  1. Also if you're not in a hurry to get a helmet. Buy some Bonehead bone bonds and use them to purchase an Aero. It's lighter than the cookie, visibility is just as good or better and with all the shims, you can get the perfect fit. Using Bone Bonds, I managed to get a brand new Aero for 300usd
  2. Thanks for the heads up, I will be heading down to Perris to demo canopies either this weekend or next.
  3. I haven't talked to my instructors abut downsizing yet since I'm not ready to downsize from the 200 I'm currently jumping. My train of thought was getting a Pulse 190 and Optimum 176 into a Wings W11 (made for a PD main 150-170 and PDR 160) and downsizing accordingly until I hit a 150 main and 160 reserve loaded just over a 1.1. For me it's all about the freefall, the canopy ride is just a way to get down safely! I've heard way too many stories of broken backs and legs and am in no hurry to get there... But if LPVs dont like dirt, I might not actually do this since Taft is pretty much the desert...
  4. Thanks a lot for the input! My home DZ is Taft so lots of dirt. I might stay away from LPVs for that reason. I am getting a new rig together but wanted to be able to use the container for as long as possible with the possibility of downsizing at least twice since I'm just starting out.
  5. Thanks for the heads up! I'll be good on the max loading for a while. My exit weight is 170 tops (I weigh roughly 140). This is going to be my first rig and I want a container that'll allow me to downsize in the future so I'm looking at LPV Reserves and a Pulse as my first set of canopies.
  6. Thanks for the input guys! I had not looked into the nano. I will ask more around the DZ and maybe take a trip down to Perris to check out the demo program.
  7. Hey guys, I'm looking into purchasing my first rig and was thinking of getting a low pack volume reserve so I can get the largest reserve I can into a container that'll last me a couple of years. All of the threads I've read on LPV reserves are pretty old and outdated so now that the Smart LPV and Optimum have been out a while, does anyone have any input on them? How small do they pack? I'm specifically looking at something in the 190-170 range. How do they fly in comparison to other reserves? I've asked around but nobody I've talked to has actually flown either of these. Any input is appreciated!
  8. Forgot to update this after the jumps! We jumped out of Perris on Saturday, June 27th and had a blast. First thoughts: Wow, this place is massive! Being only exposed to Skydive Atlanta which is a much smaller dropzone, I did not expect this place to be so big! Kind of a pro and con. brought in 11 tandems, all but one of which had some kind of video package attached to their jump and my re-currency jump. Deal I got was their discounted rates for video packages described on their website and once I get to my A-License, one free jump per tandem brought in so I was a really happy camper. Everyone had a blast, two of them are actually thinking of starting AFF! One starting next week. It was really clouded all day and we had a weather hold for a couple of hours but the amenities were awesome to keep people entertained and full while we waited for our group to be called. Once the weather hold on students was lifted, the skies cleared up for some great jump videos. Once we were all back down another storm rolled in so we pretty much got very lucky! After the two loads we got back in the car and everyone passed out hahaha. So overall, mission was a success. Thanks to all who chimed in. I will keep jumping out of here until I get done with my A license and can get some of my B reqs out of the way. Does anyone know if there are coaches around willing to jump for plane tix and beer (system at skydive atl) or is the best way to get through the requirements is through the skydive school? It's a little intimidating to see so many jumpers doing their own thing and I didn't get to talk to any of the fun jumpers. Thanks again! P. Sosa
  9. thanks I'll bring it up to hom next weekend after jumping it a couple of times
  10. I just bought a jumpsuit for dirt cheap but the grippers seem 'deflated' (dont know what word I'm looking for). Is it possible to open up the grippers and fill them back up? I'd contact the manufacturer but it's a dive-rite suit and I hear they've been out of business for a while. I will ask at my dz. just wanted to hear saner opinions! Thanks!
  11. Definitely! Almost happened to a friend.
  12. I hope he gets more than that. When I started, Skydive Miami had a rule of "bring 1 tandem, get 1 jump ticket" Definitely bringing swimwear! If I manage to get jump tickets out of it that would be great although am not counting on it since they never mentioned it. It seems like I'm gonna be in california for longer than the summer so I'll also get to check out some other dz's :)
  13. You were right! I managed to get up to 35 people to say they were going at first, then when it came to serious business it dropped to 20 and when it came to the deposit it dropped to 11. Crazy how people just bail like that. Since the number of jumpers dropped considerably and most of them wanted a cool video, we decided to go to Skydive Perris. Although it is the most expensive option per jumper, the extra amenities will keep the crowd entertained afterwards. Thanks for your input!
  14. I'm working on it! Need to finish putting a rig together first!
  15. They never mentioned this when I contacted them... =S
