All this debate about buying new or used got me looking over the past year or so for what i think is the PERFECT time to purchase a new container when looking at it from a financial side with value for money. I think it is a the Micron-V308. Here is why.... It takes an Optimum 143. or a PD 113 for those who want a smaller reserve. It then takes a Safire 2 139 main canopy. You can then downsize to a 129, 119 and then a 109 safire 2. At any stage you could then go to a more HP canopy from a Crossfire 2 139 all the way back down to a crossfire 2 109. Then you probably have a couple of thousand jumps on this, or even many years of jumps on this and then once you are over jumping a crossfire 109, you can then switch to a super HP EXtremeVV 104 and later downsize that to a EXTreme VX 99. All the time while having a Optimum reserve 143 in the container. Of course you could also take the reserve down to a smart 110. After selling a stack of rigs over the years I like to try and help customers with the most financially vaiable rig to purchase, and I am not affraid to turn a sale away for them to buy a second hand rig. There are a few people in these forums I have done my best to talk them out of buying new. But if a customer came to me looking for a second hand rig for a 139, I think i would have to suggest buying whatever they want second hand but buying this container the V308 custom made to fit them is a damn good vaiable container to purchase. Starting at a 139, all the way down to a EXTreme 99. I seriously dont think 99% of people would ever need to buy another continaer again as this helps them on the 139 at that 500 jump level and sees them for the rest of their days in skydiving with a single container that is made to fit them. Most people who buy gear dont give two shits about the size of container, they all want it to fit the canopy they have now and at least take one size smaller and it would be a bonus if it took two sizes smaller. I know they are only incriments of 10ft, but a 10ft difference is much bigger difference than a 20ft difference fro a 210-190. Just thought I would share this as I find it interesting. For those tiny ladies or small blokes, that start straight off on a 149, they could hire a rig for that time while they had a V-308 made for them and then go down to the 139 and they would never need a rig again. For those that say nobody should start on a 150, well fact is MANY people do under their instructors careful thoughts and the instructors that i know have suggested this, also backed it up with tons of coaching and helping on every landing. Correction to one persons post.....it is ALL about fashion and popularity. why else would someone ask what to buy (i.e. this thread). my opinion, get on the phone and actually talk to some real experts instead of face this idiotic feedback from some 50 jump wonder... Amen. Racers maybe had their issues a while back when they were slow to follow the changes being made to other rigs but there is nothing wrong with them these days. Glad to hear you have gone with Maddy for a new rig. She has promised very similar pricing to myself after we have been speaking and is also looking forward to you trying all her range of demo canopies. She has said to me 'She wants to make sure you get exactly what you are comfortable with and good for you so will spend a weekend with her demo rigs all out for you.'. Stick with her, this is one of the advantage of buying from a gear store on your own dropzone. With her making sure her prices are on the same par as mine you have an awesome opportunity. Looked awesome. The red is like a crimson but a bit lighter. There is a similar theme with all the colours, they have this certain tone to them, almost like a 'pastel' tone, maybe that is not the best way to say it, maybe a 'crayon' tone. Just the colours are very soft. So you are not going to get a really bright red, more like a soft red Hard to explain but hope my description put some sort of imagine in your mind. Freeatlast-. His ads seem pretty strange if you look closely. The guy registered on dropzone.com in 2007. However, he purrchased this rig for himself in 2005. Most people would have registered on dropzone.com by then. But the real thing is, how many skydivers can buy a rig and keep hold of it for nearly 5 years without putting a single jump on it or without selling it. nobody would let the rig depreciate in value like that if it is sitting around for five years unjumped. Dont know the guy, never heard of him but i would be careful, just because of what is said in the advert for the mirage. Send Ward an email and ask him if he has a customer with the name in his records and send a photo of the rig and see if it adds up. Who cares. People are allowed to be excited that they have done a few skydives. Saying why is she trying to pull this bullshit, is a pretty egotistical response. First of all it is great publicity for us, secondly if people did not get a huge rush and sense of achievment from doing a single tandem or a tandem jump every other year, us sport skydivers would not have the turbine aircrafts we love so much and skydiving would not be as evolved as it is. With western union in london you have to provide either 100% points of I.D. such as a passport, or a drivers license and medicare card or whatever it was called over there. Or you can have the person sending the money send you the how many digit code it is as well as a secret question and secret answer.. then the I.D. can be basic. In Europe it is very simple for places to become western union agents, this is why alot of scams are done via western union, because their mates who have a grocery store or some small business can become an agent. So they may just turn the cameras off at the time. The other thing about western union is you can sign up online to send money and you can sign up online to receive money, so of course if they signed up online then the identity is even easier to BS. I believe there must be about 100 western union fraud cases reported every single day throughout the world, hell, it may even be thousands per day. So do not count on getting your money back, maybe you will get it back in thirty years and it is a suprise. While saying that though, I have to say the first and easiest way to know someone is trying to scam you is if they TELL you how they want you to send the money. First thing you should have done and anyone else reading this is look into the costs involved of sending them this money, because the first thing you would have noticed is that sending money via western union is one of the MOST expensive ways you can send money internationally. If they dictate how they want to receive the money this should ring alarm bells. What I have noticed with Americans is that they are very reluctant to give someone their bank account numbers. I am guessing that they are relctant to do this because it just sounds like a stupid thing to do, however when you are sending money or receiving money, doing it from bank account to bank account is the cheapest and the SAFEST way you could possibly do it. With terrorist laws throughout the world you must provide alot of details to wire money to someones bank over the counter, such as their bank account numbers, their home address and their full name and phone number. For them to withdraw the money they must have all the relevant identification. Also bank will act upon rip offs very quickly.
