  1. Thanks. I just bought a Vegas Platinum. Capturing video is easy indeed (why have a spent 400+ USD on UMSP8 that was discontinued a few days later..).
  2. I bought a Sony HDR-FX7 for ground shots. Great picture quality ( but having problems capturing hdv stream - Ulead Media Pro 8 is such a crap) and I was trying to get some frame grabs as jpeg. Ulead Capture (that I normally use to frame grab from dv does) not recognise mpeg2 files that were created by Ulead Editor from m2t file captured by HDVSplit (even though these mpeg2 files can be edited in Ulead Capture). Perhaps you have any idea how to obtain full quality frame grabs from my tape? Thanks..
  3. "According to our plan considering a world-wide breakthrough we also intend to provide safe simulation circumstances even for opening parachutes following the installation of this machine." That statement is as serious as the windtunnel itself, which should have opened 2 years ago acc to plans. But at least no one will die (at least not yet)
  4. That helmet may protect against impact (i.e. hitting the plane or ground with your head) , but it is not what we were talking about, which is stretching/compressing of the spinal column through deceleration forces. Some pros appeared to us straps attaching their helmet to spine to prevent tilting forward of the head on opening, for jumps with really heavy camera equipment (several kilos). Probably not very practical for everyday jumping.
  5. My surgeon said that after the inner content of the disc spills out the disc will still close, but I am not an expert. It definitely will we weakened. As for the opening - the lumbar part definitely compresses. The neck though is likely to stretch as your head tilts forward, which damages the tendons that keep verteabre together and also creates uneven pressure on the anterior part of the disc making it prone to bulging and rupturing towards the cervical column. I am also the most afraid of the openings. Try to protect my neck, especially with photo/video equipment on my helmet. Basically tilt my chin against my chest and/or put my fists under my chin.
  6. Just read your other post and also realised its your neck. After like 40, everybody seems to have certain degeneration of the neck. In skydiving you can encounter very heavy openings that further damage the discs and tendons. Definitely talk to a doctor.
  7. I am not a doctor, just another patient It usually depends how stable that segment is. There is always a risk,I guess, also a risk of injuring adjacent disks. But I am sure there is plenty of people around jumping with compressed disks. Strong surrounding muscles are definitely a plus, so consider doing regular rehab exercises. Sports medicine specialist will tell you more.
  8. I ruptured my L5S1 last year and had a surgery. I am quite surprised you have such mild side effects. Ruptured disk is normally painful and would affect the surrounding nerves. You should definitely talk to a good doctor and definitely avoid any strenous activity for at least several months. If you strain that ruptured disc the jelly-like content of the disck may eject into your spinal column causing serious, perhaps irreversible damage and this will also permanently damage the disc itself. You should let that disc to heal and close. This will take at least 3 months I believe, but your doctor may recommend taking a 12 month break as well. Believe me, it is definitely worth it if you want to be physically able in the future. Don't jump with a ruptured disc!
  9. When did it happen and what are the symptoms?
  10. No, Canon 15mm lens does not rotate. But you can't put a filter on it either, due to it's design.
  11. I love my Canon 15 (1:2.8). It's a great lense, sharp, crispy images. 10-20 is bigger, heavier and I did not the quality of pics that much. Attachment: The "Canon 15_1" pic is significantly cropped (still good quality)
  12. I second that. Had both Conceptus switches (bite and tongue) break down, one in a middle of a boogie, where I was taking pictures only after a few dozen jumps. Replacement doesn't do much good if you are in Europe, either. My home made may be ugly, but is so much more reliable
  13. My experience and doctor's opinion is that ACL reconstruction is only fully successful when the patient is athletic, willing to do the rehab hard and for long months and also continue with leg strenghtening afterwards. I've seen guys doing pretty bad after reconstruction. But they were those who always complained at the rehab sessions of exercises being tireing and painful. My exercises were also tiring and painful, but I often went home and did another session on my own. It's about what your shape was before accident and how badly do you want to get there again. It's also about how hard your physio is pushing you. Some are less successful in getting their patient into max shape. I've seen constant improvement, although in decreasing increments up to 2-3 years post-op. After that you still have to pay attention to exercise that leg, even a bit more than the other leg, as apparently it has the tendency to weaken again if left unattended. I've been doing dozens of different exercises. Thousands of repetitions within a session. It's probably still not too late for you to start, but you have to understand that some sort of exercise should become a part of your everyday life. It was basically all sorts of short range repetitive movements in a straight-legged seated position with weights on my ankle. Later squats, leg curls on a mashine or standing with weights, leg extensions on a machine, stationery bike, running, swimming (front/back when your legs stay relatively straight). BTW bike is great for your knees, if you use high cadence/moderate resistance (cca 90 rpm). Smaller weights - 3x100 per exercise, larger weights - 5x20, bike - 30 minutes, 100 squats (both in narrow and wide stance). It would normally take 45-90 minutes each day. After couple of months you can reduce it to 25 minutes 3 times a week with selected exercises. If you do a search for ACL rehab on the net you will find some examples of exercises with pictures. Best luck
  14. I believe it is really dangerous to have black/dark canopy. Almost invisible in peripheral vision. There were a few team black canopies at our dz and I remember a few close calls few years ago. Unless you like to be a practice target and danger for yourself and others stay with nice bright colors
  15. I will be in Tampa for a few days. Do you know a photo/electronics shop, similar to BH in New York nearby Tampa?. I'd like to buy some lenses, and that would be a perfect ocasion.. (they are so much more expensive here)
