  1. Was well done I thought and is worth a watch. https://www.itv.com/hub/the-parachute-murder-plot/2a6096a0001 The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.

  3. Asked a very similer question when I started; ended up going witha tailor made RW suit. My thinking is I wasnted to get good at that before progressing to free fly. Go custom if you can. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4752625;page=unread#unread The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  4. 1. Is it a bad thing to learn to jump in a single week.? Best way to get started IMO, I spent 3/4 months getting my AFF. Due to weather / money / life I wasn't able to jump consistantly which meant it took much longer and involved a few retakes. Looking back it would of been better to save the cash up front and smash out the AFF in one go. Currency is key with this sport!! 2. Whats it like to learn at Freefall University? Ive read some not so good things about it on here but there all 5+ years old threads. Is Freefall University just a middle man? Skydive Spain is meant to be great, jumps from 15,000 feet and one of the bigger places over there. Just go direct through them would be my advice. 3. What do the Irish Parachute Club think of you coming into there club after learning to jump in Spain.? No idea about them specifically. Generally clubs are funny about you doing half a qualification in once place and switching over, as long as you complete your AFF and have the documentation you should be fine though they might want you to do a coached jump to make sure you're up to the required standard. This will be much more likely if you go uncurrent (more than a month or more). Best to speak to them. You thought about getting your A license and AFF at the same time? You'll save money as your already over there and should be able to get both nailed in a couple of weeks. Good luck! The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  5. Reading the excellent "Birdmen Batmen and Skyflyers" and came across the reference to 'balloon hopping' and Dobbs story. Interesting article on 'balloon hopping' here without much detail, apparently it was a pretty short lived experiment. Looks like it could be quite a laugh. http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/balloon-jumping-yesterdays-fun-and-dangerous-sport-1450733941 The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  6. Ryan Reynolds is another one who had a "near-death experience during a terrifying skydiving ordeal". Spoiler alert - yup another cutaway http://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/news/celebrity/2011/06/20/ryan-reynolds-nearly-dies-sky-diving The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  7. Yeah, bit gutted as was planning on seeing it while I was off for Christmas. Lot's of kick ass action scenes with some kind of weak plot to string it together - sounds right up my street. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  8. I had the fear something chronic up until jump 20 or so. Was a nervous wreck when that door opened and spent most of the ride on the way up freaking out. Just after I got my A I spent two days up at the dropzone, after doing 4 jumps on the Friday I was on my second jump on Saturday morning and realized I was just excited to be getting back up there and I'd lost the fear. Sure, I can still have some nerves on the first jump of the day - but that gut wrenching fear and the certainty something is about to go wrong (like being in a scene from Final Destination) is gone. Hear the same kind of story from pretty much all the jumpers I've spoken to. Next time you go jumping try to stay up at the DZ for a couple of days and get as many jumps as possible in The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  9. It's only a requirement once you pass your A license. Before this point students jump without. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  10. Seen a number of videos of jumps from the Princess Tower and looks like one of the easiest and safest base jumps. Has anyone done it? If so how many jumps / what license do you need? Think I heard jumps are organised once a year by Skydive Dubai but can't find any information on it. Need a load more jumps before considering it seriously but was curious. 11. Fractured a couple of metatarsals a few months back on a dodgy landing (flared too late). Had to take 6 weeks out to recover. Before the accident my landings were pretty good and was standing a few up. when I came back I kept flaring way too early and PLFing all of them. It's taken me 6 jumps or so but finally over it and last weekend both of my landings were perfect and stood both of them up. So yea, these things can really effect you even if the injury is very minor in the grand scheme of things. The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  12. Would this only apply to pilots flying on a BPA drop zone? I have a friend who a commercial license who teaches PPL locally; theoretically would there be any legal issues if he was to take me up and I was to land on private property? The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  13. Great advice. One of the FF instructors is doing a tunnel day in October and have just booked 20 minutes. Should have my A license by then and be ready for my FF1
  14. Cheers, lots of good stuff in this thread. Had a callback from Jedi Airware and the guy was very helpful. He recommended a FS suit with smaller grips which would be good for FS1 but could be used for free fly too. Weather looking good so will be heading up to the DZ tomorrow and can chat to my instructor about it all. Cheers for the idea's on manufacturers Joellercoaster, Symbiosis is a good call even if their website looks like it dates back to the 90's! Want to go for a new suit so I get a perfect fit, costs of suit compared to the rest of the gear I'll be getting make an extra hundred quid pretty moot. Would rather something which is made to measure so I can concentrate on my jump and not be worrying about things being too tight in the wrong places The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  15. Thanks Deimian, really kind of you. Might be a little small on me. MY measurements are... 5'11 feet / 180cm 11.5 stone - 161 pounds Looking at the Jedi Airware ones and they don't seem to offer a range of materials. Would I need to ask especially or as my dimensions are fairly standard would their suit just work? Does anyone have any experience of using these? 16. Good point regarding fall rates, always more to it than you think there is. Will ask my instructor what he'd recommend - hopefully will be Friday if weather plays ball! The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  17. Thanks for the advice, votes and messages. Impressed with how friendly the forum and whole scene is :) Now thinking a cheapish FS suit with booties would be the best bet. That way I've got a decent FS suit sorted which I can use to get through my FS1 and get alright at that before moving onto my FF1. Don't want to rush my learning and would rather nail the basics of FS before trying to get head down like all the cool kids. Might need to save a bit of a wedge for tunnel time before going down that path ;) The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  18. Cheers for the info, really useful stuff. So a FS suit with booties is a good first option, get good at belly down formation then get the free fly suit. Was looking at the Jedi Airware which seems to be pretty decent and reasonably priced. What are peoples take on the best brands out there? The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.
  19. I've just passed my AFF and am trying to choose which kind of suit to buy first. My first thought was to get a free fly suit as it's the kind of jumping I want to get into. It would also be the best suit to use in the tunnel. Having read a bit more about free fly and the requirement to get your FS1 before your FF1 it looks like I'll be needing a formation suit with grips to start with anyway. I'm now thinking the most flexible suit would be a formation suit with the grips but without booties. I've heard having booties would make it nearly impossible to sit fly. Would a formation suit without booties be fine for free fly and tunnel work too? Be interested to hear peoples opinions
  20. This is good to know, trying to keep costs doon so I can jump as much as possible but obviously though want to stay as safe as I can at the same time. I've got a much better idea of the kind of costs I should plan for now! Great advice on the tunnel, I've done one session at Airkix in Basingstoke with Simon Hughes who was outstanding. Next time I'll do 20 mins rather than the 10. Had to stop just as I felt like I was 'getting it'. Put a decent wedge away for completing my A License next month (weather permitting), now I've just got to work out what I'll spend on tunnel vs jumps! 21. Thanks for the info Joellercoaster. I'm based in Headcorn. How much do people usually spend on FS1 jumps? Know a few advanced FS guys at my DZ who I imagine are FS intructor rated / C license +. Do you generally just pay for their jump ticket + beer for instruction or do you need to pay ful whack for an instructor like on the AFF 4 to 7?
