  1. I don't know what percentage of Medals of Honor have been awarded for "jumping on a live grenade" but the truth is in the majority of cases where this has happened it is a result of a soldier seeing the grenade and realizing that the only chance he may have is containing the explosion by trapping it under his helmet. There is no time to think of "saving his buddies". It is merely a move of desperation in attempting to survive. Lets stop the BS Freefall Hall
  2. Roman Catholic seminaries have been a haven for homosexuals for generations. Little Johnny who finds he has no attraction for girls and ashamed of his peculiarity tells Mom, "I want to be a priest" and thereby escapes attention by his relatives and friends. Celibacy laws have contributed to the problem of sexual perverts in the priesthood. No man or boy awakening in the morning with an erection can explain it away by becoming a priest. It is time that the Vatican recognize the problem before the Catholic religion goes the way of the dinosaurs. Freefall Hall
  3. Xmas trees represent the commercial Xmas so should not be subject to religious restrictions. The Rabbi is off the mark in producing an argument based on religion to protest Xmas trees in public areas. Quote Freefall Hall
  4. I first visited Hawaii in 1944 on my way to Iwo Jima. I worked for the government at the time and was paid $66 a month plus room and board. To tell you the truth I hated to leave Hawaii aboard an LST bound for Tokyo via Iwo Jima and Okinawa. I would love to return but am afraid that it is far too commercial now and I would miss the accomondations I enjoyed 62 years ago. Now I jump in the Northeast and Fl. It is cold and miserable in the Northeast seven months out of 12. I don't think Fl. is a bargain in the winter months, that is Jan., and Feb. I like warm evenings and like sunset jumps. I am not an early riser due to the fact that I enjoy night sports which keep me awake most nights. Ah! youth; where is thy sting? Anyhow I just made my 80th birthday jump at Cross Keys. Sad news; a tandem fatality the day before my birthday jump. I have jumped for 41 years and will probably give it up on my 90th birthday. This equipment is getting just too damn expensive. I just paid near $6000 for an Aerodyne rig with Cypres II. Takes a lot out of my Social Security check. Freefall Hall
  5. I have been involved in skydiving for 41 years and have experienced just about everything good and bad. I have always believed that there are two kinds of people who jump. One is the jumper who is addicted and enjoys every jump. He/she would jump at night all alone just for the pure thrill. The other is the jumper who is scared shitless and jumps to prove something to him/her self or to some one else. This second jumper is a menace and should not be encouraged by DZO just for the bucks. 6. Hello, I just wish to comment on a sport that has grown more and more commercial, replacing business with pleasure. I began jumping in 1965 at Orange, Mass. I was on vacation and had been attempting to jump at a small sport parachute club near my hometown in Upstate New York only to be put off for several months. We used B4 packs and 7 apart TU's. Our military surplus containers were equipped with four pins and a dual purpose ring. Getting ready for the jump was like getting in a deep sea suit. The reserve was a T7A with no pilot chute. The capewells on the rig were not made to be activated during a jump so the reserve was thrown out hoping it didn't entangle with the malfunctioned main. Most fatalities were from drowning and electrocution. I have lost a few friends during my time in the sport due to skydiving accidents but I have never waivered from my love of the sport. My 2000 jumps have encompassed those first jumps on the ratty equipment (I made `17 static line jumps beofore my clear and pull) up and until now when I jump Aerodyne equipment for the most part. I made a jump on my 80th birthday at Cross Keys last September. My freefall cameraman kind of goofed up the video but it is better than nothing and good enough to be included in a TV interview last month. I don't know how much longer I will be involved in the sport but I would like to make it to 90 years of age. I signed a contract when I was born for 100 years so I have about 20 years left. 7. I believe you should forsake skydiving and take up tennis. Freefall Hall
  8. The way I see it is a ring is an admittance that you are taken and if there is horny chick aboard you don't want that to happen. Females always check the ring finger of guys they find attractive. And don't forget the mark left from tanning if you remove the ring. That is a dead giveaway.
  9. I have been associated with this sport for 41 years and still jump. I have seen it develop from a small club operation to commercial, for profit enterprises to these tandem factories and I must say that the "sport" has now lost its validity as a 'sport". Now we even have cripples falling out of harnesses to their death. It may be time for govrnment to take a look at this mad rush for profit before any others die needlessly. Freefall Hall
  10. Two thousand jumps and never had an audible device. Here is what I have done since my first jump in 1965. Assuming an exit altitude above 7K. I jump and in about 15 seconds check my altimeter. After that it is all eyeball. I usually get open above 1K which gives me time to deploy a reserve because my first look at the open canopy is decision time for me. When in doubt, get it out!! I am still kicking at 78 years.
  11. I wondr if he would lick it off my gutwrench. Freefall Hall
  12. I just read that there is a move to issue condoms in prison. Not a bad idea when you realize that most of these animals engage in anal sex and are HIV positive and will be released to infect innocent people. I do not believe any prisoner who is HIV positive whould ever be released to the civilian world. Put them on an island like they used to do lepers. Freefall Hall
  13. Every psychologist that has studied the problem recognizes that gun nuts suffer from feelings of sexual inadequacy and live in fear that some dude with eight inches of love muscle will steal their wives so they substitute their inadequacy with guns. Damn shameful. Freefall Hall
  14. Like everything elsi in this society standards have been reduced to accomondate short term needs or problems. Our schools have been dumbed down to accomondate minorities to the point where Bill Gates has declared our high schools obsolete. Standards in our police force agencies have been almost eliminated until it is not uncommon to see short fat females toting 9 MM,s just to get them off the welfare. Just take a look at our armed forces where they have grandmothers wearing General's stars in the army reserve and when deployed prove a complete disaster as in the Iraqi prisoner episodes. Hell, I saw a piece on CNN where a grandmother toting an M16 was kissing her grandchildren good bye while mounting a 6x6 to carry her to the airport to transport her to Iraq. What a fucking mess. This country is fast descending to the bottom of the pyramind in the industrialized countries. Before the liberal nutcases rush to respond let me tell you I spent seven years in uniform including three years in a war zone in WW II. Hell no wonder we got our asses kicked in Vietnam while psychos like Lt. Calley murdered women and children. Freefall Hall
  15. I purchased an Icon I5 and a Triathlon 210. It was damn near impossible to close the container with this canopy. I contacted Aerodyne and they made me a new rig I7. Everything is now kopasetic. Aerodyne was terrific in addressing the problem.
  16. I just purchased an Icon, Triathlon 210, Smart 190 reserve with Cypres for $4822. Now the bad news. There is no way that the 210 fits in the container. You can get it in the bag with a mighty effort but then in order to close the container you must put a longer closing loop and even then the grommet is way below the flaps. Damn shame. I am going after the mfr for a correction.[email]Quote
  17. I made my first jump in 1965 at Orange, Mass. My jump suit was a double zipper. I then purchased a double zipper. You don't have to take your shoes off to get into it. "Tis simple" Last year I bought my second double zipper from Flite Suit and guess what! They haven't changed at all so if you are looking for comfort and ease and have no desire to look like a clown buy one. You won't be disappointed.
