  1. 3-1 Kings middle of 2....unless the Blues do something soon they are done. I like LAs chances against either the Preds or Coyotes. They might just get to the Cup finals! The Flyers looked unstoppable against the Pens and now they look beatable. Devils were a much better team tonight and deserved the win. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  2. Very good point! At least now it is more likely that he will have a good shot at a regular job so that we can find out. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  3. Those guys were all so gassed after what was a fairly fast paced game. I was hoping Holtby would outlast Lundqvist as he is a Saskatchewan boy and Blades alumni but no such luck. He is definitely making a name for himself though. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  4. Great game by the Devils tonight! Predators suspended two players.....they are in a tough spot for a team many have been picking to go to the final. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  5. I felt for the Panthers. They came back from being down 2-0, threw everything they could at the net and just couldn't get one to go. I thought the winning goal was one Theodore should have had. Five - hole...that really hurt. Ottawa just couldn't beat Lundquist despite putting huge pressure on in the third. We'll see if that was Alfredsson's last game. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  6. Let's add Braden Holtby of the Capitals to the list of hot goaltenders! 15 goals allowed in 7 games against the Bruins. 7 one goal games 4 of which went to overtime. Not bad for a kid who was called up a couple of months ago! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  7. I don't think Montreal. Carey Price is good enough...it's the rest of the team that needs fixing. Toronto.....maybe! Here's an article about possible destinations... I don't know about their choices...Toronto seems more of a possibility to me given the lack of goaltending and pressure to win. Luongo might be a fit there. I don't know if Edmonton would trade away any of their young prospects but I don't know what they have in the pipe for goaltending. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  8. Luongo just announced that he will waive his no-trade clause. He is gone. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  9. I think the Canucks are crazy to keep Luongo. He is too inconsistent when needed in big games. Schneider is ready to be #1 imo. The Sharks - Yeah, that's a huge mess. The Wings stayed with the old guys for too long and definitely have to cut some ties and get some fresh blood. Quick is awesome...but how about Mike Smith tonight for the Coyotes? 39 saves in a shut-out. The Hawks were ALL over the Coyotes for most of the game and he was there every time. Pekka Rinne for the Predators has also been outstanding. Any of these guys between the pipes for the Pens and they might still be playing. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  10. Another thing about the Kings/Canucks is that Luongo appears to be the backup until the Canucks can trade him. Schneider played very well last night and I think that him in net will make it harder for the Kings to prevail. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  11. I agree with pretty much everything you said below. Just want to say that for me there has to be a line drawn where, despite your hatred of an opponent and your desire to win you have to be a sportsman and not injure your opponent....especially the head shots which can leave guys with permanent impairment. Torres could have taken out Hossa without sending him to the hospital. I'd be all for permanent bans on repeat offenders like Torres. If they are willing to fuck people up so that they can't earn a living playing hockey (or anything else if their brain injury is severe enough), I have no problem with taking away their ability to do so. One suggestion I read elsewhere to help get teams to take this seriously is to reduce the number of players they can dress by the number of suspended players they have. Take away 1, 2 or even 3 skaters and it sure changes things. I think the Kings have got to be worried...the Canucks team they saw last night was a much different and better team than they have faced so far. The Sedins together are really something else. It looks like the Penguins may make a series of it....provided they can actually win a game at home. Murray Interesting question. I really don't think they do. Check out Crosby's comments. These are guys playing for the Holy Grail. I know that. But here's something else - the players aren't paid in the classic sense. During the regular season, if a player is suspended for a game that player forfeits a game's pay. These players already played out their season so they, in a sense, are not salaried. The teams get bonuses that are paid out to the teammates equally. So their loss for a game doesn't hit them. Might hit their team, but think the Hawks are gonna miss Hossa more than the Coyotes are gonna miss Torres? How about Ottawa losing their captain? What's the NHL doing? Officials are not calling it. Clowe playing a puck from the bench a couple of weeks ago got away with it (understandable - rules prevented supplemental discipline). But missed calls in the playoffs (Torres wasn't penalized, the Philly offside, etc.) Officials lose control. Shea Weber's slap on the gloves set a tone. I myself was noting how wild this was getting with Philly-Pittsburgh and teams that hated each other. I wrote a week ago: I foresaw intensity and hard hockey. But it's playing out like Slap Shot. The whole first round is being defined by cheap shots and concussions (perhaps the only happy person is Marc Andre Fleury - attention is being focused more on Asham and Neal than Fleury getting shelled).
  12. Seeing Hossa taken off on a stretcher and watching Torres leave his feet makes me sick. Do these guys have no consideration/respect for their opponents as another guy with a family to raise, a life to live and that it would be nice for them to do so without permanent brain damage? Given the numerous prior infractions of Torres I hope Shanahan suspends him for a season. The only thing that will stop the brutal unsportsmanlike hits is not being able to play and having no income. I'm not enjoying any of this headhunting horseshit. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

    New iPad

I have an original iPad and ordered the new one as soon as the presentation was over. I think it is a huge upgrade over the original an look forward to getting it in 7-10 days from now. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  16. Cundiff is taking all the heat but if Evans had squeezed the ball a bit better a few seconds earlier it wouldn't have mattered. I thought Flacco played a damn good game. Giants - Pats. I think the Giants can upset again. 17. Have to disagree with you Tom. I think the best, BEST English dubbed soundtrack was "What's Up Tiger Lily." Nothing else even compares. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

  20. Backups...pain in the ass until you need them :-) I have a Time Machine drive at work and have excluded everything except my data files for work (I have music, etc on there that I don't have Time Machine backing up. I also have another drive that I make bootable backups with using a program called SuperDuper! During busy season, I try to run this every day before going home and bring the drive home with me. After the first backup it only backs up what has changed. This way I have my entire system, applications, everything and restoring to a new hard drive or a replacement machine only takes a couple of hours and in the meantime I can boot off this drive and work on it if need be. Well worth the price!!! I also have used this when replacingmy laptop hard drive with a new large drive. I put the new drive into an external case, do a backup to it and then take it out and put it into the laptop. Most painless way ever devised of getting your existing system onto a new hard drive. I also use a service called Backblaze that backs up my data offsite. It works constantly in the background uploading files that have changed. It won't back up the system, etc. but it does a great job of keeping a copy of my data up to date. You can throttle the upload speed so that it doesn't interfere with your computers speed while you are working on it. Anyway, I am rambling on about the backup stuff that I do on my Macs in the hope that you may find something useful. As Quade noted above, look for large files that you change frequently as Time Machine saves every hour during the day, then saves one backup for the day and later one backup for the week and then the month I believe. This site may give you some good ideas for tracking down the cause. It has links to a couple of programs that will show you exactly what is being backed up. 21. No. From the quote referenced in my original message: "Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it to any of your devices." For example, In order to get music onto an iPod Classic it has to be on the computer that the iPod is linked to. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  22. No. From Apple's Web site: "A match made in iCloud. With iTunes Match, even songs you’ve imported from CDs can be stored in iCloud. And you can play them on any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC — whenever you want and wherever you are, without syncing. iTunes Match is just $24.99 a year.2 Here’s how it works: iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 20 million songs in the iTunes Store, chances are, your music is already in iCloud. And for the few songs that aren’t, iTunes has to upload only what it can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it to any of your devices. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality." -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  23. I have an iPhone 4. Just set my boss up with a new iPhone 4s two weeks ago. On Friday, he left the phone in an airport lounge in Toronto. Got on his plane, flew away. Called and let me know on Saturday. I went onto his iCloud account, locked his phone and had it display a message to call me at my home number. Two hours later I got a call from the person that had found it. Gave our Fedex account number yesterday and today it is back on his desk. iCloud is great! I finally have Contact and Calendar sync-ing across all my various computers and devices (Iphone 4, iPad, MacBook, iMac) that works on a hassle-free basis. Siri is pretty cool as well. I wish that I had more than just a bit of experience with it but I can tell you it blew me away when a friend of my boss picked up his iPhone 4s and asked it for the latest stock price on a small Canadian oil and gas company and it gave it to him in a couple of seconds. It is just in beta and I think will continue to get better and more useful as time goes on. One of the things about Android phones is the fragmentation in the market and the fact that if you buy one you are reliant on your carrier and/or manufacturer for any Android system upgrades. This leads to the possibility of all sorts of issues. Here's an article. The camera on the 4S gets great reviews. Lots of apps out there for photography to do all sorts of things. Looking at the whole ball of wax, I think it is hard to go wrong with an iPhone. There may be Android phones that suit you better but which one is it???? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  24. The smallest skydiver I have ever known was 4'9" and weighed 85 lbs. She started jumping in 1979 or 1980 using old conventional gear that weighed probably 50 lbs. She told me it was very scary being in harnesses that still seemed way too big even though they were tightened as much as possible. She also had a very difficult time moving around and climbing out of the Cessnas used at the DZ. She made several hundred jumps before hanging it up to have a family. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
