  1. try a firebolt at the lower end of wing loading. nancy at jumpshack would help you out. we have a very large one one at my dz and have packed for the owner from new. easy to pack from day one since it is hybrid. and sets him down nicely every time.
  2. PM 'masterrigger1' about wings and report back.
  3. speed at deployment time? what is your exit weight and type of suit? measure the slider and give pd a call they may send you another one. get a rigger to check the lineset especially the brake lines cascade to cateye. personally i would go back to the stock d bag and use 2 inch rubber bands and double stow all like pd recommends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVAoiLl2B6M
  4. shocked,,,sincere condolences to Joe's family and friends...
  5. Super-PAC XL The upgrade coming soon is swapping out the existing PT6A-34 for the new PT6A-140a, new 4 bladed prop, new wingtips and G600 avionics. No indication yet what the rated power will be for this application but no doubt it will rival the Supervan for jumpers to altitude per hour.
  6. agree just use the ones designed for over glasses. these work well, others probably also... http://www.paragear.com/skydiving/10000136/G1134/FLEXVISION-OVER-THE-GLASSES-SKYDIVING-GOGGLES
  7. peter, re experimental pd canopies,,,if i remember right "pink floyd" and "black death".
  8. when it comes to lines, parachutes i would listen to MEL. a true expert imo. edit and that extra 2mph (or whatever it is) over lets say 4 minutes on a short spot could prevent a problem before it even occurs.
  9. i would buy a used canopy. do not 'lock into' a Safire. lots of good ones out there. easier to pack and easier on the wallet when you sell.
  10. My theory is no one wants to buy rubber bands. My dzo gives them away so no issue. I pack all types for many people and prefer standard d bags with rubber bands and 4 locking stows (vector?) seems more secure (safer) to me. on my racer all 8 stows are locking stows, I believe no way the bag will be stripped off the canopy...
  11. exactly. pd reserve and pick the correct size then get the container for it. not other way around.
  12. MEL is the expert...has been for years.
  13. do you clean and lub the yellow cutaway cable at least once every 6 months?
  14. yes. center first then the side that the lines want to go to naturally.
  15. congrats, been watching this the whole time.
  16. for example if you tend to look at the canopy as it opens you could be dropping a shoulder at pitch time. try not looking (what good does watching it do anyway) and staying 'square' to the horizon,,,i need to remind myself from time to time.
  17. just wait until you can wash it at reserve repack time - remove everything from the rig. this from the UPT website... APPENDIX D: WASHING YOUR VECTOR Over the years we've seen some extremely dirty Vectors! We've found that many people are unsure how to get their container clean. For that reason, we have put together the following instructions on how to make your Vector smell and look good again. The best way to wash a rig is the "good old fashion way" with slightly warm water and Woolite. First, remove the packing data card, reserve ripcord and cover all hook Velcro. Use a big tub; let the rig stay in the soapy water 4 hrs. Occasionally swish the rig around in the tub to loosen dirt. Drain soapy water, fill tub with clean water, and swish rig around until the clear water becomes soapy and cloudy. Drain tub and repeat until all soap and dirt residue are gone, usually in 3 rinses. Let the rig naturally dry, without direct sunlight. We usually allow a small fan to blow air past it to speed up the drying process. We do not recommend using a washing machine. Extended agitation in a washing machine could have negative effects in the long run. This also requires you to wrap the heavy hardware to minimize damage to the machine
  18. I don't like the tabs on the ends of the kill lines. personally I would get a rigger to get rid of them. replace the whole line if needed. so they pull inside the slider sometimes, better than a preventable cutaway. could be the first link of a real serious chain of events.
  19. MEL is the best. even sent my comp velo to him.
  20. there may be no catseye on icarus tandems but in full flight the tail is pulled down a bit. so in effect there is some brakes set for the opening.
  21. the pd slink hats are intended for keeping the slider above - are they not? although I have never used them...
  22. for security and orderly payout of the lines. for example if the pilot chute hesitates with the bag out of the container, the lines are still in control. I am not sold yet but may be in 10 year...I find easier and faster to pack with rubber bands.
  23. personally I think the snap risers from jumpshack are the best. never had a toggle fire. Here are what they charge. Straight from Nancy... Risers (Type 17 or Type 8, Snap) $120 Snap Toggles $25
