the development of self-governing institutions, and also for safeguarding the civil and religious rights of all the inhabitants of Palestine, irrespective of race and religion..."[11] In November 1947 United Nations decided on partition of Palestine into a Jewish state, an Arab state, and a UN-administered Jerusalem.[12" "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  15. People are concerned because North Korea's leadership is just crazy enough to use nuclear weapons on their neighbors on a first-strike basis. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  16. This strikes close to home (no pun intended) as I am in the process of moving out of Connecticut and relocating to Florida. Taxes are one of the primary reasons for the move...state income tax, property taxes, etc. As far as my fellow citizens in the community are concerned.... they can drown in the financial swamp that is of their own making. I see no reason to support the wasteful spending of the left-wing politicians in CT. While the governor is a "Republican", she is a RINO. The Dems control the legislature and the Republicans can't get their act together to offer an alternative. I'm voting with my feet. 17. Gosh, what a great idea...hold terror suspects indefinitely! Why didn't Bush/Cheney ever think of this? Guess they just as smart as the Obamessiah. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  18. Well, duh....and who is doing all the spending by the federal government? Obamessiah and the Dems! From Bloomberg News - Obama Says U.S. Long-Term Debt Load ‘Unsustainable’ (Update2) Share | Email | Print | A A A By Roger Runningen and Hans Nichols May 14 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries. “We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.” Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.” Earlier this week, the Obama administration revised its own budget estimates and raised the projected deficit for this year to a record $1.84 trillion, up 5 percent from the February estimate. The revision for the 2010 fiscal year estimated the deficit at $1.26 trillion, up 7.4 percent from the February figure. The White House Office of Management and Budget also projected next year’s budget will end up at $3.59 trillion, compared with the $3.55 trillion it estimated previously. Two weeks ago, the president proposed $17 billion in budget cuts, with plans to eliminate or reduce 121 federal programs. Republicans ridiculed the amount, saying that it represented one-half of 1 percent of the entire budget. They noted that Obama is seeking an $81 billion increase in other spending. Entitlement Programs In his New Mexico appearance, the president pledged to work with Congress to shore up entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. He also said he was confident that the House and Senate would pass health-care overhaul bills by August. “Most of what is driving us into debt is health care, so we have to drive down costs,” he said. Obama prodded Congress to pass restrictions on credit-card issuers, saying consumers need “strong and reliable” protection from unfair practices and hidden fees. “It’s time for reform that’s built on transparency, accountability, and mutual responsibility, values fundamental to the new foundation we seek to build for our economy,” the president said. Obama called on Congress to send to him by May 25 a bill that would clamp down on what he says are sudden rate increases, unfair penalties and hidden fees. He also wants the measure to strengthen monitoring of credit-card companies. House Bill The U.S. House of Representatives passed the credit-card bill last month after adding a provision requiring banks to apply consumers’ payments to balances with the highest interest rates first. The bill also imposes limits on card interest rates and fees. The Senate continued debating its version of the bill today. It would require credit-card companies to give 45 days’ notice before increasing an interest rate. It would prohibit retroactive rate increases on existing balances unless a consumer was 60 days late with a payment. The president said Americans have been hooked on their credit cards and share some blame for the current system. “We have been complicit in these problems,” he said. “We have to change how we operate. These practices have only grown worse in the midst of this recession.” The American Bankers Association, which represents card issuers, has warned lawmakers and the Obama administration against taking punitive action or setting requirements that are too stringent. Doing so, the lobby group says, would limit consumer credit and worsen a credit crunch. Obama said that restrictions “shouldn’t diminish consumers’ access to credit.” Uncollectible Debt Uncollectible credit-card debt rose to 8.82 percent in February, the most in the 20 years that Moody’s Investors Service Inc. has kept records. Lawmakers have said they’re under increasing pressure from constituents to respond to rising interest rates and abrupt changes to consumers’ accounts. Obama held a White House meeting last month with executives from the credit-card industry, including representatives from Bank of America Corp. and American Express Co. Afterward, he told reporters that credit-card issuers should be prohibited from imposing “unfair” rate increases on consumers and should offer the public credit terms that are easier to understand. “The days of any time, any increase, anything goes -- rate hike, late fees -- that must end,” Obama said today at Rio Rancho High School. We’re going to require clarity and transparency from now on.” He also said the steps he has taken to stimulate the economy and start the debate on overhauling the health-care system are beginning to take effect. ‘Beginning to Turn’ “We’ve got a long way to go before we put this recession behind us,” Obama said. “But we do know that the gears of our economy, our economic engine, are slowly beginning to turn.” Taking questions from the audience, Obama repeated his stance that he wants legislation to overhaul the health-care system finished before the end of the year, saying it is vital to the economy. Health-care costs are driving up the nation’s debt and burdening entitlement programs such as Medicare, the government- run insurance program for those 65 and older and the disabled. The programs’ trustees reported May 13 that the Social Security trust fund will run out of assets in 2037, four years sooner than forecast, and Medicare’s hospital fund will run dry by 2017, two years earlier than predicted a year ago. 19. That's what Reagan said about the Democrat party when he switched to being a Republican. "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  20. That is exactly the answer I was hoping to see. Reagan took stands, often unpopular, and stuck with his convictions. He took untold crap from the dems and the media (sorry if I repeat) about stong national defense including missile defense, deploying new missiles (Pershings?, it's been too long a time), the Berlin Wall, low taxes, a smaller federal government. and many other things. He did not waiver on his convictions. Rather, he stuck to his guns. I loved his statement about liberals when he said "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorand but that they know so much that isn't so". 21. and the last politically-successful Republican favoring the "big tent" theory was...????? "current abysmal position"?....is the Republican party in any worse condition than the Dems in 1994? These "More and more people self-identifying as" Democrats are people who waffle on issues or let peer pressure influence them. They are lacking in conviction. Bipartisan, centrist, moderate - these are all pseuodonyms for people who can be swayed to the Democrat positions by peer pressure and the desire to be "liked". 22. "Pigs fly" = swine flu? "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling
  23. Colin Powell...a Republican? I don't think so. He endorsed and campaigned for BHO. I think he showed his "true colors" in that move. I think Rush had it exactly right about Powell quite some time ago. McCain is too weak in core conservative values and not enough people know anything about the current governor of FL. 24. The First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peacefully to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." While I think the teacher was out of line and I enjoy seeing him taken to task for it, I don't see how the First Amendment even applies; Congress did nothing in this instance. It was a teacher. In my opinion (for whatever that is worth) the First Amendment has been so badly misinterpretted over the years...including by the Supreme Court and the so-called "separation of church and state" which exists no where in the First Amendment. 25. Oh, come on now. If the government passes a law forbidding certain items such as certain classes of firearms and forbids felons (in some cases even law-abiding citizens) from owning or possessing them then no one will own these firearms. Criminals and terrorists always obey the law. Therefore, we will all be so much safer. That is the gospel according to the anti-Second Amendment crowd so it must be true.
