Work on free software projects and be awesome. Take interesting elective courses with projects like compiler construction. Turn that experience into a good summer internship. I already work for a startup robotics company as a programmer intern. Robokind Robots, you may have seen us on kick starter recently. So I am already getting good programming experience before I have even started college. But, But, But....its a California.... I really want to build a school bus to live in for a while. That will only cost me $50k at most. That would be cheaper than renting and I am not going to be able to stay at my parents house for more than the next year. I am going to be a programmer, an instructor/videographer/Part Time DZ Rat, and Ill be in coffee for a while too.
