I haven't been to the mountain in something like 6 years or so. When does the season start back up? I'm hoping to do a lot of skiing this year, but don't know anyone around here that skiis, and I don't know jack about the ski season or season pass pricing.

I'm hardly ever on there, but here I am: http://www.myspace.com/infinitefolly I have a little video on there including footage from my grad dive :)

You're correct, the lead ball will hit the ground first. Think of it like this: A balloon, and an equally sized/shaped/textured 50lb object are dropped at the same time. It's pretty obvious which one will fall faster. The whole "all objects fall at the same speed" thing ONLY applies to a vacuum when all conditions are perfect. Gravity applies the same force to all objects regardless of shape/size/texture/weight, but unless you ARE in a vacuum, you have to factor in all the other variables too :)

I've never heard of virtualization, it looks interesting! The server rack is definitely, partially for show though. Also, because our software records live video from up to 64 cameras per server, it's constantly using the HDD's, and other resources, so trying to run both server and client apps on the same machine isn't very efficient

Another good thing about life insurance policies is that they pay a percentage of your policy for loss of body parts. If I'd have had life insurance when I was in my car accident last year, I could have been paid HALF for losing my right eye

Hey, congrats on the baby

I started a new job at the beginning of this month. I'm a Support Engineer for Milestone Systems, an IP video surveillance software company based in Denmark. I am the luckiest employee on the planet Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but really, I don't know how I got this job. I'm 21 with a GED, never got the HS diploma, and I think I've got about 6 whole college credits. I've worked at a movie store, retail computer store, in manufacturing, and one 3 month project in IT 3 years ago or so. In February I got laid off a temp position with DeMarini Sports, manufacturing bats. I decided then and there that I wasn't taking another temp job, manufacturing position, and I wasn't going to work in retail again. I posted my resume on Craigslist.org weekly, and replied to at least 3-4 IT job ads daily. I was absolutely certain that I would find someone to hire me for my knowledge and potential instead of experience. After attending one interview after another for a few months I was beginning to lose hope. Between December and May I had 10-15 interviews, and none of them panned out. Most of them didn't bother contacting me at all. The rest told me they'd found someone better qualified for the position, and wished me luck. *flips employers off* When June came, my money was almost entirely gone, and my credit cards were maxed. I was beginning to lower my standards, and even considered going back to CompUSA as a cashier. Then one day I got an e-mail from a company I'd never heard of, Milestone Systems. Thomas says he'd like to schedule an interview with me on the following Wednesday, or have me attend a training/certification class on their software on the day before. I tell him I'll be there on Tuesday for the class. Tuesday comes, and I find myself in the first floor of the company presidents house (president of the US location anyway), which is also where the office is for the US. I'm sitting at a large faux marble board room style table with 6 or 7 other guys in suits for the 8 hour training class. After the class was over and all the parters/resellers in training had left, I had a little interview with Thomas. He actually told me he'd basically decided to hire me already based on my resume, and meeting me in person was the deciding factor. After he'd seen what kind of guy I was, he was satisfied that I'd fit in. I work with 3 people here. Thomas (technical manager), Susanne (hr), and Eric (president). We get maybe 5 or 6 big support calls on a typical day, and a varying amount of e-mails. I spend most of my time messing around with our software, and cameras and such. I have a couple big projects going on. One of them is building a portable server rack for demos and trade shows. So far I've loaded the rack with two 4u dual Xeon 2.8ghz servers, a 2u dual Xeon 3ghz, and 4 1u servers which will be clients for demo purposes. Another project is checking out some new software we're building, and learning how to install, configure and support it. Sometime in the next couple months I have to give a demonstration to some guys from GE. I had to write a program to integrate some video analytic software to ours so that we can receive alert messages from it. I'm also evaluating a couple Access Control systems which are integrated into our software. I absolutely love this job

Hah, I was lucky enough to get the nasty bruises across the chest and waist, AND the reconstructive facial surgery :) But you're right; seatbelts save lives, and I would certainly be dead had I not been wearing mine

Every year my best friends mom makes me an easter basket. She's done it since I moved here at age 10, and it doesn't stop at easter either. Halloween, and valentines day are always met with candy as well. This year I found a stow-away

10/10 - Math has always been my favorite subject. When I took my GED tests a few years ago, I scored 800/800 on the math portion :)

I'm not really sure what IT contractors we have out here, it's definately worth looking into though :)
-
I'm qualified for any entry-mid level IT position dealing with desktop support, help desk, computer hardware/software maintenance, and web programming involving HTML/CSS, PHP/MySQL etc. I've done contract work as a "Computer Specialist" replacing 300 computers and tackling everything that entails (data backup, OS upgrade, personal settings and folder migration etc). I do the occasional contract web design/consultation as well. I'm also qualified for everything else under the sun (customer service, retail, sales, warehouse, merchandising, manufacturing) but I'd rather not work another blue collar job. I hate retail (who doesn't?), and the repatition of manufacturing absolutely kills me. I want to find a job that presents new [mental] challenges every day, where I can grow as a person, and with the company

I've interviewed with a couple agencies out here, and interviewed for a job through them but so far everything has fallen through. Misscommunication of job duties and required skills/abilities etc. I interviewed for one job as a desktop support guy, and it turned out the position was actually for an electrician. What the hell? heh

I'm trying to get into an entry-level IT related position (helpdesk, desktop support, network engineering...whatever), the catch is I'm 21 and have no degree or certifications. I know what I'm doing, and can match my father who is the desktop support guru for a circuit board manufacturer out here, but it's hard to convince someone you don't know that you're up to the job without solid (paper) proof

So I've been unemployed for two months now. I pump out resumes 6 days a week on average, combing craigslist, portlandjobfinder, jobdango etc. I've had about 10 interviews since I started really looking in January, and nothing has materialized quite yet. I could really use some New Job Vibes, advice, or even possibly a connection? Arg.

Sorry about the confusion, and thank you for your answer :) That was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you so much for the help

That would require either x or h to be zero, and neither can be zero without causing a divide by zero error in the original expression. Right? Heh, I haven't done any substancial math work since pre-calculus in high school

Believe it or not, I'm doing this crap for fun. I'm trying to teach myself how to solve complex rational expressions. Can anyone tell me if this is simplified as much as possible? 1 - 1 x + h x -h = h hx^2 + xh^2

Can someone do me a HUGE favor, and send me a scanned copy of the Family Guy: Volume 3 - Disk One cover art? I borrowed the third volume from a guy at work tonight, and my dog got ahold of the dvd case. I'm swapping the case out with one of my volume two cases, but I need to print out a new piece of cover art for it

*looks at your task bar* So what are you trying to patent?

I do! I just got back from the court house. I had a trial today for my careless driving citation from my accident last month. I was all prepared with the evidence that the corner was dangerous and I wasn't driving carelessly at all. Well it turns out the cops wife had a baby and was on FMLA, he couldn't be there. The judge threw it out I love babies.

I totally agree! I used to talk on my cell phone, but for some time now especially after my accident last month I get REALLY nervous if I'm a passenger in a car where the driver is talking on a cell. It really freaks me out. If someone calls me while I'm driving, they get my voicemail. That's what it's for.

I looked at the pictures first without reading the post, I was thinking...wtf? Who cares about some stupid spinning pictures? What is this supposed to be Apparently I can't handle much stress at all
