  1. I'm 46... ( ) Started just days following my 18th Birthday, and have made what averages out to be a little over 100 jumps a year since I started. Hard to tell these days! I was recently speaking with this 60+ year old gentleman... a very talented and current skydiver. Referring to gear and events from 'back then' When I realized he had no idea as to what I was talking about! We cleared things up when he said... "I just started jumping a few years ago, and only have 1700 jumps." WOW!
  2. www.uspa.org/news/index.htm#121803 From the USPA website... ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  3. QuoteAnd you can do it without goggles. Michael (aka Sparky) *** GRRRRRRRR! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  4. I plan on being there, I'll bring a spare pair of goggles! *** Oh Man! Sparky... That is just wrong...in SO many ways!! Quick, somebody get the knife outta my back! Hey...I thought I did pretty well... you try flyin' with the "blinkers" goin' full blast! (...and I wasn't even going to comment about what everyone was saying as to the 'reason' your jumpsuit was that color of yellow!) ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  5. Quote Al Saylor for National Director *** You might want to ask Jay about that! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  6. QuoteGet information, think it through, really think it through, and do what is best for you. Things change. That is what the old guys will tell you. They are right. *** About 10 years ago..or so! I had a packed in line over on my reserve... My 'then' rigger, video taped all pack jobs 'just in case' and it showed the error that was made... Anyway, It opened and began spinning... The reserve was an F-111 230 sqft. I traced what I thought was the line over and cut... oops.... try again... and once more...! I cut all but 2 lines on the riser group... which would have really been a mess had I kept hacking away! The spin slowed, and I PLF'd it in.
  7. Hey Sparky! I told you I could kinda fly... If I HAVE to!! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  8. Two things John... One; That was Katie Booth's 2nd Tandem jump... The first being into the North Pole! Kudos' on being accepted Katie!
  9. Oh Yeah.. Hey Bill Booth! We're all wondering!! By now Katie has gotten her mail... Did she get in?????
  10. It was truly an honor to be a part of that memorable jump! The crew dogs did a wonderful job... and i'm sure the post didn't intend to sound like the rest of us were there as 'support' to them. The whole focus of the jump was to have 100 canopies open and in the air at once! Which happened, .. and WAS impressive!
  11. Bill- Emailed you... There may still be a chance with some EAA friends. ..who knows. Just to clarify. ..Liberty Parachute Team will be represented by a couple of guys there, jumping on the 16th. ..but it's by no means "OUR" demo. I apologize to all if I gave that impression.
  12. Tony Was that the one you organized into the new hotel? I was on that one! Oh...and remember 'Hot Springs' ?? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  14. Well if we're going to have a wing war, I'll pull out my Classic 300 sq. ft. accuracy canopy! Pffttt! :-) *** Don't go there John! Like I said I have a couple Mighty Mac 325's... A 300 Challenger... A Goliath... And the 'Set 400' in a sport rig we use for the 2000 sqft. Flag! ...Hummm On second thought! We ought to put together a Stack using those old monsters! Enough of us could block out the sun! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  15. QuoteJim, I'm wondering what 170 & 190 you are using. Also what is your exit weight? *** The 170 & 190 are 'Z-Po' line products from Strong Enterprise' We developed a relationship with that company years ago and they've been quite helpful assisting our team with specialty products we incorporate into out Demo act. The thing I like about Strong gear, is that it is 'over engineered' in that it can take a lot of hard use and still work great. An important consideration with demo gear ...especially when one tends 'overload' it with extra demo junk. ....my exit weight is in the 250 range fun jumping ...and at times 320-340 lbs. doing certain demo acts. The Z-Po line of canopies are a great compromise of speed and accuracy. Not designed as pond swoopers...I can still salvage a bad spot, or contend with winds many other 'demo' type canopies struggle with. They all seem to be quite stable when sinking them accuracy style, with impressive recovery rates. Great control range, and stand ups are simple... All our canopies (from various manufactures) are the same color pattern, including the reserves ...if someone functions during a performance...only the sharp eyed spectators know! We use Strong Ent. harness & container systems with Strong Ent. reserves, We have a bunch of canopies in inventory of various designs and manufactures... Some I absolutely love for sport jumping... but don't work well in the demonstration arena. One that comes to mind is the Triathlon, a fantastic all around canopy for applications such as ours... but seem to 'wear' faster and in ways Z-Po's do not. (in my expierence anyway) ...I have 5 demo malfunctions ...most all from asking a parachute to do more than it was intended or designed to do... All 5 times were NOT Strong Ent. mains ...but I'm still here because of Strong Reserves!
  16. QuoteTake it as a compliment of the highest order. I'm sure that at the time, that proceedure seemed very practical and sane but, but .....but ..... well.... uh....God what were we thinking? Edited to ask "where and who?" ***
  17. QuoteOr, as Grouch would say: "Sure, but why a duck?" *** Ever try to stuff some SHEEP into your jumpsuit?! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  18. *** Really Jer ?! I've spoken to a few instructors from that 'bygone' era... that utilized the procedure, with varying degrees of success and similar outcome. As far as your 'Big Harry Balls' comment... I respectfully submit to you that at the time, I was merely following the recommended procedure I had been trained in. Believing my training and actions would successfully bring the event a happy ending... ...after all if it was in the manual, it must have happened enough for it to be addressed. No... I think the real 'Grande Balls' award goes to the instructors that follow a flailing student below their recommended 'hard deck' in life saving attempts that go against recognized procedure. But then again... You may have something there! I finally figured out where I thought I might know you from, We do indeed have a few mutual acquaintances... From stories recalled, with consideration of your experiences; I certainly can understand your comment within the context you undoubtedly meant it. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  22. QuoteIf it is ok with Al, I'll spot. Sparky *** Now Sparky... Please see the prior post in reference to the sacrafical FISH! No...you don't get to spot!! ..And I have a couple of 325 "Mighty Mac's" if someone wants a REALLY LOW wing loading!! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
