  1. The largest NoStoBag that I have built to date is for a 210 sq ft canopy. Since I have not heard anything from the owner, I would guess that it works OK. JerryBaumchen Jerry, So your thoughts on me getting one for a Javelin J4K while using a Storm 190?
  2. Ordered a Javelin Odyssey J4k which should be in the end of May. I had looked at having them add the semi-stowless bag as an option but they dont offer an in house option for that size container. So I was considering either ordering a custom UPT stowless or the AeroSports NoStoBag. Thoughts? Pros or Cons? Has anyone used either in a Javelin J4K? Any advice appreciated.
  3. Im 42 and been jumping 20+ years. I am old. But Im also willing to fairly and accurately assess new technology without my age and resistance to change making me view it as worse than it is. (ie AADs, RSLs, Skyhooks, etc etc) Are some people distracted by cameras? Sure. Some people are distracted by their navel lint and butterflies as well. Generally Darwin takes care of them. You'll be waiting awhile. I jump for my own pleasure. Not to post videos on Youtube. But quite honestly Im more worried about them as an entanglement hazard for a bridle or PC, than I am as a distraction. Edit-Although in the interest of honesty, if you look closely at my profile pic to the left thats a GoPro on my helmet paddling the Class 5 Gauley river in WV. I learned not to let distractions bother me a long long time ago. Blue skies all.
  4. Doesn't this apply to the whole sport? How is it that we trust students to do their EPs or to find their pilot chute? +1 The new cameras arent that tricky. Oh my gosh they were fooling with buttons on the plane?!? Is that taking important time away from doing the proper skydiver fist pound/handshake or something? Which is all I see happening on 99% of flights? (Other than the occasional safety and handle check) People in this thread just sound old.
  5. Larry, These guys have a PAC and a guy named John on their team. http://www.vegasextremeskydiving.com/meet-the-team.html
  6. Joe, Awesome post thanks! I also plan on going this year for the first time and for my first boogie. My container and system should be in from Javelin by the end of May.
  7. Huge air show here in Louisville on Saturday for the Kentucky Derby, so they were doing practice runs. http://thunderoverlouisville.org/ My daughter actually stood in the yard watching them and ooh'd and ahh'd. She's two. But at 11:30 last night? She woke up yelling. Friends with most of my neighbors on Facebook, and they all reported the same thing. Screaming kids. Not sure why they were doing runs that late.
  8. You're funny... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4493965 Wow. That thread/accident. Unreal. Whats crazy is Icarus still has half of those profiles up on their website.
  9. I had Blue Angels doing flyovers of my house at 11:30pm last night. The baby was not happy, meaning I was not happy.
  10. We used quickbooks as well, and it tied in with out point of sale system, which was called Quickbooks Point of Sale. Only problem is they do money grab, in that it seems every other year they update the software and yours stops working (wont let you consolidate end of year accounts, etc) unless you update to the new system.
  11. Yep, thats what I was taught. Obviously/unfortunately not everyone does it that way I guess?
  12. Would a double loop system work? Place you entire hand through the first loop, so that its on your wrist. And you grab the second loop, as we normally do with your hand. This way even if your hand accidently lets go of the first loop (dropped toggle) the second loop is still over your wrist?

  14. This is from one new jumper to another. As Ive got just 48 civilian sport jumps. I was licensed last summer. I spent all winter scouring the classifieds here and the Facebook group Becca Lynn runs (Skydiving Gear For Sale and Wanted). What I found is that normally, for the most part though there are exceptions, used gear was priced much higher than the equation for used gear value posted here: http://www.skydivekansas.com/resources/ar_usedgear.shtml Or any of the other suggestions I was given in determining a fair price for a used rig. And at 75 to 80% of the cost of a new one plus shipping, I would rather pay the additional 20-25% and get exactly what I want, in exactly the colors I want, in my custom size and in perfect condition (hopefully) from the manufacturers. As for downsizing, dont be in a rush. I weigh 190 and jump a 190 rental now and ordered a 190. With gear on Im just slightly above a 1:1 and loving it. And the container I ordered (Javelin Odyssey J4K) can easily downsize to a 170 should I ever decide to do so. Their deposit program sounds nice, with free rentals while you wait for your rig. $8000 should more than cover the cost of a top of the line fully customized rig with all the bells and whistles. My fully spec'd out rig came in under that. So personally I would say if you have the money and can afford it, go for it. But do yourself a favor! Go ahead and buy yourself an altimeter and helmet and stop renting those! And possibly a stock jumpsuit as well.
  15. Im currently having my first new rig built. Due for delivery in June. Upon receiving it I plan to set my Cypres +300'.
  16. Douglas, I didnt say if I would or wouldnt use them. He just asked if there was such a system and I was confirming there is. Thats all. Here is what he used: http://youtu.be/IRBXF_Unwm0 Here is another system that was trying to come on to the market. Dont know if they did. http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/18/recon-instruments-offering-flight-hud-goggles/ Having said that I have used a helmet mounted HUD system before. The army has been testing them for years. Never actually deployed with one though. http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=42267 Some of the equipment the engineers came up with did get field deployed though, such as the forearm mounted communication keyboards and some other fun bits.
  17. Its now fairly obvious to every poster on this forum that you are not a skydiver. F'off.
