******Are we all having a blonde moment understanding what law enforcement means? 'Wait and take it out of his estate is the stupidest fucking thing I've heard all week.'

What happens when a homeowner doesn't pay his property taxes? Do we surround his home with armed police and threaten him with violence? No, we just put a lien on his home, and at some point in the future when the home is sold, the back taxes due are taken from the proceeds of the sale.

Ah, but that just doesn't make you feel good about enforcing the law against "thugs", does it? Bring on the snipers!

But that is not quite what is happening.
he is "squatting" on land that doesn't belong to him. He has been asked to pay for the use, and he isn't doing that, but remains on the land that doesn't belong to him.

At some point, his belongings have to be removed from the l;and that doesn't belong to him and he is not willing to pay to occupy.

If somebody started using and occupying land that belonged to you. Would you just wait till he died and hope you got something out if the estate?

(Never mind that doing nothing might be seen as consent and would possibly jeapordize future legal proceedings)

The land occupation "squatting" is by cows, and the government is already in the process of confiscating and removing them. So when that's complete, what then? Then it's just a civil matter of how much back fees he owes for the grazing rights. That's not worth armed force. And it's not another private individual who is aggrieved - it's the government. They can afford to wait to avoid bloodshed. The amount of money he owes to the government, gets spent by that same government in less than one minute. It's not going to break the U.S. bank. That's Obama's job.

  2. rhaig

The laws say he owes $$$, the judge says he owes $$$, if he's not willing to pay, then they need to arrest him.

Okay, so wait until he drives into town to buy a gallon of milk, and catch him then. That would be less dangerous than surrounding his home with law officers and facing a horde of angry citizens.

Have we learned nothing since Waco and Ruby Ridge?

I just wonder if all this blood lust from the liberals here would still apply if it was instead a liberal home owner standing up against the government, rather than a conservative.

    >Here's another BLM land grab underway that will hurt ranchers:

Yep. We should ignore the law and let thugs take whatever they want.

Right, ranchers are "thugs" for wanting to keep the land they've always had. Keep up that demonization so that the eventual shootout by the feds will sound justified. Oh, and be sure to also call their home a "compound", their guns an "arsenal", and their supportive friends a "militia". Yeah, that's the ticket!

    *********
The guy is 67 years old. Just ignore his defiance, and he'll die off soon enough on his own. Then you can go get his cattle peacefully.

It's not very practical to apply legal responses based on the age of the person in question.

It's also not very reasonable to escalate to deadly force over cows and turtles.

Are they worth the deaths of citizens and law officers?

But they're not escalating to deadly force (has a shot been fired?), and they didn't do it over cows and turtles, they did it after 20 years of due process and over a million dollars in arrears. People get evicted from apartments by armed Sheriffs for much much less.

So how young should he be before we shouldn't ignore the problem and wait for him to die?

Just because shots haven't been fired yet doesn't mean they won't be. Did you make the same claim when federal troops were surrounding the Koresh community home?

There are large numbers of armed federal troops. There are large numbers of citizens protesting their presence. There are reports of armed militias heading that way. Sounds like a confrontation between armed groups to me, with a liklihood of gunfire.

Will the government back down? Of course not. Those pesky citizens have to be taught that absolute obedience is required. Even if it means killing them.

How about a non-violent way to end this standoff? How come nobody is talking about that possibility. All anyone wants to do is prove who has the biggest balls.

How about the government put a lien on the rancher's land, and then leave him alone. When he dies, the assets are sold, and the lien is satisfied. The government gets their money, and no one dies.

    Nah, that'll never work.

Bring on the tanks and tear gas!

And I'm sure THIS has nothing at all to do with it.... [:/]

Well, well, isn't that interesting. Follow the money. So maybe the cows and turtles are just an excuse to seize the land for huge profits. And of course, all that oil drilling activity won't hurt the turtles at all, like those evil cows who go around deliberately stomping them to death.

  7. rushmc

this whole thing is about a turtle that was put on the endangered list....

Hey, just had a brilliant idea: Let's put a bunch of those turtles on the border with Mexico, and then the Feds will rush all their law enforcement assets to the border region to protect the turtles by finally stopping the illegal immigration. Do it for the turtles!

According to one article he has two court orders telling him to remove his cattle. A word of advice: Do not disobey a court order.

Do you think that justifies confiscating all his cattle and surrounding his house with snipers?

Using a gun to take the guy down, in a crowded hallway full of panicked students, could well have produced more casualties than the knife-wielding attacker did.

NOT using a gun could allow the attacker to stab YOU to death, and then continue his stabbing spree undeterred, which could well have produced even more casualties.

They got lucky by tackling him, but the use of a gun in this situation, had one been available, would most definitely have been justified.

You people are pitiful, and have no reverence for tradition. If it's not a real pie, it's not a pie.

Well if it's got to be a real pie, make it a cream pie, like coconut or chocolate. Don't use something with a hard crust on top like cherry or apple. Besides, cherry and apple would be much better for eating.

******Remind me to create a go fund me page when I break the law. They knew the risks. I'll never understand the handout mentality these days.

So you don't think that the USPA should have an Airport Access Defense fund?

What does that have to do with breaking the law?

If there's a need for AAD funds, then some DZ is being shut down for some kind of legal reason - i.e. "breaking the law" in the eyes of some government entity.

Using normiss' logic: "The drop zones should have known they were breaking the law, they knew the risks, so don't expect USPA to come bail them out when they get in trouble."

So some county is trying to kick a DZ off an airport, claiming FAA safety violations - screw 'em, it's their personal problem?

Or maybe, just maybe, we should band together, pool our resources, and fight these encroachments on our sport when they are unjust!

  13. Seems like I've heard someone complain of a pieing leaving stains in their clothing that would not come out, but I can't remember what the substance was that did that.

I know the liquid inside a cyalume light stick will do that.

One of the people involved with the video has posted that he believes it to be a rock in the jumper's canopy:

    Quote

We think we can reconstruct what happened: A pebble, a few cm in size at most, was accidentally caught inside the parachute at the landing site after the previous jump. Then the parachute was packed on a clean floor and the pebble was not noticed. Then Anders made the jump with the stowaway. This is a wingsuit dive and he’s travelling fast northwards at an downward angle of approximately 40 degrees. When he releases the parachute, the wind catches it and it shoots out to the south of him. The parachute is held back by the cords, but the pebble is not. The pebble is now increasingly getting further south and further above Anders. However, the parachute then slows Anders down, he makes a 250 degree clockwise rotation and at this moment the pebble happens overtake him. It had now been falling for a few seconds and was no longer accelerating much.

Yep. And does the "meteroite" match the material of the natural rock on the ground in that area? I'll bet it does.

  16. We have a tradition in this sport of "pieing" jumpers who reach certain milestones in their careers. The first one is usually at 100 jumps, when they're tricked into stepping outside under false pretenses, whereupon a horde of other jumpers smack them in the face with pies.

My poll question today is: What's the best type of material to use for pieing?

I've seen problems with real pies when they came frozen and weren't thawed out sufficiently, causing a person to be hit in the face with pies that are still hard as a brick inside. Giving someone a bloody nose kind of takes all the fun out of it.

And then there's shaving cream, which seems to be substituted because the canned whipped cream requires refrigeration, which can be a problem in some places. The problem with shaving cream is that if it's accidentally ingested, I've seen it cause a scary medical reaction. And of course, it can't actually be eaten, which is part of the fun of watching the victim sample-taste the goo on his face.

So my material of choice is whipped cream. It's cheap, you spray it on a pie plate, it's soft, it's messy, and achieves all the desired fun effects, without any negative side effects. It even encourages the hilarity of other people licking it off of their face. And lastly, the dogs will even clean up the mess on the ground for you afterwards.

    What say you?

I thought you were quitting. ;)

    Boogers

I was "quitting", in an April 1st message. You didn't get the gist of that one either.

    chuckakers

Actually I did get it. I was just hoping you weren't kidding.:P

Is there some reason why you don't like me and wish me to quit the sport?

    Flotation Devices

A question was posed about the need for flotation devices on skydivers and FAA noted they are not required as the runway is located further than 100 feet from edge of a water body.   An analogy was made between a parachute and a glider/plane that flies over water as there is some ability to glide and avoid.

Is there any FAA rule requiring floatation for skydivers within 100 feet from water? I've never heard of anything like that. Couldn't find anything in Section 105.

Maybe they're referring to this section:
    http://www.flightsimaviation.com/data/FARS/part_121-340.html
But that is for aircraft, not skydivers.

Sounds more and more like someone looking for some nit-picky bureacratic excuse to cause a drop zone a lot of trouble.

  19. normiss

I've always thought it was simple envy.

    I don't understand it either.

Yes, there's certainly that. But several people I know are perfectly normal likeable folks, but when the subject of rich people comes up, they're like Jekyl and Hyde, with another personality that just wants to get rid of all rich people. It's weird, and frightening. The hatred I see in these otherwise normal people is inexplicable to me. One guy considers anyone who was born into money and doesn't have to work for a living as "worthless". Of course, this comes from a guy who has had to work hard and struggle all his life. But just because you're living off of daddy's fortune, doesn't make you worthless. It doesn't mean that all your money should be taken from you. Sheesh. I don't know how they get from "envy" to outright "hate"...

  20. riddler

Chasing money is what they're doing.

Well if they can't prove their illegal, then they can't take anything for resale. And likely it wouldn't be re-sold anyway if it is illegal, they'll be donated to museums, or repatriated to the Indian tribes. If the concern is for the cultural heritage, then an auction doesn't improve anything - it just transfers the artifacts to yet another private collector.

Seems heavy-handed to me to. Taking over a guys house, questioning everything he owns, and they don't even have an arrest warrant. Excuse me? You can't just go on fishing expeditions. You have to allege something illegal, get a search warrant, and then look only for that thing specified in the warrant. You don't get to just go through a guy's entire house and life, looking for something, anything, upon which to arrest him. This is wrong.

If I had a pond adequate to grow them.. I would do as my cousin does... grows bass and bluegills.

What do bass and bluegills eat? Bugs. So when you eat bass & bluegills, you're eating bugs. That doesn't sound so appetizing either. Yuck! If "you are what you eat", then bass & bluegills are bugs, and you're a bug too. You're an insectivore.
