  1. I know of Square 1 and Sunshine Factory as websites that have a web-based store front for used canopies. does anyone know any other websites besides these 2 and dropzone where I could find listings of in-stock used gear/canopies? Thanks, Lewis D-25265
  2. I am going to Santiago, Chile at the beginning of January. Does anyone know of a good, safe, and Chilean Federation of Parchuting certified dropzone near there? if so, how far away is it from Santiago? Do they rent gear for licensed jumpers? What kind of aircraft do they have? Thanks. Lewis [email protected] D-25265
  3. QuoteMatt, how are you doing? this is Lewis. I was on that 4-way RW scrambles team with you when you won. shoot me an email at: [email protected] Lewis D-25265
  4. Dave, I think you have to be skydiving for over 4 years and have just over 50 jumps. Wait, you have just about that much! You got to get out of the plane more. D-25265
  5. Here is the actual uspa website http://www.uspa.org/PageOneLinks/tsa1202.htm D-25265
  6. The boogie just keeps on getting better and better! It should be an all out blast! D-25265
  7. I think what they should do is lower the registration fee (even lower than what the event would cost) and let the collegiate skydivers perform and improve. This way, the future of skydiving would only get better. Moreover, USPA should cover the tab for the left over cost of the event of the collegiates. Yes, numerous people in USPA may be upset, but recall that college students make up a miniscule amount of USPA. Therefore, the loss would be insignificant and the college students would be able to compete. The actual jump prices should be regular price plus 1/4 of the camera man's slot. Or the price should be set at a specific number (a reasonable one) and you have as many jumps as necessary at that flat price...somewhat like the unlimited jumping boogies at a specific price. The registration fee is just absolutely ridiculous for us to afford. It is kind of as if they are purposely segregating the entire nation (colleges) from competing against the military academies. After all, our tax dollars pay for the military academies to jump, while we are grounded with no funds to pay for the collegiates. When determining the prices for next year's collegiates, they should put theirselves in a college student's shoes. They must realize that we don't even make half as much money as someone who is working full-time after college. As for the Southeast Boogie you and Christina are hosting at U. Florida, it is sure to be a blast. Everyone from our club is really looking forward to it...except for the 12 hour drive each way. I sure hope that in addition to the FL, GA, SC skydivers, more colleges from further away come to the boogie. That way we could have a more diverse group of collegiate skydivers and it will be more fun...not as if it would not be fun in any case. Blue Skies, Soft Landings, Lewis D-25265
  8. I could say I have had similar experiences as you did. But, one, which was not completely similar comes to my mind. I had a Chem1&2 final exam but I was acing the class. I stayed up drinking the night before thinking that I could just get through the exam and get an A in the class. Well, I was so tired and hung over that I did very well on the difficult problems but horrible on the give-away problems. It's ironic. In the end, I got a B in the class. I was mad at myself b/c I easily could have gotten an A. Well, that was my freshman year...the year to make the majority of your mistakes. You learn and move on. Best of luck with the finals! If you are down in the DC/MD area, give me a ring and maybe we could jump together sometime (or some other people from our club too). Blue Skies, Soft Landings, Lewis D-25265
  9. Lolie, I hear you. I have been in school for 5.5 years now (got my BS and now I am working on my MS). I'm very burnt out. But, I still manage to make the exciting trips to places like Florida or Arizona on occasion moreso than going to the dz every weekend. That way, it feels a little more exciting everytime you jump and you have a more memorable experience going on a "skydiving vacation" every now and then. It really stinks when you don't have much money. But, school really should take a priority. Remember, you need your degree in order to finance your skydiving. It stinks, but the priorities really should be school over skydiving (for the most part). In the end, you will be happy you did it. Remember, skydiving will always be there for you for your entire life. School will not be. Get the tougher part out of the way first. Best of luck! Lewis D-25265
  10. Sorry, we are not in the WI/IL area, but we have about 16 people going from our club. It should be a blast. I heard Clemson is bringing about 10 people. Ga Tech is supposed to bring a lot and the same with U. Florida. I hope every college skydiver could make it to the boogie. it should be bigger and better than last year's awesome boogie. 11. I agree with Allison! the Florida collegiate boogie they had last year was a blast! A bunch of us (8) from u. of Maryland drove down there and loved it. Therefore, we are going again this year. this time, we are planning on bring 16 people down. This is definately worth the drive. In addition, you meet numerous other college skydiving students. Also, if you are planning on going and might have some club t-shirts, our club is planning on bringing ours down to trade with any school who wants to trade for ours. 12. AT, I talked with you over email and I fully agree with you. The prices are way too high! I understand the military academies get a lot of money for their jumps, registration, etc. Someone on rec.skydiving believes they should get that payment b/c they are serving the country, "smart", etc. I don't agree with this guy on that fully. But anyway, even if they are getting supplemented with money, we should should be subsidized quite a bit too. In fact, I think the registration fee should be LESS than the $40 nationals registration fee. After all, we are college students! I know that I can't afford $120 + jumps + flying + food + everything else under the sun even though I am making more money now as a graduate student. USPA doesn't seem to care about us the way they should. Then again, we make up a miniscule amount of the skydiving population. In addition to this, I believe whole heartedly (as per your suggestion) that we should organize a national organization for collegiate skydivers. We should have more regional competitions similar to NSL's matchups. This way, more collegiate teams could participate and more people would realize there is more to do with the club after you completed all of the AFF levels. I personally think that the board of directors have us so down on their priority list, that they may not take notice to our wants and needs. But, remember, persistance (by the majority of collegiate skydivers, not only a few) will allow us to obtain our goal. Blue Skies, Soft Landings, Lewis D-25265 Maryland Skydiving D-25265

  14. I just tried my friend's Wings container and loved it so much that I decided to purchase one. I found out from Heather that a few places are offering 30% off but this guy Matt Shanley (works at Wings but is a dealer on the side) offered me the absolute best price you could get in the world. He offered the container to me at a base of 30% off. Then, the options were sold to me at DEALER'S COST! My container which had almost every option on it was less than $1,200 (including S&H). also, he will put together your rig if you want to for a mere $60 (most riggers charge $100+). I highly recommend going through him. Just call up Sunrise and ask for Matt Shanley.
