  1. I like the idea! Instead of having the glass tube contained inside a building, have it free-standing on top of a tall building, so that you are hundreds of feet above the ground. That way, when you look around, instead of just saying walls, you would actually get skydiving-like scenery. That would be awesome!
  2. That's an expression that means he heard nothing in reply. Like sitting outside on a quiet night when all you can hear is the crickets chirping. He didn't actually get a box full of bugs. I hope!

  5. They can start by taking those 350 Bills that have been log-jammed sitting on Reid's desk, and start putting them up for a vote. Up or down. One or the other. But don't allow them to just languish with no action. Everyone will now switch roles. The democrats, who have been defending their actions, will now become the complainers. The Republicans who have been the complainers, will now become the defenders. Everyone switch hats... now!
  6. Need more info... Was the loop brand new? Where did it break? At the loop? The knot? Somewhere in-between? What kind of material was the loop made out of? 550-cord? Spectra? Do you use a leverage tool to close it? How do you remove the pull-up cord when the rig is closed? Are there burrs on the grommets? Sharp edge on the loop washer? Show everything to a local rigger and have him examine it. Yes, something is wrong. Might be the rig. Might be the loop. Might be you. If it broke on jump 6, you probably should have noticed something wrong on jump 5, and replaced it.
  7. Oh, thanks. I thought it might be an airport code. That might be a common abbreviation in the PNW, but I don't think the rest of the country knows it, especially down here on the FGC.
  8. Well that does it! No nuclear reactor for them!
  9. Click "Dropzone" above. Search Louisiana.
  10. The only thing that comes to mind for me is this: For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail. But I don't think that's what you're looking for...
  11. This begs for a satellite photo link of your new airport so we can all admire it with you...
  12. Another story with a photo of Ann Barbarich: http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/62847694/air-nz-pilot-collapses-after-landing-dreamliner I always like to see photos of people that are being talked about...

  14. Re: Candy cigarettes. Nice to know they're still available. I figured the political-correctness police would have outlawed them by now. Other fun childhood candy: What about pixie sticks? Those straws that contained flavored powder inside. You would bite off the end, spit it out, and pour the powder into your mouth, a little at a time. How about those little wax bottles containing flavored liquid? What were those called? You would bite off the top of the "bottle", and pour the syrupy liquid in your mouth. For a real treat, you just popped the whole thing in your mouth and bit down on it, for an explosion of flavor. And you could chew the wax too, like gum, although that never did anything for me.
  15. If I throw a stick into a moving stream of water and it floats away with the flow of the stream is that drag? Maybe it is "going with the flow". In order to have drag you must have a Force and a Resistance. Yes, it's the same thing. The stick in water has nothing holding it back so it floats along freely with the current. No drag there. Likewise, a pilot chute thrown into 120 mph air has nothing holding it back (at first) and floats along freely with the 120 mph air surrounding it. Only when the pilot chute hits the end of the bridle does there become resistance to going with that flow, and therefore drag is produced. What do I win? A free Racer?
  16. I want two answers! 1 & 2. The spring gets it a foot or two off the back. Then the pilot chute, even though there's no resistance back through the bridal yet, still has some drag in the high speed air. Like tossing a napkin out a car window at 60 mph. So it seems like it would be both 1 & 2.

  18. To get to Laredo, you've got to pass through Nuevo Laredo, the town on the Mexican side of the border. https://www.osac.gov/pages/ContentReportDetails.aspx?cid=14358 http://www.valleycentral.com/news/story.aspx?id=1029431 I ain't going there, but you're free to make your own choice. Carry a SAW and a bullet-proof vest.
  19. Yes, some pilots will get so annoyed at skydivers constantly making their working conditions miserable, that they will retaliate by cutting you short on altitude. So, keep your pilot happy, and hold your farts in until you're out in freefall.
