Who are you? And how did you manage to hijack Jeanne's account, and use it to start posting logically? Its starting to freak me out. I am here thinking I fell asleep at work and dreamed of a parallel universe.

I think Amazon's opinion on this matter reflects the fact that support for Israel as an ally is not a partisan issue.

Most of the democrats and republicans in our government don't have a problem identifying the good and bad guys in this conflict.

Islamofacism has clearly declared and is fighting a war with the rest of the non-muslim world. Some don't want to acknowledge that. I say that Israel and the rest of the free world should fight it like a real war, with the overwhelming use of violent force until the enemies leadership changes their ways. Anwar Sadat had the courage to truly seek peace. I hope others will follow his example.

This is still a world largely governed by the use of violent force to achieve political objectives. We may wish it wasn't true, but I think it is.

  2. Those chopper style bicycles are awfully hard to use. I saw a kid riding one, it isn't so easy to pedal in that position, so an electric assist is especially appropriate.

  3. My globe from the early 1900's doesn't resemble the current national boundaries. The existing boundaries have mostly been decided as a result of war.

I don't think the history of thousands of years ago is too impotant for the current discussion. The USA conquered much of its territory in relatively recent times, and is not about to give it back to native tribes or the Spanish/Mexicans, etc.

But the end of WWI/Ottoman empire was important. A group was established by the league of nations to decide the partition. After WWII, again there was a lot of partitioning to do, some done by negotiation between just a few of the victorious leaders, and Israel was established by the UN.

The end of wars usually results in a redrawing of boundaries. When not satisfied with the creation of Israel, the Arabs started other wars to change that. They lost every time, but want to get their way regardless. I say tough shit.

  4. It seems like much of your fear is related to the trouble you have had with stability in freefall.

I think your fear is justified if you don't trust your ability to be stable. Being confident in your abilities is very important to your actual performance when it counts. So, getting some tunnel time would be a great solution, even if it is expensive and means you will delay your return to skydiving.

So how do you explain the clear preference from 1948 to 9/10/2001?

I do not have so much trouble identifying the good guys. Do you really see the scales as nearly balanced, or even tipping away from the Israelis?

  8. Why would it get oil on it?

    Maybe from our hands?

I've jumped a lot of old gear that did not seem to ever have been washed without such a problem. That includes years of jumping in the dirt/dust of Phoenix long before any dropzones had grass.

Every time my gear starts to slip, I get my rigger to wash my rig. The dirt and oils in the webbing cause it to slip through the hardware. After every wash my rig is good for another year or two before the hardware starts to slightly stlip. This is the time between washings.

Seems like a simple fix to try before getting a rigger to modify the original design of your rig.

The design of the hardware is what should be modified, but unfortunately we can't do that on our own.

Washing the rig to prevent slippage is not reasonable, in my opinion. We shouldn't have to put up with slippage at all, but an extra layer of webbing seems more reasonable - unless there is some safety concern that is not obvious.

Why should the average U.S.citizen care about what happens to and with the government of Israel.

We seam so hung up on aid, welfare to the state of Israel but I never hear why.

Because they are the good guys, and their enemies are the bad guys. Neither side is pure, but it is certain that Israel is not a threat to the rest of the world, but the evil of the islamofacists is, and they are now affecting all of the world. Time to pick sides. I'll stand on the side that does not think Hitler was a good guy.

Many don't know enough about history to understand that it really is that simple:

  11. They don't want peace. It is as simple as that.

Is there someone that could lead the Palestinian Authority as Sadat had the courage to do for Egypt? I think not. Until that leader emerges, there is no reason to not take them at their word and accept that they do not want peace. I don't consider the recent actions by Israel to be overwhelming force.

Given that they are at war with each other, I think Israel should fight it like a real war, not a limited engagement. I think as long as the Palestinian Authority thinks that Israel will not respond with overwhelming force, they will not seek peace.

From Article 13 of the Hamas charter:

"[Peace] initatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement..."

It is too bad that the Israelis are so ineffective at countering the lies from the Arab world, it is the Palestinians that brag about their friends in the media helping them. So many people think that both sides are equally at fault, which I think is completely wrong.

The Arab world is still overtly racist, was on the wrong side of WWII, and thought they were better off to ignore the partition negotiations. That decision was bad for them, but I say tough shit, especially after Arafat turned down what his own negotiators worked out at the end of the Clinton admin.

We should also remember that Arafat was a KGB operative:

To have the bulk of the lines come out of the pocket while the safety stow is still locked is very dangerous.

Isn't that what is intended, the safety stow clearing after all the lines are out of the pocket?

  13. My thought is that if worried about the consequence of the reserve firing later during your canopy ride, then fly it around at slow speed (deep brakes), letting it fly at 100 feet before landing normally. If the reserve fires while flying slowly, whatever falls out (probably dangling below, not behind) will not matter, or you have a chance to contain. If it does fire at 100 feet, it won't deploy enough to matter.

I just bought a used altimeter and didn't get the name of it. It doesn't have any kind of name except "Ro" under x1000. Does anyone have any idea? It's analog.

I have one of them also. I don't know the mfg name, there are no other indications at all of a name or symbol or anything on the case. I bought mine in the late '80s, they were very cheap, but mine has survived abuse and never a problem.

No camera at the moment, or I would post a pic...

  18. RW organizing by Craig and Eliana? Right?

    I will be there! :)
I get to meet Kallend! B|

    Anybody want a ride?

Leaving from the NW Columbus Ohio area on Friday 6/30. I'd be looking to do the driving if someone wants to buy some gas. I could go across the north side on I-80, or stay South through Indy. Probably returning really late on the 2nd or early on the 3rd of July. Schedule is pretty flexible.

I"m interested in why no one has mentioned the RW pin that connects to the skyhook. Would this not be a viable option as a beefier pin already in existance?

That pin existed before the skyhook, I do believe.

  20. The reserve pin of the Vector is a significant departure from the standard. I think RWS would do well to advertise the benefit of their reserve pin. If would push the other mfgs to step it up.

  21. This is a subject that gets me a little worked up.

I think the std reserve pin design, and the strength standard is terribly inadequate. I make that conclusion because I think it should not be possible to bend a pin while packing it, or when leaning against the airplane on the way to altitude, or when getting shoved into the door frame during the door jam-up or when diving out late.

To pass this type of abuse I think it might mean that the pin should be about 3 to 5 times stronger/stiffer than is currently the case.

I think it is very likely that the top grommet/bearing surface which the pin rides against might also be worthy of beefing up, or completely redesigning.

I am not a rigger, but I am a mech engineer, done mechanical component design for Boeing and Honda for 18 years.

I hate the Wings logo. It's icky.

I think that what makes the Wings and Icon logo 'icky' has to do with the location. That view (rear view) of a rig had traditionally been left free of logos (except for the narrow area of the yoke), and I think that is important because customers do not want the logo getting in the way of the appearance when viewed straight from the back. I think a lot of people that own such rigs would prefer the logo not be included.

Logos on the side panels are not nearly so obtrusive, in my opinion.

  23. I think it had nothing to do with body position.

I think that if your slider is only part way down, and at the position where the line twists start, means that the slider hung up on something, and when just one grommet gets stopped, you can imagine how that might cause the canopy to twist up.

Do you check the brake lines for twists? That can cause the slider to hang up.

Also, were you sure that one brake didn't perhaps get unstowed prematurely?
