I may be able to shed some light on the original rig for sale. Talon is a brand made by Parachutes Australia. My first Talon had a Maverick 200 as a main. It was an F111 7 cell. It was pretty horrible, very heavy (and shit) flare. I also think it is Australian so it sounds like the whole rig is well traveled. I didn't know they used it as a reserve however. On another note I just bought a new PD160 to replace my old PD160 reserve that was DOM 1991. I got a call from my rigger and another guy on the DZ had offered me £200 ($300) for the reserve which I snapped up!! My rigger recommended sending it back to PD at 25 years old for a health check. I'm going to add one thing. Don't just do one! Whether it is shortly after Aff or a couple of months later remember to chuck in an occasional low exit. It's fun and good drills. Many of us started on static line so don't have the same fear of low exits that pervades modern day aff students. A dz I used to jump at in Oz made students do 3 to pass Aff. 5k,4k and 3k. The use of words is important. She is not, IMO, sacrificing a child (which makes it sound like an open air altar, a sharp knife and moonlit chanting etc.), rather terminating an unwanted pregnancy. Your use of words is inflammatory, which obviously it is meant to be as it expresses your view. I also believe that were a woman to "sacrifice her child", according to my definition above, she would most certainly abdicate her responsibility and should be appropriately punished to boot. There are already way too many people in the world. I love movies, always have. I also like to check films out on IMDB prior to seeing them as I like the idea of crowd-sourced ratings and reviews. Whilst there are a few good reviews on the site they tend to be (from limited review) from very religious types. Depending on your exit weight and number of jumps a 220 is likely to be on the large side for a first canopy but without more info it's hard to tell. If you are a big person then 220 may work for you but if you are a tiny little person then it may be big. What other canopies does the DZ have that you may be able to test? What is your exit weight? Speak to your instructors about a first rig that would be suitable for you above all else. I'm 6'2" and 80 kilos. I had a 200sq ft 7 cell, followed by a 170, 9 cell (at c. 100 jumps) then a 150 sq ft Sabre at c. 260 jumps. I'm still on a 150. I had LASEK about 5 years ago - I couldn't get LASIK due to issues with my eyes. I was in quite a lot of pain for about a week. I think taken in isolation the pain wasn't that bad - itchy eyes basically - but it was relentless and I couldn't sleep and it built up to the point when I just wanted to curl up and die. That said I would do it again in a heartbeat as I now have better than 2020 vision. The only downside is that, personally, my night vision is not as good as it was before but not awful, just lots of starring (if that makes sense...). One of my biggest fears before the surgery was losing both lenses in freefall as I just don't know how I would have landed safely! Agreed. A friend of mine and I were chatting one day about this. He set his to 8k (half way through (no idea why)), 4.5k (breakoff), and 3k (pull). We discussed that this might be a bit silly as one of the benefits was the hard deck warning. He proceeded to change it to 4.5k, 3k, 1.5k. A few weeks later when he went jumping he forgot that he had changed it (I think you can see where this is going...), was at a new DZ where they happened to exit a bit lower on that jump (10k not 14k). He did a solo head down jump, tracked onto his back at the second warning and flipped onto his belly at the third and deployed. He was directly above the DZ at c. 1400 feet.
