  1. From the USPA Web Site.... Board Meeting Successful (02/23/04) The February 2004 meeting of the USPA board concluded Sunday, February 22, in Alexandria with the following highlights: USPA will move its third-party liability insurance programs—individual member and demonstration—to a new company with more favorable premium rates. The new policy will go into effect on March 1. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  2. Some time back, at a California DZ... The waiver procedure included the participant actually reading the waiver on video, also stating that they were of sound mind and not under the influence of anything. The person was then taped holding their legal identification followed by them signing on camera. I don't know the facts, but was told just showing a copy of the video and waiver halted proposed litigation in their tracks... much like you experienced. Were the instances you refer to regarding parachute operations, or waivers of another sort? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  5. Just got an E Mail from a friend at the USPA Board of Directors meeting. It hasn't been voted on yet.. But it seems following lengthy discussion the insurance dilemma may be solved! If approved, continued coverage for both the General Membership as well as Demo liability will still be available. And if rumor is correct at a somewhat less expensive rate! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  6. Thanks Tony. Will do. In fact I'm hoping to get out to the left coast next week, I'm planning to make a few at Elsinore. Hopefully I can get some "Air with Jer" ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

He was one of the first to bring a Paracommander to the US from France. He would be the best one to get accurate history of the GoldenKnights *** Couple of corrections Tony- He's D22!! And I haven't been able to get through to Mr.B at that address for a while now? Any ideas?? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  12. Quote Days of Shorty and Elmo. I once returned Elmo from one of his many kidnappings. Russell M. Webb D 7014 *** The truth be told... Elmo wasn't REALLY being kidnapped all that often! You see... Elmo and I were in the CIA together... He often used that as a ruse since he so often "Disappeared" for extended periods on time. Sometime over a chilly one... I'll tell about the time Shorty & I helped him steal a MIG 15... ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  13. Come on Bill! We're all "Standing On Our Heads" here in the lower 48... Was there really cause for "Distress"? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  14. Quote Invested properly by the board of the USPA we could easily be self insured in no time. *** Geeze has this thread ever wandered since I started it! You present an interesting and yes, viable solution. One that has been considered by our governing organization... BUT- Unfortunately, it would NOT be plausible at this time. The old story of being between a rock and a hard place. From what I understand of the situation currently... We're paying in roughly 1/2 a million a year in premiums to cover both the general membership and demo policies. You're correct in the assumption that we 'could' self-insure... but that would mean taking at least 2-3 years of 'premium designated' funds and diverting them into an interest bearing vehicle that would be available in case of a claim against the organization. Obviously that would mean we would have to be without any coverage for those years of building the 'self insure' bankroll. And heaven forbid something tragic should happen and totally drain the fund... Without a back up the organization would be ruined. Now... On a lighter note; We're a week away from the BOD meeting that will hopefully resolve this situation. The current policy runs out soon... BUT, there a some other bids on the table. I don't know if they are comparable in price and coverage... I 'believe' them to be... I has some discourse with one of the insurance companies involved in a new policy proposal. From the conversations we had... at the ICAS convention in Dallas last December... There 'should' be an extremely attractive bid forthcoming from them. At that time anyway, this person felt that their company would certainly be able to extend pretty much the same coverage we now enjoy, both general and demo... for a significantly reduced rate! I'm hoping to be able to personally attend the BOD meeting in Va. next week... Should be interesting! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
  15. Quote Maybe it has outgrown its usefulness. I just think someone who says they "hate unions" is showing considerable indifference to history. *** Point taken. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

  20. I beg to differ..Doc! I've been a Teamster, as well as a member of various other unions from labor to auto industry to aerospace industry.. You're correct in the assessment that 'at one time' unions were a benefit to the 'common working man' but those days are LONG gone. OSHA now covers the safety aspects much better than unions once did... And as far as pay and benefits... unions (IMO) only serve to stifle the capitalist / free market ideals this country claims to pride itself on. As a 'worker bee' I always 'sold' my services to the highest bidder, Taking into consideration the $ and benefits... In the manufacturing arena, I was good at what I did and moved around to better, more lucrative positions constantly. My personal greed kept me continuing my education and training to make myself not only competitive in the job market, but continually recruited. The only thing any unions I belonged to ever did was take my money, and make things more difficult for me to advance myself upward at a given company, "protecting" people less qualified and motivated. In several instances, a good company lost a highly productive asset to a competitor... BECAUSE of the antiquated union policies they were FORCED to abide to. They are merely parasites that must create unrest to survive, sucking the life blood from business that sometimes cannot survive their often unrealistic demands. One prime example is the negative effect ALPA is currently having upon the entire Airline Industry. Now- As a business operator, I know that I must be competitive in my salary and benefits packages in order to be competitive with quality workers in the marketplace. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
