  1. I went through almost the exact same situation. I had around 50 jumps then took a hiatus of 9 years. When I came back (with my logbook) my recurrency consisted of the last 3 levels of AFF which I completed over one weekend. Not having your logbook should not be too big of a deal assuming you did get your A license. If your jumps were at a major drop zone or a well organized small drop zone, they may keep a record of all your jumps completed there.
  2. I had loose rotator cuffs from prior dislocations racing motorcycles back in the day. On a jump from a DC-3 I was front float with a grip on the center float. Camera had rear float. On the count, myself and camera dropped, but center float didn't (he gave the count!) resulting in immediate dislocation of my right shoulder. With cameraman filming I first made sure I could pull my reserve, then spent 5000 feet popping my right shoulder back in. Got it in with 5000 feet to spare and landed uneventfully under my main. Had the surgery to fix my right shoulder and after physical therapy, I was able to return to the sport. No issues with the repaired shoulder. Stay with the therapy and continue with strength exercises afterward. Would not recommend any changes to your equipment unless you know for a fact that your surgery has incapacitated your shoulder to where you can not trust your ability to perform EPs. Lastly many wind tunnels will not allow people like us to use the wind tunnel.
  3. It is November after all. Seems people are a little different in that neck of the woods.
  4. You made my day. For side door aircraft on group loads, we use ready-set-go with leg swing. For tailgate aircraft, shake-down-up/go.
  5. About 25 years ago I was front float on a DC-3 with a high grip on the LO in the door, and Camera at the rear. LO gave the count, Camera and I dropped, LO didn't. Dislocated my right shoulder. So with Camera filming I managed to pop my shoulder back in by 9K and did a few practice pulls to make sure I could do it. Pulled at 3k for an uneventful canopy ride and landing. If the practice pulls did not go well I was ready to go to the reserve. Good times.
  6. At 1000 yards, I use the AR-50 sparingly. Hand loads using mil-surp brass and A-Max bullets, but still prohibitively expensive. Lately I have switched to using Armalite AR-10 Target with Black Hills match ammo. Mostly use that combo at 600 yds, but have also done 1000 yds with some success. Been meaning to load my own 308's, but haven't got around to it.
  7. Used to have grilled PB sandwiches as a kid. Haven't had one in too long. Gonna have to make some this weekend. Never had jelly with ours; ate them straight up accompanied by rippled potato chips. Delicious!
  8. No shit, there I wuz, thought I was gonna die. Around my 50th jump or so at 100ft on final, looked down and saw a piece of paper doing circles across the grass, followed by a canopy collapse. Started furiously pumping the brakes and the canopy re-inflated at about 50ft. Landed sideways hard and fast with a textbook PLF that allowed me to walk away from it. Everyone who saw it thought I was a goner.
  9. Not all felonies are created equal. Back in the day, felonies were serious violent crimes. Nowadays, after decades of "grade inflation" minor non-violent and even victimless crimes are classed as felonies. They shouldn't be, and they should not disqualify anyone from owning and carrying a firearm.
  10. Well no, most people don't. Failure to recognize this colors your world view. Those of us (the majority) who don't snap at the slightest provocation are able to trust our neighbors, and total strangers, not to snap as well. To us, being armed is nothing to fear, and makes us all safer.
  11. I have an A&P rating, but without access to the maintenance logs and the aircraft (apart from riding to altitude) I can not assess the airworthiness of the jump plane. I have faith that the professionals running the drop zone are following the regs. Just as I have faith that any commercial air carrier I fly on follows the regs and keeps their aircraft airworthy.
  12. Nothing goes to Elsinore. As already noted, Ontario airport is the closest, and you will need to rent a car to drive down to Elsinore. Another better option is to find a local jumper willing to pick you up and take you there. Consider posting more details of your plans, and filling out your profile for more responses. Good luck.
  13. WTH (pun intended) is with the Bible Thumper's fear of being caught? Caught by who? Morality is not determined by the law; the law is determined by morality, quite apart from religion.
  14. CRW 101 Talk to each other! Seems I only heard the upper (wrapped) jumper saying anything.
  15. I have had both my collar bones broken (different incidents) Right wrist broken. Left wrist broken/dislocated. Left ankle, bone chip and surgery. Two broken fingers. Right shoulder dislocated (surgery for rotator cuff) Several broken ribs. All the above were from motorcycle road racing. A very dangerous sport. On the plus side, they always had an ambulance at the track ready to go. I quit racing 20 years ago and took up skydiving. Skydiving has proven to be much safer.
