  1. hi people, I will be looking at buying a rig on the next 2 or so months. I have discussed this with my instructors and they say that I would be fine on a 150 foot canopy. Now everything I have read would indicate that this is too small. My instructors say that it will be mre responsive and handle better. Given my age and the way I fly my canopy now they say I will have no prblems with it. So my question is... If I go from student 270, to 20 (or so) jumps on a 235, and some more on a borrowed 170, would it be uncommon for someone to go down to 150 within 50 jumps. Also what is the real difference in canopy speed and manouverability when down sizing. I'm about 188lbs exit weight. which gives a 1.25 wing load??? AFF 8

Hi peoples, I did aa solo consolidation jump from 14000' then AFF8 today, 2x 360 turns, fast fall, slow fall, backflip, 80 degree turn and track of with direction change. I styarted my track after all the above at 6000', but I am still having trouble with me legs in freeefall. Are there any exercises i can do to get my legs in the right position for a box position?? I think i have them bent up enough and when i view the video, they're still out way to far? Any Tips??? containers

The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering getting a new or near new container and putting about a190 in it, but I would then like to be able to down size my canopy after awhile but keep the container the same. So ideally I'd like a container that will take a 190, 170, 150, and maybe even a 135 (in about 10 years ) You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! 5. OK here in Perth, there are 9 stages to AFF if after stage 6 your DZSO thinks your capable enough, you can do solo jumps to consolidate your skills lerned thus far. I have completed AFF stage 7 but done 9 jumps, this weekend I'm doing another 2 jumps to try and get my tracking and back flips a little better. in about 3 weeks I'll do AFF8, then 2 weeks later AFF9, which is a HOP & POP I am so looking forward to 6 weeks time when I get 6 weeks off work to jump

    containers

Hi guys, I will be looking at buying my pre 2nd rig in about 6 weeks. My question is what size canopies do the containers take. i.e. is there a set size spread for each container. e.g. Different Atoms will take 190 - 150, 150 - 120, or is there not set sizing??? 7. My wife, bought me my AFF1 for my birthday this year. (love that girl). We have been together for 14.5 years and she knew I alsways wanted to try AFF, but never had spare cash, bills suck they always turn up when I get a small win fall. Anyways since AFF 1 I have been doing more jumps, she see how it make me feel and comes to the DZ to vicariously participate (loves watching the swoopers) She will probably never jump herself but understands that it's somthing I get a rush out of. Now the cost is almost prohibative, but as a compromise, I am selling one of my motorbikes to fund it. I love my bike too, but I can't ride 2 at the same time so reason wins out. I just took on a second job aswell, teaching body attack aerobics, I get enough money from teaching one class to pay for one jump ticket, so the more i work the more I can jump. If the extra effort from me was't there my woife would be far less understanding from a financial point of view. 8. I'd also like to know when the hook knife is used, so far all i have heard is that it's for the reserve, my way of thinking is "if you cut the lines on your reserve, start flapping those arms and think like a bird. aff 7

No Airhead there is no redo. The oject of the dive was to purposely go unstable and then recover. Then track off in a given direction, stay on track and flare wave and pull. Although, I got unstable 3 times, I revocered each time and kept good height awareness. When I turned off to track i was holding a heading and covered distance. Al of these fullfiled the requirements for the jump. Untidy though they maybe. So a win is a win :o) I'm going to put in a couple of consolidation jumps b4 I compltete AFF 8 & 9. I want to get a little better b4 moving to the next level. Also the cionsolidation jumps are cheaper You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

    aff 7

I did AFF 7 today. fwd dive, seemed to rotate 180 b4 i should have, and log rolled in process. Stabilised and began back loop, kicked leg and ended up doing 2 backloops, got stable AGAIN turned 180 and tried to track. Apparently it was the best DELTA the instructor had seen in a while. So what the secret to tracking and any ideas how i can keep control of my legs??? You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! 11. Janelin has an advertising poster (we have one at our DZ) it has a guy in a white jumpsuit doing the same thing, if you look closely at it you can see he outline of a webbing strap (or flat cable) running anlong his arm and attached to the container.. Regardless of the attachemnts,, it's an awsome picture and that guy has some BIG testicles. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! 12. Retinal detachment is much more previlant in Bungee Jumping, it is caused by the increased intraoccular presaure exserted when you go head down and then get dragged back up by your feet. All of the presure ibn your body is force towards your cranium and the internal presure in your eye is much higher, this can cause youre retina to come away from the internal wall of your eye. Not a good thing, thats why I don't jump off of little 600 foot towers, 14000 feet is safer You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! 13. Problem is i think he wants a bag that can go onboard an airplane with (not a jump plane) as cabin luggage I think You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

  15. what if any is the difference in a 9 cell and 7 cell canpoy of the same area? Also can you still get 9 cell canpoies. All the none student rigs on our DZ are 7 cells You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
  16. Thanks Chief, I'm a strong believer in life long learning, Iwent to University in my 30's and now teach "the unteachable kids" at the school where I work. The fact that I started skydiving at 39 ("but your an old man sir") blows them away . They also thinks it's pretty ORSE (awesome in lay speak). I agree, it's WICKED You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?
  17. Today I did 2 jumps both were out of a navajo ADI, and both were from 14000'. I had previously done up to AFF 6, and was told that I could try a couple of solos, to consolidate my skills. Well today I did just that, Never jumped completely solo before, and had never stepped foot into a Navajo. (wheel and wing strut exits from a Cassna were my previous experience). I informed my instructors that i have never done an exit like this before, they said, your sensible, you'll be fine. So I did it and they were correct. Man what a rush, launching out at 14000 with 60ish second freefall, I did all manouvres several time and still had 6000'. Canopy control was good on jump one, but landed off the DZ by about 20 yards. The second jump, I nailed it within 3 yards of the centre. HOw wrapped am i . TOP day excellent weather light breeze and a crimson sunset on the ride home. MY LIFE ROCKS How's yours? 19. Well speaking as someone who initially wasonly going to do 1 jump, I think it very much depends on your motivation to exit a plane at altitude. Mine was to get the biggest adreniline buzz possible
  20. Ok guys, What is terminal and sub-terminal, I take it to mean terminal velocity. If this the case, I am suposed to do a sub-terminal opening on a forthcoming jump. How do you know when you reach terminal velocity? Will it be the same for all falling bodies, regardless of size shape andor weight??
