  1. We don't believe that those are men who are controlling this. Modesty is the choice of many women around the world no matter what their beliefs are. There is an international hijab day, when women of all backgrounds and religions are wearing hijab as a sign of solidarity with those women who have to fight for their rights to wear hijab. Most find it empowering. Why? Because we stop being a sexualised object for men: in the street, at work, at universities, we are free of beauty cliches and weird beauty standards that are created by MEN. Why do you think it is inappropriate to walk bare legged/with deep décolleté/transparent/short clothes/or NAKED at work places? 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 2. The women that subscribe to religion as a defining factor of how to dress. Nope that is their personal choice that should be respected. They are not doing it because of you or me they are doing it because of their faith. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. 3. And who gave us the moral right to decide by the look of women whether they are hypocrites or not??? 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
  4. I'm not making fun. I'm curious where the norm is and where hypocrisy starts and ends. You are mocking those women. Those who were genuinely curious were asking questions like adults do in a respectful manner. Sorry but this is just a farce. Not even funny one. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 5. So weird to see grown men making fun of women's clothes 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
  6. To this day its a mystery to me what you westerners mean by 'burka'? Hijab? Niqab? Bushiyya? Afghan burqa? Batula? Khimaar? :) And black is a classic! Ask Karl Lagerfeld :) Black is not a requirement for a hijab though. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
  7. Photos I've seen show it worn under the jumpsuit. Looks safe enough. the only difference between hijab and no hijab skydiving is yes, hijab + jumpsuit. you can see it here: http://ww1.skyleague.com/images/uploads/teams/photo_2013_AE_DubaiLadies08.jpg its not a big/lots of fabric kind of scarf, its a snug one, perfect for under the helmet or for active sports. hijab is anything which is not skin tight, relaxed, anything that hides the body contour. no, skinny jeans are not hijab, wide-legged or relaxed fit yes, works fine, long tunic on top to fix somewhat tight pants might work as well. some girls are new to hijab, so they transition slowly, we can't judge people based on the level of their hijab you know? and its wrong to make assumptions about Islam based on people as well:) also, clothes that work fine in western countries stand out and are considered not appropriate for countries like Saudi Arabia, so there should be adjustments for that as well. long story short it should be modest. I guess it really depends on what the definition of is, is. That all looks pretty form fitting to me. What looks form fitting to you, mufti turtlespeed?:) 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 9. I have some real problems with state sponsored vengeance. Vengeance and the hatred that causes it are very destructive. Perfectly understandable, but very destructive. When the state starts doing it, then where does it stop? And yes, I'm perfectly aware that many prosecutors and cops operate on a "get even with the bad guy" mentality. LWOP ensures that the perpetrator will never be free again. Society will be protected, and despite any "adaptability", the knowledge that he will never again be a free man is a pretty strong punishment. Victims Rights is one thing. But granting them 'closure' by allowing them to vent their vengeance is another. Should we allow them to push the button on the "death machine"? Should we allow them to be a part of the firing squad? How about giving them a baseball bat and tying the guy down so they can cave his skull in? Where should it stop? The only thing an eye for an eye accomplishes are a lot of blind people. It is a complex issue with lots of important moments there is no doubt about it. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. 10. Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes. Henry David Thoreau A way of life that has a dress code? You can have it. Thank you, I'm enjoying it very much:) 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

  13. Life without parole is significantly cheaper than a death sentence. As is pretty clear from some of the responses, it's far more a "revenge" thing. A revenge in the cases mentioned above should never be underestimated. It is a very important moment for a victim or victims family, it is a psychological closure that they always desperately need. "Let him rot in the prison" doesn't work the same way a DP works since human can adapt to any life conditions, in 20 years he'll get used to solitary confinement, food that someone cooks and brings to him, the fact that he always has clean clothes and other nonsense. I do understand that not everyone supports DP as a punishment and I'm not intending to cause an argument, just expressing my point of view. Turtlespeed, You think that scum of the earth learn their ways and are safe to be sent back to society? 90% of convicted pedophiles go back to prison after committing the same kind of crimes again. Why would anyone want them to be free?? Do you have a family? Do u use that "find a sexual predator" app to see who is potentially capable of atrocities in your neighbourhood? I find the whole thing sick and twisted. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

  15. I suspect this is just angry talk, which I understand. This was a horrible crime. But just wondering, would you really support the United States government injecting this guy with chemicals and then cutting off body parts to make him suffer? Should this punishment be codified into law? I wasn't really serious. But I would like to see him subjected to Brittany spears songs at high volume for long periods of time. Now that's brutal. I might prefer dismemberment
  16. Yes we can marry cousins so they are considered close relatives aren't they? English is my third language so don't be too harsh on the words that I use please 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
  17. It really depends on what exactly happened with ligaments etc have u done an MRI scan? That's the only thing that can show all the details of the injury (since it shows both soft and hard tissues). If ligament is torn then it might take over 2-3 months to heal fully and for pain to go away. Please don't rush to get back on feet and when you do, wear firm shoes that will support and protect ur toe. Get well! 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 18. Hi Suslique, Thanks for your refreshing and (for this forum), unique and rare perspective. I've been posting in SC for a while and I don't recall reading a post from Muslim woman. I see you quote "oppressed" in jest above -- but, living in a free society and seeing Muslim women wearing clothing from top to bottom on warm and sunny spring days while most other people (including the men accompanying women in said clothing) are wearing whatever they feel is most suitable to the weather -- can you kindly share your personal take on this dress code that your religion requires? Genuinely curious to hear your views on this. Thanks, Hi there, thanks for kind feedback Well all of abrahamic religions stress the importance of modesty for both men and women and have almost similar approach regarding the dress code. The purpose is simply said -- modesty. As someone who decided to wear hijab I her 20's I want to assure you that when its hot its hot both in sundress or hijab. Hijab is even more comfortable at times since skin is not exposed under the sun and in summer we wear breathable light fabrics anyways. personal benefits as I see them go beyond the modesty. There are two moments that I feel are very important: 1. No more sexual objectification; 2. Women don't feel societies pressure to fit into certain fashion/beauty trends which makes women more confident. Hijab is not only clothing but also attitude and speech. There's a hijab for men as well BTW:) generally speaking (for men) clothes should not be skin tight, especially between navel and knees. Eyeballing females (and vise versa) is forbidden etc I.e. they should be modest as well. My own experience with hijab was the feeling of freedom and liberation. I've never liked the unwanted attention of men and getting rid of that was priceless. Im still living an active lifestyle, so hijab was never a problem for me in this case. Some people think that we wear hijab 24/7 its not true:) its only compulsory in front of non-blood related men. We don't wear hijab in front of husband, women or close unmarriageable men relatives. I want to stress the fact that there is no compulsion in religion! If someone somewhere is forcing their daughters/wives to wear hijab it has nothing to do with Islam, its cultural crap. Today especially in western world women are actually fighting for their freedom to choose hijab and wear it! Some have to deal with their families and some with their governments. Which is ridiculous, government should keep itself away from lives of their citizens. Today they will forbid Muslim women wear their hijab, tomorrow they will intrude in private lives of non-muslims. Anyways, if you have any extra questions, feel free to ask me:) Cheers 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

  20. I wouldn't worry about the D, if you get sunlight. That said, I'm on D3 supplements for a few months, since my level was 1/3rd of what it should be. The amount of iron, and the fact that it is consumed along with calcium in the Soylent, means that not much iron will be absorbed. Also, you really want more C (125mg) along with iron, if you are trying to optimize absorption, and not consume any dairy/calcium/coffee/tea within +/-2 hours of the iron. I sucked my iron levels to pretty much nil a few years ago, as a combined result of many blood donations and not eating much meat. Agree. But nowadays people go crazy over sunscreens and don't get enough of vit D even in sunny weather. I personally don't use sunscreens at all. Yeah supplementing iron is difficult, I remember nothing worked after I had my son except red meat 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?' 'That is the only time a man can be brave.' George R.R. 21. I don't think there is very much soy in it. My mom looked at it and said the soy content is negligible. You're right though, too much soy as a constant main source of protein is bad. But the nutritionist in my life (My mom, a registered nurse) thinks it is not an issue for the small amount in this stuff. its cool to have a mom who can advise with nutrition. you might want to ask her opinion about two other ingredients that caught my attention: 1. sucralose (check out the medical study over here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24219506 ) 2. vit D2 instead of D3. nothing too critical, its just not optimal. there might be a link between low levels of Vitamin D and prostate cancer. 23. i don't like the idea for myself but there's one moment that you might find interesting. do you know that soy is a phytohormone? it mimics estrogen in the body. its a bad idea for anyone especially for males. especially if you drink it multiple times a day every day. plus its not organic or non-gmo soy, so that is also not the best choice for constant consumption. 25. I am the night http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121107210534/disney/images/4/49/Dark_Wing_Duck.jpg :D RigerLee i had the similar feeling while driving through mountains at night. want to hear my story? how about finding a writing on the dust under the bed where nobody can possible squeeze themselves? there were many other factors that excludes human input, one of them: when you try to write on the dust the dust accumulates on a finger (or whatever is used for drawing/writing) which makes writing messy. well in my case it was written perfectly clean. i copied the text on the paper but unfortunately lost it. there was no internet back then and the writing didn't make any sense to us, just bunch of letters mashed up together. and yes i still think about it from time to time :/ Correspond back..... ??? my mom was terrified! she was obsessively cleaning the floors since then lol its funny and all but it won't leave me alone, I'm living in the ongoing intrigue mode 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?'
