    Loop cutaway handles

Somewhat related to the soft reserve handle discussion, where some advantages of the loop cutaway handle were noted. I like this setup for the ordinary belly flying I do. If I did any freeflying with people who like to grab harnesses, I'd change it back to the pillow cutaway with a smaller metal reserve handle (actually I've already decided to get a smaller handle for my next repack). The loop has a nice stiffener in it, and does not seem vulnerable to rolling under the lift web. By the way, what was the advantage of the old "blast" handles. What possible merit did a flopping around handle that had to be pulled straight offer? I can't remember anybody with a reason why they had them, except that it was bought used? What do you think? OR - Volcanic eruption early warning

If Ranier goes like St. Helens did, the mud slide would probably bury Orting (it was buried by previous eruptions waaay back). I hope Kapowsin is enough up on the hill to be out of the mudslide path. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Why have 2 audible mounts on a helmet?

Wouldn't it be distracting to have the tones going off at slightly different altitudes? Even if they were just a fraction of a second apart, it might make for a strange combination (construcive/destructive interference and what not) Maybe if you had it happen just right, it would cancel out and there would be no sound! Seriously, isn't the repeated, mixed tones distracting? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Why have 2 audible mounts on a helmet?

I saw a helmet ad showing that it was designed to allow 2 audibles (had a pro track and pro dytter). Why? What do you believe?

But Spike Lee did not do the right thing, he threw that garbage can through the window of a guy who did not deserve it. Then just sat on the curb with the owner of the pizza shop after the riot like he was just a bystander. Does anyone else have an explanation for this, because I really liked the movie and thought he was very creative until the end. Now I just think he is hung up on being part of class victimhood. Altimaster II vs Altimaster III

I don't like the Altimaster II because the adjustment knob is exposed and could get caught on something, like a line. Anyone know of this happening? Maybe the concern is not valid. Do you want Chamberlain for Sec. of State?

Seems like a lot of you would be happy to have Neville Chamberlain enforcing the terms of the Gulf war cease fire agreement. He could go to Baghdad, I'm confident he would return with a promise of compliance, proclaiming, "Peace in our times". This is still a world governed by the agressive use of force to achieve political objectives. Saddam has shown his willingness to use force in this manner, much of the world joined to push back. He would have been overthrown had the cease fire agreement not allowed Iraq to continue using helicopter gunships. I believe it obvious that without the real threat of military action, inspectors would not be in Iraq now to verify compliance with Saddam's agreement to disarm. In my opinion, without the real threat of military action, we should just tell Saddam that the cease fire agreement is void. Is that what you advocate? Reserves

I would probably want a new reserve after so many deployments also, my point is that people are getting worked up over 20-40 repacks, and an increase in porosity doesn't seem to be enough to justify the concern, unless it is shown to be directly related to strength. Has PD shown that there is a problem with fabric strength after 20-40 repacks, or just porosity? I don't think the interest in this subject is motivated by the desire to ensure good landings, I think the concern is correctly related to structural integrity. If there is a safety issue lurking under the surface of this subject, we deserve to know more. Any other thoughts? Reserves

I understand from other discussions that porosity increases with repacks more so than deployments, but this must not matter too much in terms of practical "wearing out" because F-111 mains still last for hundreds of jumps before their performance is not acceptable, and they get a repack and deployment with each jump. Sure, the porosity may increase, but I think that the effect of deployments and repacks on the STRENGTH of the fabric is what should be investigated. The porosity change just can't matter that much. My PD210 (F-111) with ~150 jumps still planes out so well that I can't justify thinking about replacing it yet. Where am I wrong? Used reserve

I agree, and load my F-111 9-cell canopy pretty lightly at about 1.1:1, at about 150 jumps it still planes out great. My point though, is that some would have you believe that 20 repacks on a reserve might be getting to be too much, and I can't agree with that. for the reasons I stated before.
