  1. *Good question...I guess it's the compassionate side of me that figures everybody can make a mistake or two...but THREE strikes, and you're out. And it shows that the pattern of behavior is unquestionably no accident, it was intentional and premeditated - if Ninja Bob wasn't stopped permanently, he would continue to harm others. The premise being - if you're okay with someone hitting Ninja Bob between the horns with a .308 but NOT okay with strapping him into ole sparky...you're only against the 'death penalty' in certain cases. For some it seems - Killing an 'Eminent threat' is only valid if it's timeline critical, like when the coin toss is in the air...when in truth it's valid until the person actually posing said threat to society - reaches room temperature. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  2. Okay ~ since we're postulating imaginary scenarios... There is a room with 20 people it, one happens to be a self styled nutcase ninja complete with razor sharp sword... 16 of the other people are milling about nervously in the far corner because 3 in that group can't 'mill around' anymore since ninja guy recently saw fit to remove their heads with his weapon. Ninja d00d seems to have a process / plan in play that has him randomly point to someone in the crowd every 10 minutes, flip a coin & if it comes up heads - you lose yours. ~ Now 'some' may speak in hushed tones to their personal magic invisible problem solver, asking for mercy. Others may blindly just sheeple around hoping either 'they' don't get selected or the bad guy loses interest and takes up synchronized swimming instead. ME OTOH would be watching anxiously for the hopefully sudden & final puzzled look Mr. Ninja makes, as he interprets the results of a Remington 700 in the hands of a state employed murderer. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  3. And thus you have logical recourse to address that - Become active in anti death penalty movements with both your time and money...pushing for amended legislation and encouraging those who believe like you to vote appropriately. And/or move to a different country that holds views on capital punishment in keeping with yours. Washington already has a moratorium.. and I did.. thanks for playing. COOL! As long as we're playing...one question I like to ask during a discussion of this nature, is where exactly do you 'draw the line' in regard to government 'state & federal' committing murder in your name? Wars both undeclared and legal tend to cloud the issue a bit as the definition of murder comes into question. But to use the definition along the lines of what you cited regarding the use of capital punishment... Most every law enforcement agency there is in this country, regardless of size, geographic location or demographics served - has a number of select officers within it's ranks who are specifically trained in the intentional and aggressive implementation of special weapons and tactics. On these teams there is one person or more, specifically trained with a skill the others usually are not..that person is designated as the 'sniper'. The entirety of the training and drills they practice extensively to near perfection - centers around killing a human being quickly and efficiently from a position of cover & concealment having no personal interaction whatsoever with their 'target / victim' other than ending their life without warning. You and I pay them for that expertise with our tax dollars...so in effect they do that work for us at our bidding. Just curious if you're okay with that? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  5. No - You interpret what they've written through your 'unique' frame of personal reference and having not agreed with what your interpretation of what they said is...you file 'them' along with the other things your individual personality disdains. Is it a mischaracterization to say that you consider everyone with an opinion which conflicts with your opinion, an uncouth ill educated vengeful caveman? Of course it is... Everyone has an opinion 'unique' unto himself, it's a personal belief that has been 'formulated' generally speaking, in the same way YOUR opinions have been ascertained - Belittling someone for an opinion they hold is ludicrous because you have no real way of knowing how or why they believe what the do...by merely labeling them in a 'not as good as you' catagory, what you're in effect really doing is exemplifying the closed minded caveman mentality you accuse other of propagating. That said ~ personally I like the death penalty, in MY case (despite what you may want to believe) it has nothing to do with eye for an eye vengeance. It's a deterrent for some...argue with statistics all you want, but I know for a fact in certain facets of our society the killing of a LEO is consciously discussed and refraining from such killing is strongly encouraged because death upon a guilty finding is guaranteed. One can not prove a negative - but I have no doubt there are a significant number of cops alive today because of the deterrent factor the death penalty holds. Sure there are problems with it...as mentioned above, many are 'front end' problems. It's most certainly not administered in a fair & just fashion, age, color & sex are variables most often cited during discussion regarding the discrepancy of it's use - and there is no denying it's a glaring farce in those terms. However, that doesn't take way IMO from the general concept that it IS an effective tool in the justice system. The old Texas _Some people just need killin'_ statement was quoted sarcastically in a comment earlier in the thread...another attempt to characterize those 'right wing, conservative Christian dumbass Texans' - well OF those things, the only one that fits me is, I'm a Texan who does happen to believe 'some people just need killin' In a 'perfect world' I agree, that would not be so - but I'm realistic enough to see we don't live in a magic bubble, that there ARE human beings on this planet that are dangerous and only live to prey on others. People who don't value the lives of their victims, who knowingly and purposely commit horrible & heinous crimes against the society they inhabit - have (IMO) no logical reason to expect that society would allow them to inhabit any place at all within it. It's not vengeance - When someone knows quite possibly the penalty to pay for doing what they want to do is ultimate & final - yet they do said crime anyway...they then have made a choice, THEY deserve the death penalty because they put them self in a position of being penalized in that way. 'Society' doesn't choose to put a criminal to death, the criminal chooses to place a value on murder above the value they place on their own life... ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  6. Gee...wonder why?! ~~ No accident report because there was no accident, IF they would have filled out an accident report without reasonable belief there actually WAS an accident, they would be filing a false report. They didn't buy her story either but out of courtesy just gave her a wink & a nod...it isn't fair - but it is what it is. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  7. Only way to really tell is to try them on and see how they fit, if there is a decent seal around your face. Everybody has a little different noggin geometry so what may work for me may not be so good for you. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  12. Interesting question ~ I surely would, heck compared to when I started jumping in the 70's - there IS no risk now. After a certain amount of time / experience, I think one does their all to mitigate what risk there is...would someone not yet at that 'threshold' still jump if it was 100% guaranteed? I wonder... ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  13. Ask to see the specific rider that states its not covered. I have never heard of someone denied medical treatment or insurance because of jumping. top You are confusing group coverage with individual plans. Years back I was in a group plan that specified no coverage for 'amature' skydiving, auto &or motorcycle racing ...and of course war. - I fought it and since I had over 1000 jumps at the time, they said I wasn't an 'amature' thus was covered. ?? huh ?? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  17. That's why I'd recommend getting YOUR story there asap - if/when it comes down to it, her 'later arriving' tickets could be argued as retribution against you, in court. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  18. I sent J-S this in a PM...but WTF, why not post it too... IF you have her name and what agency she works for - you need to compose a letter of complaint to her supervisor asap. The letter should be calmly written, recalling every fact of the encounter - day, time , road conditions, traffic conditions, exactly where it all happened. List the make, model, year, plate etc. whatever you can come up with... Explain the aggressive rude behavior, - the careless driving, the hand flip off...everything. explain she didn't initially identify herself as a LEO...(and given the slurred speech & bloodshot eyes you didn't believe her when she did. ) ~ ~ Believe it or not - a letter sent like that has tremendous effect. It gets put in her file & if she's as nuts as you describe, it wouldn't be the first letter there (hopefully) Get YOUR letter in before any tickets come (if any do) There ARE a lotta bad cops out there - this is about the only effective recourse a civilian has...use it. If/when enough complaints are filed - good chance out the door they go. *A retired cop teaching the CCW class I took a couple years ago, went through the whole file a complaint and then FOLLOW UP on it thing...He was a street cop then internal affairs - told some interesting stories of how assholes got away with a LOT until the complaint reports started coming in. I think I might have had a Dirty Harry type jerk get fired last year. ...he was in so much trouble prior to me, he was relegated to 'traffic waver' at the airport. Must have thought I was someone else because every time I saw him he'd go out of his way to hassle me. I go to the airport quite a bit - it was getting pretty ridiculous. Threatening comments, ordering only ME to move my car and drive completely around the airport and go through again, not let me wait like the 50 other cars. He even went so far as to reach into my car and put his hand on my neck... I documented it in writing and with a GoPro...sent a letter with a video card & next time I saw him he was working TSA security at the airport...no badge, no gun. Go ahead - MAKE my day! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  23. Interesting I use to do a demo annually not far from where they're made. I'd always stop in at the factory and pick up a few pounds of 'Belly Flops' ...the poor guys that didn't make it through inspection because of their shape. All flavors mixed together - sometimes there would some 'interesting' ones in there! Yum. Now i want a shot of jagermeister. No such thing as "A" shot of jager! Have you tried the new spiced jager? Nope...I don't drink that stuff - makes me break out. Doors, windows.....TEETH! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  24. Same with our own Leap for Lupus Foundation. Every ticket sold, every t-shirt sold, 100% goes to the University of Washington Division of Rheumatology research lab. Vskydiver, several other jumpers and I spend hundreds of man-hours and thousands of $$ out of pocket doing this every year. Our only payout is to DZ's taking up our LFL Charity Tandems. Even then, every DZ has given us a very generous discount rate. You can't beat the people in our sport. I'm always a bit hesitant regarding donations after a neighbor where we use to live always bragged how much money he made working a 'Just Say No' scheme. He was a professional Magician, he would do 'charity' shows under the Just Say No banner, in communities around the area. HIS take was 75% of the proceeds donated...which was bad enough, but he also ran a 10 person boiler-room cold calling nationwide for donations...his take was 90%. All legal...the charity is happy to get anything I guess. THAT said - we do give to a couple charities every year but I look pretty hard at them first. Heard an interesting 'testimony' not long ago at the gym...a guy about our age was telling how rough it was for his son who had returned from Afghanistan 100% disabled. Though he was helping as much as he could, his son & daughter in law were in really rough shape until WWP stepped in and gave assistance. ~appalling to hear 1st hand how poorly limited the VA was in their 'program' considering this young man gave his future for next to nothing is return assistance. The WWP & SPEC OP charities are now on our list... ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
