  1. In regards to the flipped D-Bag, I don't see an issue with it if your closing loop is mounted to your bottom flat as theres no snag hazards, and you're probably fine if you have a floor mounted closing loop but it could present a snag hazard (one reason they don't recommend flipping the bag that way).  I have my bag normally oriented and have never had any issues though.

One hazard that someone might be dumb enough to miss (like I did) is that you you can only flip the bag with bottomless corners!  After having a few funky openings (probably poor technique) I was looking to make my older (J2 from '92) a bit more wingsuit friendly.  I hadn't gotten around to cutting the corners but someone recommend I flip the bag.  I figured why not, let's see if it helps anything, it made logical sense.  First few jumps went fine but then I did a big flare before deploying so I was pitching at a lower airspeed and after a few seconds of nothing happening, I started to shake back and forth and it finally came out.

looking at rear footage, the pin was popped before the PC even inflated (so no pinlock) but the bag was held in by the corners.  Usually with the horizontal openings in a wingsuit, the bag gets rolled up and over the corners but since I had lower airspeed and the bridle was pulling straight back, it was pulling the bag deeper into the corners rather than rolling it out.  It would be a non issue with bottomless corers as there would be nothing to trap it.

  2. I thought I'd crosspost this if anyone was interested.  I will post more on the original thread once I fly it.

    Quote

So I just got my Corvid and thought I'd post a few pictures of some features I'm really stoked on and initial thoughts.

    [.IMG]http://i64.tinypic.com/33arwk5.jpg[/IMG]

-First this thing is feather light. Combined with a CXUL and IBEXul, this thing will be a weapon in those Eastern Sierra climb and fly's where every ounce matters.

-Speaking of climb and fly's, once you get to the top, you need somewhere to stash all your gear. Not a problem here! With spandex pockets from my armpit to my toes that have a gear loop stitched down the center and with a bungee keeper (available on request NOT STOCK!), we can throw the rack in one suit and the rope double coiled in the other. I've used this setup on my AURA3 with a 35m rope and a half rack and the way it keeps the weight distribution around your ribs/chest, I don't notice much difference in flight besides the slightly lower exit due to higher wing-loading. This is a much better location for gear than between the legs like older designs/other suits.

    [.IMG]http://i68.tinypic.com/2a9tcm0.jpg[/IMG] [.IMG]http://i65.tinypic.com/2ilfuk8.jpg[/IMG]

-In addition to the side storage, the CORVID has the classic nutsack, good for a set of nuts, a stashbag, collapsed platypus bladder, microspikes (carefully placed!) or other small items.

    [.IMG]http://i63.tinypic.com/102t2qh.jpg[/IMG]

-Like the COLUGO3, the CORVID has the inner leg pockets which seem to be perfect for trekking poles or a pair of climbing shoes and some extra layers. If you fill them up with gear and still have your poles left, you can always do the old trick of placing your polls tied on a pullup chord (carefully not to damage anything!!) inside you legwing between two ribs along your leg as a last resort.

    [.IMG]http://i65.tinypic.com/2mceikj.jpg[/IMG]

-The phone pocket has been improved from the last two generations to be IMO the perfect combination of both, same style zippers as the first (makes access and camera use easier) but an added velcro strip to close off the pocket part making it just as secure as the version2.

    [.IMG]http://i67.tinypic.com/2eptt0k.jpg[/IMG]

-Finally the new Evolv TRAX rubber is sweet. I've gone out with my AURA3 (with the 5.10 rubber) and my COLUGO3 (with the Evolv TRAX rubber) pushing off every different surface I can find in different conditions (everything but snow) and find better traction with the Evolv TRAX.

    [.IMG]http://i68.tinypic.com/24uvq4w.jpg[/IMG]

I should be able to put my first jumps on it next week but based on what I've seen of it in Moab while jumping my AURA3 next to it, seen on video, heard from pilots flying at, and understanding some of the technical info and changes on this vs the other suits, I think this will be the ticket into increasing margin and safely jumping more exits in the Eastern Sierra.

  3. Knowing not much on the technical sides of these things besides how to turn on my FlySight and how to check how many satellites are connected for each point it records, I get that this records more points but can anyone confirm if the points are as accurate as a FlySight? I’ve seen different speeds and glide come out of a GoPro than a FlySight on the same jump. Obviously if the GoPro is more accurate or the same then it’s better with more points but if it’s just more points and less accurate then it will become dangerous with analyzing BASE exits.

Stickied it for you. Ant that opening looked funky. And why would you need airlocks on a low performance 7 cell? Doesn't seem worth the extra pack volume which seems to be a good selling point on a wingsuit canopy, lowest pack volume to fit a larger canopy in a tiny container.

  5. You should try a Hayduke. And the Ibex had a strong flare. The Outlaw (like the OSP) is designed more around slow speeds and super stable in deep brakes and stalls than around a nice flare. The flare on both my Outlaws and my OSP was minimal compared to the flare on the Hayduke.

  6. Stablility and more consistent pull because it stays inflated evenly due to the 3D shape. I’ve got plenty of rear footage of VENTED Adrenaline and Apex PC’s that are hooked up symmetrically and oscillate like crazy and inflate and deflate as they pull. And to settle up your point I’ll post a quote off the Squirrel website:

***The SkySNATCH is not necessarily more or less powerful than other PCs of similar size. The main difference is stability. For example, if you find that your 30" PC is functioning well for wingsuit use currently, then a 30" SkySNATCH will work similarly depending on the design factors specific to your current PC. If you are using an older 0-3fcm (F-111) PC for skydiving currently and are happy with the extraction force it is providing, then you may need to choose a smaller size of SkySNATCH.
Whats the point of living if you aren't doing what you love?

  7. Well in that case all your points made zero sense as the advantage of the SkySnatch (and Snatch compared to other BASE PCs) is its stability due to its 3D shape, nothing to do with pulling way harder that others of the same size. :P

Whats the point of living if you aren't doing what you love?

  8. Weird. I’ve got a couple hundred BASE jumps with a Snatch and never had an issue pulling. I don’t have a SkySnatch on my skyrig but I find the FF handle with tucktab a bit harder to find than the Snatch on my BASE rig.

  9. I think you're confusing the "Snatch" with the "SkySnatch" because the SkySnatch is either 26" or 30" which is well in line with most "Wingsuit extended bridle and PC" kits. The SkySnatch's selling point is it's stability because of it's 3D shape, not stronger snatch force. Using a "Snatch" (sized 32"-48" with no kill-line) would not be recommended for skydiving as it would "deploy too quickly" and pack too large stretching out your BOC. I don't see the problem with the handle as that type of handle is nice for wingsuiting and the system is set up as wingsuit specific to of course it isn't catering to FF with a tuck tab.

  10. I can crab my toggles in my Aura3 without touching a zipper. My friend who just got his Swift3 is nearly grabbing his toggles on skydives without trying (didn't realize he was doing it until looking at video) and could probably grab his toggles easy. Not sure on the rest of their line but considering the similar arm sweep and same leading edge material the Aura3 shares with the rest of the suit I would be surprised (except with skydive C-Race) if you couldn't force your hand to the toggles is really needed.

And definitely in the base environment i wouldn't jump a suit i cant land without touching a zipper. It's all good till something goes wrong and when something goes wrong, I want my toggles before my sliders down.

  11. I've had the zippers jam a handful of times on my old P2 when i had it. Usually on the fabric strip thats supposed to prevent jamming or on my jacket. Now I jump suits I can punch out of.

"I would also add that this was NOT a Skyhook save"

The pilot-chute comes out so fast that I find it very hard to believe a first-timer or novice could pull the reserve handle so fast after pulling the cutaway pad. If it isn't a Skyhook it must surely be an SOS or other single-point dual action system...

Well clearly it’s not a skyhook as the makn didn’t pull the freebag out. You can see her go into freefall and the PC launch out and deploy the reserve. It was obviously an RSL or SOS handle but definitely not a skyhook.

  13. First a post about wanting to fly a freak with way under the recommended jumps (sub 100 in a swift) and now as long about how to use a death pole? :S

Why? It's not that cool of a shot when skydiving. And besides the safety risk, I've seen plenty of them get stuck behind a slider or slapped by a riser and then you loose your GoPro.

  14. Sounds like it will all work out, I've had much better experience, quality, and customer service with Squirrel, and you have had the same with PF. If you don't buy Squirrel that might bump my lead time up by a day or two, and if I don't buy PF your leadtime might not get bumped back a few weeks! :P

Whats the point of living if you aren't doing what you love?

  15. Anyone can sponsor anyone. Just seems like a lot of excuses.

Squirrel suits always on the podiums, sometimes less than half the lead times, and way better customer service. Sounds like there have been fit issues on both sides, but that's where the customer service comes. Everyone I know who's had a slight fit issue with a squirrel suit has gotten it fixed immediately for free. Not the case with PF. My freind even crushed the gripper on his second hand Aura when he stepped on it and they fixed it for free.

Seems like all you have bad to say is "Vietnamese flap flap"

Whats the point of living if you aren't doing what you love?

  16. More than double the lead time doesn't seem like a little :$ and I've had no quality issues with anything I've received from Squirrel. And it's nice to have to comfort of fast response and updates when you drop a few grand on some gear rather than seeing the money disappear and not getting any response to questions :S

I don't really care where it's made if it's made well and works well. The construction on my stream was snatch was way nicer than the construction on my Zak2 and PC from Adrenaline. Haven't seen a huge difference in quality between the PF and Squirrel suits, but much better service from Squirrel....

  17. My Aura 3 was quoated 8 weeks as I ordered it before it was on the site too. I belive it came in 6 weeks along with a Stream and OutlawLite which I ordered 2 weeks after the suit. And any emails responded to usually within the hour but 24 hours max.

  18. I'll copy over what I put in the BASE forum here:

    DFR

Now that I've put a few jumps on the new Aura3, I thought I'd throw some feedback out there and hopefully whoever else is jumping one can add to it!

To start, I'm coming from an Aura, never jumped an Aura2, so I'm only comparing it to the original Aura.

    The start:

I found the start arc to be fairly similar in terms of when I crossed the 45 degree line, but slightly shorter with the Aura3 over the Aura. My best starts in good conditions were in the 550 foot range, my average in normal conditions or with 90 degree turns were 650-700 feet, and with tailwinds and cold air, 800-850 feet, no surprises there, the conditions effect the start more than anything else.

The big thing I noticed was the power and glide I came out of my start with in the Aura3 over the Aura. My shallowest, shortest starts in the Aura were coming out around 1.7-2.1, but the Aura3 was coming out with 2.2-2.5. When I would take it steeper in the Aura and have a longer but faster start (700-750 feet), I was coming out with a 2.2-2.5. With the Aura3 on steeper starts it was getting 2.7-3.2, which I would say is a huge improvement!

    The flight:

I don't have much to say on the glide, as I've only done one jump where I exited and flew max performance to the LZ before pitching, but it was a two way with an Aura2, and we exited at the same time, had a similar start, and pitched at the same height. Our glide was matched but our speed wasn't even close. I pitched 5 seconds before him and ~100' further than he flew. Maybe once I skydive the suit more I'll unlock more of the glide.

In terms of steep flight, the Aura3 is levels above the Aura. With the Aura, taking it steep with little to no dihedral took a fair bit of effort and you had to be very conscious of the point of back deflection, where it liked to "whomp" you or throw you unstable if you hadn't trained for it and knew the exact point where it would occur. The Aura3 feels at home going steep with no dihedral at all. On the few skydives I did with it, I took it from max glide immediately into aggressive dives with no issues like I had with the Aura. The Aura3 wants to go steep with little effort and is way more stable at those steep angles.

The arm sweep is steeper in the Aura3, which took a jump or two to get used to, but after getting over that the suit felt just as natural to fly as my Aura. I laid my Aura3 over an Aura2 that was built to similar dimensions, and if you swept the arms steeper on the Aura2 to match the arm sweep of the Aura3, the grippers would line up perfectly and the wing profile would match. So it seems like the arm wing is shaped to the position of the Aura2 in aggressive flight, without the extra flap of fabric and wing distortion you get when you sweep your arms back in the Aura2. If that doesn't make sense, I'll try to find someone with an Aura2 and recreate that and take a picture this time.

    The deployment

I found the Aura3 more stable at the end of a big flare than the Aura (not that the Aura wasn't stable, the Aura3 is just more stable). It seems to have more pressure in the arm wings, although that could just be that the air is harder to push out when collapsing the wings because of the new inlet, but either way it didn't seem any harder to reach back for the PC. After deploying, I was still able to reach the toggles without touching a single zipper, just like with the Aura. I am running no foam at all in the Aura3, maybe I'll try the thing black foam at some point and repost back on toggle access with that.

    Review

All in all, The Aura3 is starting slightly faster and shallower than the Aura with more power and glide, it has tons more speed then the Aura 2 (my friend flying the Aura 2 on that jump has more jumps in that suit alone than I have total and is heavier than me and he is always faster than me when we are in the same suit), is more stable at steeper angles of flight, and still keeps the same ease of deployment and access to risers and toggles.

Below I have attached two pictures of my starts in the Aura3 and my starts in the Aura. The crazy 423' start in the Aura was in crazy thermals with a nice updraft headwind, and I think it was having issues connecting with satellites as the data got funny further down the flight. I haven't had nearly as good of conditions yet jumping the Aura3 and I've gotten with the Aura, so the good Aura3 starts are in similar conditions the the decent Aura starts.

Let me know if there's anything else you want to know about the suit! I'll post back once I get a bunch more jumps on it in more varied conditions :)

If you want, I can take pictures of the different foam if you're unclear what they mean by it.

  19. Brutal. I know of one person who was a newer jumper (don't ask me how he did it or no one noticed it) zipped his Swift but BASE mode on a skydive. He upsized to a swift after a few unstable flights in a phantom, got unstable trying to pitch and by the time he got out of his flatspin he was too scared to try to pull again and flew it till his AAD fired. And one other person who didn't use anything to hold their zippers together and sucked his handle in but managed to fish it out. I've never had an issue as long as I either have my zippers tied or clipped with a mini carabiner, but I guess anything possible.
