  1. By no means was I implying that a helmet should be required. And for damm sure I was not implying that BASE should be regulated in ANY way. If you know me, I'd be the last person to want that. Just wanted to hear some opinions of the regular dorkzone users. Lastly, all you fuckers out there who choose not to wear at least a helmet good luck and don't burn in! I'm stoked for 1st light tomorrow AM. YEH-HA!!!
  2. After looking over the "Favorite BASE pics" thread, I noticed more and more shots of people not wearing helmets on their jumps. I realize this is nothing new as some people have not worn the brain cap since day one. Just wanted to get some input from those who don't wear a helmet. Do you want to look cool? Are you TO cool to wear one? To me (of course my opinion), it seems FUCKING STUPID!!!! I wear a shit load of body armor on 99% of my jumps. The exception comes when I'm climbing a 1500+ ft. A, or jumping in the "Valley", Norway, etc. where weight really matters on long hikes. However, I would NEVER leave the helmet behind. Other than a rig it's the most important peice of body armor I own. I was on the full tour for the Malaysia jumps this year. A helmet and knee pads were REQUIRED for every jump. I thought that was great, to practice safety and make it a requirement. Keep it safe ya'll.

    KL stories?

The winds were somewhat low but I just didn't assess them enough. Like I said in the other post, I fucked up and almost paid the BIG price. I am an experienced jumper just a large brain fart on that one. People jumped just before mine and after and were fine. Just the way it was.

    KL stories?

Long post SORRY!! The jumper in the tower strike part of the vid is me. That was not my 1st 180 but 1st object strike. I was taught by my mentor to keep limbs in and get your body armor (if you've got it which you should) "in the way" so it will take some of the impact as opposed to your bones. Sticking my legs straight out was probably not the "best" thing to do under the circumstances but it's what I did. I had a lot of the canopy's forward speed slowed down just at point of impact and I did not hit is very hard. It felt just like a hard stand up landing on concrete or another hard surface. My thoughts on BASE jumping have always been, you can go over emergency procedures in your head thousands of times and even practice them (skydiving/safer sites) however, when shit hits the fan it becomes a reaction not a procedure. Things happen soooo fast you tend to react instead of thinking about what you should do. Hopefully you make the right reaction and if not hopefully there's time to change it. I hit the tower in just under 3 sec. (know this from super slow speed video analysis) from the time of canopy pressurization. I did what I had to and came out injury free. Did have to change my undershorts though. Hope that helps 957 By the way, I was jumping in a straight head-wind and although the object is very over-hung, it can be hit. I have kicked my own ass several times for making that kind of decision-----fuckin' dumb ass!! Won't happen again!
  5. Ray Losli has some funny ass posts. Adding to his latest, I'm not at all suprised at this article. With all the wankers that jump there, some bad shit is bound to happen. This sport has gone from a few buddies getting together, sneaking around at night, jumping, then swizzlin' down some beers---to full scale media-whoreing events. It's only a matter of time before someone in the local community gets pissed at all the madness going on and shuts that fucker down. I would love to bandit jump Twin someday!!!! Out with the boogies and large public "events". Stay with the low-profile, chilled out trips with a few friends and lots of swizzlers. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
  6. i can't believe the dorkzone base forum has come to this............comparing injuries (BASE related or not)on the internet! why the fuck aren't ya'll out jumping instead of spreading non-informitive info. over a stupid internt forum??? what significance does this have to anyone? SHIT!!! we all know stupidity causes most injuries/fatalities so why don't people use this fourm as as means to educate the newbies? comparing what injuries you 've had and don't have, doesn't do shit for anyone. holy daytime television!!
  7. Thanks alot for the informative post on what happened. That detailed kind of information helps us all and I know everyone appreciates it. It sucks ass that it happens though. After recently loosing a close friend (Shannon), I know how hard it is and it makes you think even more when it's that close to home. Stay strong bro, and be sure to dedicate one of your next few jumps to him. It really helps. 957
  8. Wow, Skin has a way with words. Well said!! I could not agree more. I do think Twin is a great place to get some experience under your belt, but that is opposite of what (most) people are using it for especially at these large events. I choose to stay away (far away) from that place last w/e in fear of exactly what happened. All kinds of people, from different walks of life, trying to push themselves WAY too far, WAY too fast. I'm not at all surprised at what went down. Take a step back people, check yourself, and keep it safe. Wishing a full and speedy recovery to all who were injured.
  9. Been trying to get a hold of them for several days in reguards to an order. Anyone know if there out of town? Thanks in advance

    BURNING SITES

holy shit, this guy magot is a fuckin' re-tard. based on his posts and reading about his dumb-ass decisions in moab during the last turkey boogie, i can't believe BASE jumping is going that way. sorry for flying off the subject, but what a joke. i wonder why i can't get away from reading dorkzone??? pure entertainment!! i hope this sport doesn't implode!
  11. this shit on dorkzone makes me laugh. bottom line.................., whether it's ethics, attitude, feelings, thoughts, emotions, etc., jimmyh dayblazes and fucks with local (and popular) sites for his glamour, publicity, ego, attitude, self-worth, etc. he wants, needs, and thrives off the attention. teaching a no-experienced 16-yr-old chick to BASE jump off an already "hot" object was a bad call. does he give a shit? fuck no!! all he cares about is the attention. was this thread originally started to discuss ethics vs. attitudes? coming from HIM, i think not.
  12. Just wanted to throw out a big condrads to a jumper buddy for finally getting his B. Oh yeah, he also opened it. Thanks to all the GC as well. Now for the ####. Just curious what we're up to now...................1100??? Keep it safe ya'll
  13. Got this e-mail today and thought it should be displayed publicly (I hope I'm not repeating it, if so.....sorry). Dear ABP Action Alert subscribers: It has come ot our attention that many of you are submitting comments to the draft 2006 NPS Management Policies during the public comment period which ends February 18, 2006. This message is to caution you against submitting comments to the draft management policies document: there is no need to do so because NPS Headquarters HAS REMOVED the BASE jumping prohibition language at 8.2.2.7, and any comments submitted may cause NPS to REPLACE section 8.2.2.7 in the final document. With your help, the ABP was successful in convincing the NPS to remove the section on BASE jumping from its management policies on the premise that it was: 1. discriminatory because no other recreational user group had to jump the additional hurdle of seeking a Director\'s waiver to the management policies for access. 2. not necessary because NPS already had enough authority to regulate backcountry parachuting under section 8.2.2.4, Backcountry Use, and 36 CFR 2.17. 3. removed from superintendents the discretion to allow an activity in their individual units, where such decision could be more thoughtfully made. The ABP realizes that all of you are anxious to gain access to public lands for backcountry parachuting, and we appreciate your efforts in commenting on the proposed 2006 draft, but this is not the appropriate time or venue to submit comments related to backcountry parachuting. Please refrain from submitting comments as doing so may jeopardize the work you and the ABP have accomplished thus far. We will keep you abrest of any news when it truly is a news item; right now we must be patient and wait until the final 2006 Management Policies comes out - minus the old 8.2.2.7 section on BASE jumping. The ABP is already in consultation with various target units of the NPS; as soon as the final 2006 NPS Management Policies is released without the language on BASE jumping at 8.2.2.7, it will enter the next phase of access to public lands for backcountry parachutists: unit-level recreation use planning. At that time we will notify you and ask that you submit comments to those efforts. THAT IS WHERE YOUR COMMENTS WILL BE BEST FOCUSED AND HEARD. We appreciate your enthusiasm and look forward to delivering good news in the near future. Until then, please sit tight! Sincerely, K. Gardner Sapp Executive Director The Alliance of Backcountry Parachutists, Inc. P.O. MTV's True Life

I don't have cable nor do I watch a lot of TV but heard from someone today that the Ture Life show on MTV will have a BASE jumping section. Anyone with MTV heard about this? If so anyone know who the jumper is? I remember awhile back on Blinc someone MTV asking for jumpers to response to this.
  15. Skin, I don't know you but do wish to meet and jump with you some day. Your post was well put and absolutely correct. I AM a local and (used to) jump this site regularly. I think this guy is very incapable and made an ASS out of himself both on TV and within the community. I laughed my ass off for days after hearing the phone call and TV interview. Keep those posts coming!!
  16. I don't care what anyone says.............the guy is still a fucking idiot!! Just because he posts an apology on the internet, does not excuse him from what he did (or has done on previous jumps). If he were standing in front of me right now I would say everything that I'm saying on here to his face. Yes, it does take balls to admit on a public forum that your a jackass and a whining cry baby, but to do it behind a computer screen is WEAK! Why not say exactly what he said in his post, for the interview on TV? Come on.......three major incidences in less than a year. The guy is a walking (or jumping) disaster waiting to happen. Obviously he has very little logical thought process going on in that wasted head of his. Meeting and talking with him, I could tell right off the bat, he was someone I did not want to assoiate myself with. In fact, he called me shortly after we met to jump this very site and I never returned his call. Gee I wonder why?? Would any of you feel comfortable jumping with him now that you know what kind of a person he is? My point is, people need to stop feeling sorry for him just because he posted his "true after thoughts". The fact of the matter is he has burned this site (and possibly many others near by) to the ground and he will probably do it again (as DexterBase has said). I just hope it's not in any of your local areas. John, quit while you're ahead JACKASS and leave the mess for the rest of us to clean up!!
  17. I am an active Nor-Cal jumper and I know this guy (only briefly). He is a complete idiot and far from a responsible jumper. The fact that he is still alive, surprises me! It's so sad about the future of this site, as always, it only takes one fuckin' dumbass to screw it up for all the rest of us! Happy jumping to all and PLEASE stay responsible and safe out there!!!!!!!
  18. Thought I would throw this out there. Anyone looking to share a rental car out of Denver (DIA) for the Games? Inbound flight arrives Fri. Oct. 7 at 3:40pm. Outbound leaves Tues. Oct. 11 at 11:30am Let me know
  19. PerFlare, Glad to hear you finally made it across the big pond to our side. I will never forget the jump in Stockholm last summer. Send me a note at base957 (at) gmail (dot) com I would love to hook up this w/e if you're still in town. If not, we can connect at the Go Fast Games. Skol, Daren
  20. So no one has info where the jumpers stay/party??? Thanks to all who have posted. Hope to see you there
  21. Just wondering where (what hotel/motel) most jumpers are staying for this years Go Fast Games event? Is there a central place in Canyon City like Motel 6 in Moab for the Turkey Boogie? Thanks in advance

    Keen 'N Able teaser

when i first saw radix (or whatever the hell it is) there were several local objects i jump and try very hard to protect for myself and others. they were being day blazed and totally disrespected. i told all my friends not to buy that shit b/c of that very reason. boycotting his videos is a great idea and i encourage everyone to do the same. i have not seen the teaser for the new one, but i can only imagine!

    Ca Locals

That is truly a sad situation. With no respect for other jumpers, I can't believe these assholes sent the photos in. As said before, you can't blame Skydiving for this---they are only doing their jobs. I live only 15 min. from this site and jump it on a regular basis, but in a way where others can continue to jump it safely (bust factor wise)! That's the way it always is--it only takes one person to fuck it up for everyone else!
  24. i went to school in durango and lived there for 5 years. as far as dropzones moab, ut will be the closest. when i lived there that dz did not exist. then there is a dz in alb., nm which is about 3.5-4 hrs drive south. moab should take you about 2.5 and you can hit up the awsome cliff there as well. call jimmy or marta at apex and they will put you in touch with the local jumpers. not many local sites in durango. i don't know the "e" that tom is refering to. last time i was there in nov. i looked into a short "e" that you can see from town (didn't have my rig so i didn't research it too hard). don't know the legal status though. ask some locals in town about the land it sits on. may be national forest. if you want some hot action in the bars hit up the ones all along main street. there are drunk college chicks in every one of them. will be a bit slow being that it is summer. also, there is 420 all over that town, just ask any long hair, dred-lock, smelly hippy!!! hope this helps, play safe bro d
  25. Just saw the O.L. N. show on BASE. Props to Jeb and the O.L.N. Gave respect to Dwain and for the most part showed a positive light to the sport. Well Done
