  1. Too bad skydivingmovies.com is no longer around. There is a good video, one that I show in my wingsuit presentation, that shows a cluster flock falling off the ramp at rantoul where purple Mike had a premie deployment with his base pouch along with one other right out the door. The thread is still out there in the forum but the link is no doubt dead. BASE pouches are for BASE jumping, not skydiving, its that old saying, use the right tool for the job. 2. Can't say I have any experience with these but I came across it and thought I'd share. http://pivothead.com/product/product.php "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  3. This. While it may not be done by many in the civilian sport market any more, there are systems today that require you to roll sections of the nose towards the center cell and place them inside the nose of the center cell respectively. 4. I posted this poem in the thread 8 years ago so I think its OK to repost it again now for others to enjoy. This is one of my favorites since it was written by our own Freeflyhol(Holly Kish) "Every day I realize more and more how perfectly wonderful life is. I am truly blessed to just be here, enjoying this moment. Putting these mere words on paper can't nearly describe my diverse range of emotions felt on a daily basis. I am but one soul standing at the tip of an iceberg cascading down, called life. Perhaps I should rephrase this. I am at the bottom staring up upon this angelic, crystalized, God-sent perfection, on my journey up." 5. The system is called the HUPRA. Do a search for it on the forums here, its been discussed before so there are a few threads on it. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  6. Yes, I've spent a good deal of time there and in other parts of the country. There is a parachute club but it only operates every 2 weeks. The flight is out of Bogota and you fly about 35-40 mins to the DZ in Flandes which is 6000 feet lower than Bogota. The flight in is lift #1 so no AAD unless you have a Vigil and offset it the 6k feet. You can land if you wish but most jump in. Others travel by car to the DZ but that is several hours drive and not something I'd recommend you do if you've never been there before or don't speak the language fluently. As for things to do, Bogota is sort of like New york city, always something to do at any hour. I'd recommend you stay down around the Parque 93 (park 93) area. It's one of the places that most people go to and you can walk around and see things and there are several malls. It's an upper end of town neighborhood area. It all depends on what you want to do. Best bet is pull the hotel doorman or the desk clerk to the side and tell them what you want to go see and they can tell you where to go or better yet, where not to go. 7. You can flip the Revolve's visor up with one hand and it has the most secure visor locking mechanism out there. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  8. The key thing to keep in mind is that in most cases, the user has an idea that the battery is getting low via the on screen indicator or the unit acting funny while on the ground. I cannot tell you how many times I've watched people keep pushing buttons on the ground to coax the unit to come on and then being upset when it turns off on the ride up or in freefall. Like any piece of equipment, attention to maintenance is required. If you can't remember when the last time you changed your alti battery was, you should probably change it to avoid having an issue with it when you need it. 9. An analog alti is a mechanical device that can fall out of tolerance unless it is tested and adjusted at regular intervals and yes they can wear to the point that they don't calibrate or hold a calibration very long. The electronic sensors being used in todays digital altis are more accurate, do not have moving parts and are more consistent, meaning if you place 4 analog altis side by side, they may have a variance in what they display at certain altitudes. 4 Digital altis placed side by side will read the same altitude. They typically work until they don't, which is usually due to a battery going flat or some sort of damage to the unit that causes it to malfunction. GPS altitude is not as accurate as a simple baro, the reason and explanation goes a bit beyond the topic of this thread and no civilian skydiving altimeter uses a GPS and a Baro to determine altitude. With that said, Alti-2 makes a Military altimeter that has an analog face but electronic guts that is far more durable and accurate than a similar looking mechanical altimeter. 10. Something to keep in mind and not everyone is aware of is that analog alti's typically have a +/- of 250 feet and are considered within tolerance. Digital alti's on the other hand typically will read the correct altitude within a more exact tolerance, usually within 10-25 feet or less. Both have their merits and their detractors, its a matter of finding what fits into your personal needs. 12. Yes, I've used a sharpie on components as have most other riggers and manufacturers. Every bridle kill line out there has been marked with a sharpie as have other pieces/parts at some point during their assembly, etc. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  13. +1, thanks for summarizing it for me.
  14. Gentlemen, I have removed a few posts from this thread. Let me remind everyone that this is a topical forum and not BF/SC. Please reserve the bickering to PMs amongst yourselves if you wish to go tit for tat with one another. As always, post your responses here and in PM's the same way you would if you were speaking to that person face to face. 15. You see that metal pin in the side shots in the review? Thats the hinge pin that holds the shield to the helmet, I seriously doubt you will break it or the CF helmet very easily through normal use. The helmet is quiet robust and very well made. 16. The Revolve does. You can read the review I wrote on it as well as see more pictures of it here in the gear forum. Here is one of the rear of the helmet, it provides the same coverage as your typical open face helmet in the rear since it is designed to be a full and or open face helmet depending on what configuration you need it to be in. 17. Dude, don't be a Glock cock blocker. In ALL of the years that I've known you, that has to be the funniest things I've seen you post. Touché sir. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  18. Doesn't everybody answer the door this way? BTW, how does one cock a Glock? All of mine seem to be missing an exposed hammer to cock. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  19. Have you read the thread at the top of this forum titled "So, you want to be a rigger" yet? Lots of links to the type of information you are looking for in that thread. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  20. It needs to be done at the time of manufacture at the factory, doing it after the fact is really not an option. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  21. The GSG 1911 is a great entry pistol to start on and progress to a larger caliber. Of the .22 cal pistols out there, this one has a fairly consistent track record where some of the others seem to be hit and miss on their performance/build quality. It's easy to handle, doesn't feel like a toy and approx 80% of the parts are interchangeable with the standard 1911 so you can actually tweak this pistol to your liking. I own one and have no complaints with it and I have easily several thousand rounds through mine so far, thats the great thing about 22 caliber rounds and price of ammo. 22. HERE's an excel chart that can be printed out and taped to the side of the door or carried inside a helmet for reference on how long to wait between groups. "It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
  23. I've actually had that rig on my back, it is a very comfortable set up and conforms very close to the body. Part of the reason is due to the "BIO Yoke", something that was designed by Airborne Systems and is currently on the Raider Intruder system which is replacing the MC-4 military system. It's a very well designed container and it does hug the body so the name curve is appropriate as it conforms to the wearers body quite nicely. 24. I read that article and think it's spin. I've carried a firearm of some sort since I was a teenager and my entire adult life, both in combat and while in the general public, and I don't assume everyone has a gun until I see it, be it on their hip or in their hands. Most responsible gun owners carry their weapons the same as most people carry a cell phone these days and most people around them don't even know about it. I think there is an agenda in that article and that the information in it is skewed to meet that agenda.
