  13. Page 85 of the July Parachutist mag. My eyes, they ain't so good, but it looks to me like that tandem instructor is giving the video dude a two handed "You're number one!"????? Pretty rad for a picture in Parchutist

  14. Great idea to try someone else's suit first. And if it fits you good, try to buy it. Seriously, if it fits good, offer to buy it. When you get to the point where other belly flyers ask you to join a team, you'll probably have to buy a new team suit. And if you're like a lot of the people who buy new suits, you'll have to send it back to get adjusted (rest assured, the manufacturer DID build it to the measurements on the order form). You'll then realize that spending a little bit (relatively) for a used suit is not such a bad idea after all...oh, yeah, one more thing, be sure to shoe-goo the booties before they get too ragged out. Oh, one more thing, do your piece partner a favor and be sure that you have inside leg grippers on your suit.

  15. For the blocks, I only have a few memory tricks, some based on 4-way -
    block 6 Star-Star (like Stardian, block 6 in 4-way)
    block 8 Frisbee-Frisbee (kinda looks like a figure 8)
block 11 Nor. Box-Nor Donut (pieces look like 1's during inter - it makes sense in my little mind)
block 16 Can Tees-Monopods (block 8 in 4-way is Can Tee, 8-way is twice 4-way...yeah, another one that makes sense in my little mind)

For the rest of the blocks, I just caved in and memorized them, since I'm not intelligent enough to come up with memory tricks for these.

For the randoms, jwynne has good suggestions. Others that work for me are:

    C - "C"lock (Hourglass)
    F - diamond "F"lake
    G - "G"ee, I love head (arrowhead)
    H - "H"irquois
    J - "J"elly Donut (Springbok - donut base)
    L - "L"ong Diamond (Open facing diamond)
    M - "M"an, I hate spiders (double spiders)
    O - "O"h no, a compressed! (compressed accordian)

Not sure these are helpful to anyone else, but they work for me

    Blue Skies!

  16. The members of the Spaceland Havoc 4-way team - Diane Chamberlain,
Scott Elmer, Joe Harris, Scott Latinis, and Brett Thomas - are in
the process of organizing a Speed Star competition on June 14 at
    Skydive Spaceland.

Well, to be honest, the speed formation may change for each round,
but we promise at least one round will be a star.

Anyway, the teams will be formed after everyone
registers the morning of June 14. We're shooting for
10-way teams, but the actual number on each team will
depend on how many of y'all register. Could be
12-way, could be 9-way, you get the idea....

We'll ensure that the each team will be packed with as
    many highly-experienced, highly-skilled skydivers -
such as yourself - as possible, while allowing the
junior jumpers a chance to showcase their talent.

The rules will be simple...probably :) 4 rounds.
Timed event - duh! Each round will have a wrinkle so
that it's not just 4 rounds of "exit, crash into
formation and hang on". Ok, one of the rounds will be
like the Nationals 10-way rules, so that will be a for
sure honest-to-goodness "exit, crash into formation
and hang on" round. The rules for the other rounds
haven't been set in stone yet, but we promise fun and
    excitement for one and all.

And since there will be only 4 rounds, we should have
time at the end of the day to put together some
    big-way stuff just for grins.

As for the costs, we're going to keep them as low as
possible. I expect the total cost to be around
$100/person, maybe a little more, maybe a little less.
That will cover your slot, the video slot, the video
fee, and a prize for the first place team. What does
the 2nd place team get, you ask. Well, in the famous
words of Ricky Bobby (Talladega Nights), "If you ain't
first, you're last.". No prize for last
    place...sorry.

I think that's everything, except for the part where
you reply to me with a "Hell, Yeah! I want to play!".
By doing that, we'll have an idea on how many
    skydivers to expect.

my e-mail is: mick4and8 at yahoo dot com

  17. We all watched as BJ Worth and Derek Thomas put the full-head-cover mask on Oliver at the "3 minutes to exit" mark on each jump. It was very tight fitting and it took both of them to get the zipper in the back all the way down. Most 4-way jumpers would not pick orange as their jumpsuit color of choice, but after watching Oliver get the mask put on, we all decided that wearing an orange jumpsuit was just fine. The real "thrill" came after the first practice jump when Oliver told us that his vision was pretty restricted with the mask on. This wasn't real comforting to Kirk Verner, Christopher Irwin, and Pat McGowen, who Oliver was "jumping" as he went into the center of the 4. Oliver is an incredible board flyer, and that was truly cool to see him flying around the formation, then dive through the middle. The jump was a major buzz for all of us. Mega thanks to Fox!! And sincere thanks to Tom Sanders and John Hamilton, for their organizational prowess in putting this together.

  18. The rumor 'round these-here parts is that Sector Alpha slots are the hot ticket at this shindig. Ah course, I'm not one to believe everything I read (if the words ain't too big), but the scrolling on the men's room wall hints that for a good time, be on the 20-way hybrid dive that the Alpha Tribe could be offering up for the enjoyment of the masses. You didn't hear it from me....
