  1. I partially tore my rotator cuff in high school and never had it repaired, just went through PT to strengthen the remaining two cuff muscles I have. After a long day of jumping mine will sometimes be a little sore. This sport definitely puts strain on it. I'm 22 by the way.
  2. My humble skydiving experience and my even more humble opinion are as follows. Bones made a mistake, very obviously he put everyone on that jump at risk. I can comprehend the reasoning behind him trying to preserve a Texas held record (admittedly us Texans are a proud bunch). I would like to see the rules changed on local and regional records to include only people in the vicinity of the DZ, but that is another matter altogether. Personally I cannot state anything negative (or positive) about Mr. Bones, having never met the man. I will say that he did endanger his fellow skydivers on this particular jump, and in this community it has been made clear to me that being dangerous is one of the most avoided and negative characteristics of any skydiver. (There are old skydivers and bold skydivers, but not old, bold skydivers, is a saying for a reason). However, as a new skydiver, I would like to think that this family is understanding and mature enough to forgive anyone for any mistake. The amount to time required to forgive someone may vary, but the forgiveness shouldn't. Bones made a mistake and put others at risk, that is no question, but also there is no doubt in my mind that he is a talented skydiver and hopefully he can show this community that he is as safe as he is skilled following this lapse in judgement. Bones, get out there bite the bullet and admit your fault. Apologize to those who deserve an apology and start working to rebuild your image as a safe and skilled skydiver. Nothing will be had by dwelling on the past, lets acknowledge our mistakes, learn from our shortcomings and move on as a family and as a community.
  3. I was discussing this video with some guys at my DZ the other day. Our conclusion is that in this situation (finding a chest strap undone) I would grab on to the right side chest harness with my left hand, pitch and then as quicky as possible grab the left side harness with right hand. Essentially locking yourself in the harness. Then under canopy reaffix chest strap and get down safely.
  4. The issue I have with the affordable care act is that it was passed in congress and signed into law as health care reform and then was presented to the supreme court as a taxation reform. Everyone knows the fed can tax the public, that makes for an easy decision for the court.
  5. I have a Sako 85 in 300 WSM and it is by far my favorite bolt action rifle I have encountered thus far. So I would say the Tikka. They are essentially the same gun, Sakos are just overpriced. The hammer release/trigger pull is my favorite part. Very crisp and the length of pull is very small. BTW the 300 WSM is a cannon I would stick with a .308. Happy Hunting!

  7. I also suffer from motion sickness, quite terribly I might add. One thing that has completely cured me of any motion sickness is ginger root capsules. You can get them at almost any health store, or CVS/Walgreens and I have not been motion sickness once after taking a few capsules. Make sure to wait 30 min- 1 hr after taking the capsules before doing anything that would cause motion sickness to make sure they kick in. Oh and congrats on the tandem!
  8. Just an update. I graduated AFF 8-19-13 and have continued jumping. I am up to 36 jumps as of last week. So far I have taken part in a few 2 ways, and some larger formation tracking dives (tracking seemed to come naturally to me) with some very experienced jumpers at SSM. My last jump was a 5 way tracking dive that went excellent and all of us in formation were as close as 3-5 feet from each other for the majority of the flight. Also have been downsizing my canopies, started at a 230 (.8 WL) and now am at a 170 (1.1 WL). I think I will stay at this canopy size for a while to work on canopy control and maneuvers. So far it has been awesome and I am am hoping it will continue to be. I am just now starting to look for gear so I can get away from rental gear.
  9. +1 on the voodoo not being large enough. The biggest the Voodoo will hold as a main is a 190.
  10. Hey guys and gals. Thought I would drop a line and introduce myself. I'm Sam, I am from San Marcos Tx, where I am a student at Texas State, I also dabble in real estate on the side. Skydive San Marcos is home for me. I love the people and the encouraging atmosphere out there. I am new to the sport, and just recieved my A license a few weeks ago. Trying to further my knowledge about skydiving not only by being at the dz as much as possible but by lurking and listening as much as possible.
